From gameslice.com:
UPDATE, SUNDAY AT NOON PT: An individual who claims to be tied to FindMakarov has emailed me what is purportedly a still frame from the “FindMakarov” production. Call of Duty fans will instantly recognize the character as Simon “Ghost” Riley from Task Force 141 in Modern Warfare 2. Based on this image it seems that FindMakarov is a live-action short film inspired by MW2.

Modern Warfare 3: New engine 'would be counter productive' - Infinity Ward

Quote:
Infinity Ward creative strategist Robert Bowling has said that building a new engine for the Call of Duty franchise "would be counter productive".

When it was put to him on Twitter that "someone just needs to spend the $ and construct a new engine for the CoD franchise... Ground up," Bowling replied: "That would be counter productive. An engine takes years and years to develop and get right."

His comments were made at the same time the internet started going Battlefield 3 crazy over the COD rival's first gameplay trailer, which showed off DICE's impressive Frostbite 2 engine, described by EA as "incredible technology that takes animation, destruction, lighting, scale and audio to new heights".

All of the Call of Duty games since 2005's CoD2 have run on the Infinity Ward engine, which has been modified for each iteration of the series, and it sounds like it's going to be no different whent the next CoD title releases.

Bowling was also asked over the last day whether he still works for Activision, and if he's going to join his former bosses at new studio Respawn.

He replied: "I work at Infinity Ward and plan to remain here. We've got a great team and working on a great project."

Infinity Ward is rumoured to be co-developing a new Modern Warfare game for release this year with fellow Activision studios Sledgehammer Games and Raven Software.

Last month, the UK Official PlayStation Magazine lent credence to speculation that Modern Warfare 3 will be a prequel starring fan favourite character Ghost.

There is no reason to build a new engine.

1) Their audience doesn't demand it. It won't sell more copies with a newer engine.
2) For 60 fps gameplay their visuals are already good enough. Really how much could they improve them while maintaining the 60 fps framerate?
3) There's no time! IW has to make a new CoD every 2 years!
4) Most of the people responsible for coding the current engine have left the company, I believe? To make a new engine it's possible that people who never worked on CoD, would need to start working on a new one from 0, and this could lead to an engine that doesn't capture the "feel" of the old one, which could potentially alienate those that buy a new CoD/year and have been used to it.

+1

The only way you can get a company like that to start improving their stuff is to not buy it anymore.

No, it's a fan-made project. It's nothing officially to do with CoD or Cacktivision.

and with 41544 zillion working on COD games, IW can't change engines or the derps will be confused when playing a cod from another studio

..you can never really top being able to call down a nuke.

I don't think mw2 and BO are bad games at all, black ops just ran like shit on the pc though and Treyarch didn't respond. The main reason why cod8 is not high on my anticipation list.
Have followed this series from the start and more often then not have not been disappointed with the ip.

However, now that IW (err.. the originators of the ip) no longer exists the franchise has lost a lot of it's appeal.

What Respawn come with next is of far greater interest to me, then how Activision are now beating on a dead(?) horse.

Yep.

Even if BF3 delivers only half what's promised it'll be miles better than anything Infinity Derps have to offer.

I'll still pirate the shit out of this though. Cool Face

Ghost's voice actor implies that he has recorded lines for his character again.
So CoD 8 is likely going to be the Ghost prequel that was rumored.

I did Ghost in Modern Warfare 2 which has become one of the most iconic figures in the history of computer games. lol wut
