I had the exact same issue as you. I played CoH vanilla with patch v2.300 (battery crack on GCW) and CoH: OF with v2.301 (since I had to update, I finished it just before v2.400 came out), and CoH vanilla wasn't accesible (couldn't see medals, savegames - probably because I updated, so savegames became invalid).

So, install vanilla, update to v2.300, play campaign and then install CoH: OF.

Took 3 hours to install and patch up while I was semi-afk. And you have to do that every OS-install.

Fucking hate it.

No you don't have to do this on every OS install. If you have steam and the games on a different harddrive than your OS then all you do is leave the steam folder with app inside intact and reinstall steam after you have reinstalled your OS.

Steam will auto detect the games.

I reinstall frequesntly and I have steam on a different drive than my OS and thats what I do.
If you had read a little on how steam works you would know this!

So in short:

Leave steam and games as they are on a different drive and reinstall you OS.
Reinstall steam on same drive as it was on before and it will auto detect the old steam and all games will be there when you login to steam as they were before you reinstalled your OS.

How very handy! Too bad I got a 2006 retail copy that doesn't use steam at all Wink.

It's already installed on a different drive then my OS, as with any game. Works fine after a format, just won't be reckognised if you want to patch up to the new version, and seeing there have been quite a few patches, you can understand it gets pretty fucking tedious.

Ah ok, sorry. Assumed you had it on steam cause you said you spend 3 hours patching it up, and alot of steam users were complaining that the patch download yesterday were extremely slow like several hours of downloading. Although I didn't experience this myself

I'd rather recommend 1.7.1. It doesn't have any DRM at all (Relic fucked up introducing SecuROM for 2.x). Just don't connect to Relic Online and you're golden.

Oh, and I don't think it does any difference at all for the SP campaigns.

Nope. It works very well for me (v2.500).

By the way, is it possible to play LAN (or multiplayer in general) with this version ? I'm using mini-image (last dt + yasu).

Well I wanted to ask a question and then I saw gingerninja's unanswered so I answered it.
I'll go and see in the thread you mention but I just have Opposing Fronts.

@ emppapy
Tales of Valor has all 3 games. You activate them and then you only need the OF mini image to play any of them. You have to firewall relicdownloader.exe though, or edit your hosts file.

And LANplay is possible of course, great fun !!!

I re tryed this game having forgotten about it as it was on my backup hdd on my pc when i was on win xp.
Anyway retried it, wat a fecking game this still is lol.
And one thing in this game that should be in 'all' multi player games is the in game chat feature.
Keeps the online part ticking on nicely.
Any news on a coh 2 btw?
