Hi Everyone,

Well, today is much better. We got a very kind email from GamersGate stating that they would support us going exclusive with Impulse until the new GOO contract is settled. We can't thank them enough for their understanding. I didn't expect such kindness from a big company.

Impulse has also offered to do some front page marketing of our product due to the exclusivity, so this may be a great PR opportunity as well. So things actually worked out quite well, and we are back on track. Impulse has also been really helpful in this matter, even taking the GOO contract issues to the highest levels in Gamestop, so kudos to them as well.

I have emailed GamersGate thanking them and updated Impulse with the good news, so hopefully SPAZ will be ready very soon.

Once we have a release candidate we will power our way thru the game testing so you all can have SPAZ in the shortest time possible.

What a great morning! Very Happy

I won't be buying though. I'll wait for a non-Impulse alternative.

Same. As much as I want this game, I won't support Gamestop in any way, shape or form.

Seeing as a percentage of my money, should I buy it, would end up at gamestop even if I bought it at gamersgate due to the gamestop owned goo.
And how this 'exclusive' is shaping up, even if it's "just for a while" I can't support a company that so quickly goes back on it's promises even if the game is good.
They said they'd release on all possible digital venues, bmt micro, gamersgate, impulse and possibly a few others; greenmangaming?.

Supporting this model would only make it normal after a while, same as happened with DLC's, and before we knew it we'd have even more DRM in digital distribution vendors and shady deals of exlusivity and adware.
So I won't, shame really.

I'm still willing to buy simply because the DRM isn't intrusive, it's a simple key-check. I'm aware that they're using Goo, but they've been saying that since the start, even when shipping the game via other distributors.

As I said, it's not the primary issue, I was willing to let that go.

Oh don't get me wrong, I know exactly what you mean ... the fact that they're using Goo means at least a portion of their proceeds will go towards the owners of Goo. That used to be Impulse, which I was all for, but now it appears the owners are Gamestop. I won't directly support Gamestop by purchasing the game from Impulse, but on the same note - I'd rather not deprive myself of a game I've been looking forward to more than DE3/LA Noire combined, just because of ownership of the DRM system in question.

If it means my getting the game, I'd rather give Impulse/Gamestop 2% than 30% by purchasing it from an opposing vendor, since there's no other option available. I guess it's just making the best of a bad situation because I outright refuse to pirate it Sad I despise Sony and refuse to support them financially, but I do still buy games that use SecuROM technology ---- as long as it's only for date/key checking.

Hi All,

Well the title says it all. Everything seems to be a go and you'll be able to get SPAZ on Impulse on Monday May 9 2011. Once the GOO contracts are signed, we will also be contacting other distributors and getting our own distribution option (BMT Micro) underway. Again, thanks to GamersGate for being so understanding.

Once we release, we will also be putting the PR machine into overdrive. Until now, we have backed off of PR until people can buy what we are selling. Once SPAZ is available, anything you all can to do spread the word would be excellent. Hopefully we will also be able to come up with some fun PR event ideas as a community as well.

I think Impulse keeps time at GMT-4

Yes, it is finally happening!

Then there's the legal wrangle for getting Goo onto BMT Micro and all the other distributors, but it's a legal contract that needs to be drawn up and I have serious doubts that's going to be any time soon ... especially not now the devs have signed an exclusivity agreement with Impulse/Gamestop.

Sad. Oh well, I'll probably pick it up if/when it hits GamersGate - but I'm not holding my breath any longer.

What happened to their whole stance on "When it DOES become available, we want it available everywhere" stuff? Guess they don't care about that anymore.

Oh well, will pirate, guess I'll buy it if it hits Gamersgate.

Update from Facebook.

We will be releasing on GamersGate and BTM Micro hopefully a couple weeks after Impulse. There is some minor legal stuff that has to be resolved before we can distribute in multiple places.

Impulse updated (Doesn't happen very often.) last week, has that new logo in the splash screen start-up window now.

I don't find the client itself bad actually but I own very few titles on it aside from Stardock published ones and the ArmA 2 DLC that appeared after Sprocket's purchases but it's a bit crude in some regards, scans the HDD/install folder during patch procedure and the files therein and then redownloads any altered/mismatched references, takes up a bit of time and as said it causes a bit of HDD activity but the usual patches are normally pretty small, though for Elemental the logo video keeps re-downloading as I replace it with a blank to skip that as with most games. Very Happy
(Understandable why Steam uses the NCF file for reference for this though separate install exe files are also a possible solution like with LIVE.)

I own a few Impulse titles too, but this was prior to their acquisition by Gameshit ... so they'll be the last games I buy on there.

~edit~

Store page now online, no buy link yet, still not buying it anyhow.

~edit~

Purchase just went live. Hopefully there's a "release" soon, or at least a demo, which I can play until GamersGate gets their copy.

MAY 9th 2011

Beta has arrived:
Hi everyone, we are please to announce that you can finally pre-purchase SPAZ and get access to the Beta. Impulse is currently exclusively hosting the Beta, and soon we will also be distributing on GamersGate, BMT Micro and other digital distribution platforms. Please join our forums and provide input. We would love to hear your ideas, and may even incorporate them into upcoming patches

SPAZ Demo:
We have a new demo available! Please give it a try if you are on the fence or want to know more about SPAZ. The demo contains about 90 minutes of gameplay and serves as a tutorial and introduction to the SPAZ universe. Each time you play the demo, the Galaxy will create itself anew, just like the full SPAZ experience.

Beta Trailer:
We have a Beta launch trailer available describing SPAZ’s core systems and gameplay mechanics. Give it a look and pass it around to your friends. The game with the silly name actually has quite a bit of depth.

Surprise Narrator:
This is a poorly kept secret on the forums, but TotalBiscuit (http://www.cynicalbrit.com/) is our narrator! He offered, we happily accepted, and we are just shocked with our good fortune.

Thanks for waiting:
A special thanks to the community on the forums. Your positive comments, ideas and energy have really helped in the time leading up to this Beta release. It has been a long 22 months, but your energy has inspired us reach the finish line. We hope you enjoy SPAZ and continue to touch base here regularly for future updates.

Why are people hyped?? it is a 2d space shooter sandbox game, I think the average gamer will spend 3 hours with this, don't expext anything else then the core game (shooting ships, repetitive missions, upgrades) from 2 guys programming a game for a year.
(and no this will not be like minecraft)

Bought the game on Impulse. GameStop did nothing bad to me and two indie devs need money ASAP. I have never even heard about GameStop before all this boycott thing started.

Enjoying the game so far Smile

You won't have heard of them mate, you're in Rassia Very Happy I envy you.. but Gamestop are a goddamned cancer eating away at the industry. It's killing me to wait, but I know I will feel better by doing so - by not supporting them. I love the devs, they're a great pair who made a stunning game, I'm sure they can wait a "few weeks" (so they say) for my money.
