I'm desperately clinging to the faint hope that we'll actually get a proper Syndicate title. Isometric, team-based, real-time strategy .....

I'll bet it'll be 3D TPS, one-man army, real-time mindless shooter. So at least it'll meet 25% of your expectations.

Really? I played Enclave recently and it was extremely frustrating and unbalanced. I actually decided to give up and forget it a few times but in the end I completed it anyway. It was a chore, though. I would rate it **/*****

Quote:
And down the line? Well, this is how Wester’s mind works: He loved the ruthless isometric tactical classic Syndicate back in the day. He also works in Sweden and is therefore privy to the fact that a neighboring studio is making a new Syndicate for EA and that the game is “more of a like a GTA wannabe than it’s like the original game.” Therefore, he wants Paradox to make its own riff on Syndicate. They don’t have a game design in mind yet, but that’s the dream.

What a surprise.

Hopefully Paradox goes through with that..

ruin ?
Fallout 3 and Fallout Vegas turned out ok to me
the thing is IT HAS TO SELL on consoles to be a franchisee now
PC is now a third world country for AAA titles , only indies and Steam care about PC

Why even use the old IP then? Average console player has never heard of Syndicate, and you just piss off the old fans in the process.

Was thinking the same. Maybe the IP still carries some weight to stir up some hype?

Seems that nowadays any good news come with bad news.

The reason why such franchises are brought up, is because some megalomaniac developer/publisher suit (read derps) decide they want to revisit some game they played long ago and vaguely remember, and want to modernize them to consoles. Wink

I'm 100% speculating here, but if I had to guess, most of those suits haven't ever been gamers and couldn't care less about the actual gameplay. It's just business and number games to them.

I mean, would it be so wrong to revive these old IP's with smaller budgets? Have a small dev. team that could concentrate on creating a faithful sequel to the original. It wouldn't need to have ZOMGAMAZING graphics or a huge marketing campaign (or whatever it is that eats most of the budgets these days) - when you spend less you also need to sell less to turn a profit. Not every game should need to aim to be an AAA title with GTA/CoD types of sales numbers.

Take RPG's, for example. This trend of fully spoken dialogue is not only expensive but it also limits the writers immensely. Text dialogue would be a small price to pay for branching dialogue and social skills that actually mattered and would be worth putting points into. Fuck dialogue wheels with only black and white options.

When was the last time EA released a "smaller budgets" "wouldn't need to have ZOMGAMAZING graphics or a huge marketing campaign" game? Everything has to be a milkable franchise to cashwh0re people with DLC. Rolling Eyes

Using an old IP name is smart. It's old enough so that new gamers won't have any comparison material since they didn't play the previous title, but it's not old enough to dicard the vague memories of ye olde games. No matter how many people bitch, I think a shitload of old fans will buy it just because it's Syndicate. Throw in a few vague references, use some old gameplay mechanics and you'll sell to both groups (new and old gamers).

Coooooooooool!!!!
I hope it will have a cover system, since you cant fully experience a Syndicate game without a cover system and health regeneration.

In addition, since its an x360 title (exclusive?) they should hire the noble laureate in literature guy, you know... the guy who wrote the dialog for gears of war. The agents in the game would have a cool catch phrase each time you kill someone, like:
"Your ass has just been.................. PERSUADED".

On a more serious note, I think its a bit early to lose all hope for the title... who knows we may be pleasantly surprised (although I am quite sure it will be radically different from the game we knew at least in camera view perspective).

Meh, I guess I'd be content with a 'GTA wannabe' since I'm such a sucker for the dystopian cyberpunk setting in general - just use an engine like Red Faction: Guerrilla so I can blow up whole cityblocks with nuclear 'nades (tho even THAT is asking too much these days, I suppose).
