Quote:
The game is over 40% longer with almost zero backtracking, new professional voice work has been recorded, the ending has been reworked to be more engaging and dramatic and the hydro kinetic powers which were previously only seen in the unlockable challenge room have been opened up in play. This is all in service to the thousands of fans who took time to offer feedback to the developers.

I've only ever seen one other company listen to the feedback of their fans and actually go all out like this; CD Projekt Red. The Witcher Enhanced Edition. Larian also did something similar with Divinity 2, releasing an absolutely gigantic update patch that fixed/added/changed a lot of stuff, but not to the level of CPR and Dark Energy Digital.

Yes, definitely. I've got the older 360 version (pre-Prophecy enhancements) and it's a great game.

It follows one of the US time zones I think, normally the release date (When not bound by US = Tuesdays / EU = Fridays/Thursdays regular delay.) is around 18.00 to 20.00 here in Sweden, depends on the publisher but it's rare to see anything earlier than that aside from the Steam://install based command.
(US time zone as with a six to eight hour delay the release coincides with some of the coastal noon US time zones I think it was, should look it up better.)

Change the content server, it worked here but the Swedish one isn't all that crowded I imagine, surprised we even have one of our own. Razz
(Had to use the NY location to get Section 8 Part 2 to even install, have to use a proxy in a few hours to decrypt Brink, Steam is "complicated" at times, hah.)

EDIT: Also try to restart the Steam client to fully update the info to that .blob file, have to do it frequently for it to register the titles as released but perhaps it's some side effect of this current beta build.

What happened to this: http://www.incgamers.com/News/22274/hydrophobia-release-and-platforms-clarified

Quote:
"Hydrophobia is of a production quality that only the best at retail can match and yes it is of a comparable gameplay length to an AAA retail game," he said.

Jones explained that the game was always going to be a full release, but the dev team had no idea that the final product, using the proprietary engine (Infinite Worlds), would allow them to create a game that's file size was tiny. Jones explains that this was a side effect of the technology used in the engine.

"We produced the engine principally because it conveys a massive productivity benefit - basically it allows a small team like ourselves to produce a big budget game.

"But it had a spin off effect of producing a game to an impossibly small file size. Impossibly small meaning under 1GB.

"My bizarre analogy for this is Viagra. It was developed as a heart drug but had an interesting side effect."

Jones explained that delivering the game digitally would make more sense, especially using an engine like the Infinite Worlds engine which allows you to create such small file sizes.

"Size matters. Not sure that the industry has quite grasped this one yet. All of a sudden everyone talks about downloading games. But this bright digital future has a big elephant sitting in their virtual room. Until developers produce games with IW or its equivalent it will remain a dream."

I mean if the larger size is worth it (higher quality assets, etc), I'm cool with this, I just hope it's not like Turok, or Star Wars: TFU, where the size of the PC version exploded for no good reason.

I guess they're talking about the original 360 release mate. That was under 1GB if memory serves... but then they bought out an almost-1GB patch in the form of Pure ... and NOW an even larger game, some 40 odd percent larger than Pure, in the form of Prophecy.

Bought. The devs deserves support for listening + good price.. i love water themed games, they're very rare..

900kb/s from a US server :/ actually never had a problem with downloading from Steam before, i usually have the games within 15-20 minutes.

Indeed that's what they' are talking about, but unless they have used much higher quality assets for the PC version, no matter how extensive changes they made I can't believe the size ended up being 4GB's larger!

So I hope it will have nice textures Very Happy

But it's sort-of fully rewritten, new story, new levels, redesigned old levels and new art and assets altogether isn't it?
(That earlier preview with the massive changelog the developers had done to Hydrophobia since the release of it on XBL and then the patch/addon for that version leading to this.)

New story? Now that has me confused Scratch Head

I started playing it on 360, but haven't gotten far at all, but then i heard of this so i stopped. But now it sounds like a completely new game.. So the games are in fact completely different now?

The game has received further enhancements and it's now titled "Hydrophobia Prophecy".

It will be released on Steam on May 9th for $10, and on PSN shortly later. The PSN version will support Move and MLAA.

They have done extensive changes to the game since their last big update, for example 70% of the levels are completely new, and the rest have been reworked. This means the game's length has been extended. There are better graphics, sound design, remastered voice acting/new voice actors, new combat gameplay, tweaked script, new ending, etc.

The plot isn't supposed to be completely different, but the levels are mostly going to be new.

Beginning quotes summarizes it pretty well, though I was a bit off in my description earlier. Smile

"It's Hydrophobia 1.5, really," managing director Deborah Jones told Eurogamer.

"It's also not the original and it's also not Pure."

"The game is now hugely longer," DED boss Pete Jones added. "We've honed, refined and developed the stuff people liked, and we've added a bunch of new stuff that's gone down really well in usability tests."

EDIT: Launcher or rather the language choice presented made me laugh a bit at the last one which I assume is font or language/region localization dependent (OS) guess it's supposed to say "Chinese (Traditional)"

EDIT: Menu itself with other choices.

(Normal AA would have been nice but this will have to do.)

Performance is a bit spotty (Max settings, naturally, it's a bloody console port I'll have you know ) and the visuals don't seem all that improved over the 360 version. There's this.... haze... over the screen, like vaseline smear but not as bad. I dunno, it's hard to explain but the visuals are definitely not vibrant and clear --- oh and for the love of god; ENABLE VSYNC. I've not seen this much tearing in a game since RE5 hit the 360 Laughing

Gameplay is still as fun as it was on the 360, but I was expecting more from the visuals - as consolitis said; it's 5.5x the size of the 360 version but doesn't seem to be any noticeable improvement. Probably just me remembering incorrectly Laughing
