@Consolitis this game is at least 10 times better than HL2, so screw metacritic!
You are wrong, but it's ok.
fake edit: to clarify where you are wrong is that HL2 is bad or average or whatever, as for which one of the two is better I still haven't decided myself. HL1 still is the best though.

Ouch, I think you are looking for troubles with the Valve fanboys.
A Valve fanboy by default has to love Portal 2 too, and since it barely released, the euphoria (unintended pun) multiplies the effect of sexual arousal to anything valve related (P2 in this case) - thus I can get away with the comments, as people will agree with it, even if on short term.
I actually never found HL2 this refreshing, it's true. Sure, physics manipulation was all the rave, but it was a natural evolution coming to games anyway - P2 however has really innovative gameplay, sarcastic characters, and a great presentations ... AND better atmosphere than HL2 ever had.

How would you rate HL2, if you played it side by side today with P2?

Both are 9-10/10 games but I can't say which one I prefer, especially since I haven't finished Portal 2 SP yet and haven't played the co-op campaign at all!

Son, I am disappoint: I ground you to your room, you may NOT under any circumstances come out, until you have finished at least portal 2's SP campaign. THRICE! ... No, son, I don't care if you're starving to death!

If I play continuously for more than a couple of hours I feel that my laptop will explode

The best part, is when Wheatley tries to emulate the sarcastic insults of glados, but fails. That part was hilarious.
All in all, I think writing in this game is among the best ever in a game. These characters had better dialogue, than any recent BioWare game character, and BioWare is considered the best.

Back in 2008, when production on Portal 2 first began, developer Valve was creating a game without portals. Portal 2 was originally a prequel, set in the 1950s, utilizing a brand new gameplay mechanic that excited people at Valve.
The concept, codenamed F-Stop internally, lasted five months until it was canned. While Valve loved it, the testers hated it. They wanted portals in their Portal 2. They wanted Chell and GlaDOS, the pair of characters that made up the entire cast of the first game.
Unfortunately, the exciting new gameplay mechanic that never made it out of Valve is still being kept secret behind studio doors. Valve boss Gabe Newell has chosen not to disclose it. Perhaps they’ll use it for a future game in the franchise.
To be used in Ep3

I just finished the SP campaign and I believe that in 20 years Portal 2 will be regarded the same way "The Secret of Monkey Island" is regarded now.
Whatever game I play next will have a hard time to impress me since Valve has raised the bar with this one.
Thats probably for the "Thank you Valve" community video.
Quote:
10:30: Thank Valve and the indie devs for the amazing ARG they did for us! Let's create a big "Thank You" video for them. If you want to appear in this video (which will be on the "Thank You" page we are making) send your video (16:9, 200MB max, 1min max) to <no more email here> and with a little luck you will appear in the final video that Valve and the indie devs will watch. But please: No more ingame videos. It would be nice seeing your face and hear you say "Thank you, Valve!" (you're free to do it in your native language). Don't be shy! Deadline is done
