Me too! I still consider it somehow the best from the franchise. It's a shame that it was the first really. Because it was a new IP, the mechanics were completely new and all that it was a very raw game, it needed a lot more polish and more content.

I agree. Also the story was definitely the best of the series. The combat too, though I love the combat in Brotherhood.

AC1 was fucking merciless in its approach to the combat and detection. In AC1 if you managed to get the guards attention they would not stop hunting you. EVER. There was no circle of interest that you had to evade. Unless you found a haystack or tent those fuckers would find you and they would crowd you until you were forced to fight to the death.

And the combat was tough. Yes it didn't have the polish and versatility of AC2 and Brotherhood, but it was super satisfying. When you successfully managed to parry and attack one after another it felt immensely satisfying. Those last levels where you had to fight upwards of twenty soldiers AND Robert de Sable at once where amazing in the reward you felt.

AC2 and Brotherhood ruins all this by giving you too many energy bars and so many medicine potions that you never need fear dying in a combat situation. What more with powers like the smoke bomb any difficulty is ruined because you can just drop a bomb and shank everyone around you or run away.

Similarly in AC2 and Brotherhood, the guards will just stand, allowing you to walk right up to them and stab two people at one in the necks with no resistance. Then you can walk over to the guys next to them and do the same once more. I think I once managed to stab 6 people in the neck before they drew their swords. In AC1 if you tried this tricks on a guard that was aware of you they'd simply push you away and then you were in for a real fight. This seems like a small detail but it completely ruins any subtlety or trepidation you might have in facing more than a few opponents.

And then there is the story. I love the conspiracy stuff and it is what keeps me coming back to the series. If anything AC2 and Brotherhood did this much better than AC1. But that is Desmonds story.

Gone is the deep philosophical discussion underlying the story of AC1. The question of how to use power. Who has the right? Can you trust the public to take care of it self or is it better to let a strong man rule? Is doing an evil deed for the sake of good truly evil? Every man that Altair found and killed in AC1 had his own reasons for doing the bad things he did.

One was starving the cities population because he was building up the cities granary for a coming siege.

Another was experimenting and drugging sick and poor people because he wanted to cure mental illness.

Another one again lead a brutal regime in his city but in his wake he left a city with little corruption or crime.

Every time Altair killed one of these men he was forced to ask himself if killing these men was the right thing. Over all the Templars were portrayed as a shadowy group of master manipulators who sought to rule and control not for their own good but for the sake of mankind (how ever cruel that may be).

In AC2 and Brotherhood all this is gone. The people Ezio face are just assholes. Men who kill and steal and terrorise because they can. People who are only consumed by greed and maliciousness. None of them besides Borgia in AC2 seem to have any involvement with the ideas of the templars and that plan. This means that AC2 and Bro just become shallow stories of one families fight against another one. The petty infighting of the middleages nobility.

EDIT: going to play AC1 now, got hyped again. Laughing

Nope, the game states that it is in the ottoman empire -> Istanbul! You see mosques -> Istanbul! It was called constantinople when the byzantinians were in charge, but that seems to be long gone in the game Smug

For me AC2 was the most balanced game - gameplay wise. I liked deciphering the origin video, but AC1 had more things to present, and wasn't so black/white.

All in all, I think the Creed series is pretty solid, especially for a multiplatform.

Agree with most of what you've said, Neon, but combat was still way too easy in AC - yea you got chased forever but you could still just turn around and kill EVERYONE (which sometimes meant 15 guys one by one) without breaking a sweat which looked ridiculous. It was annoying, it dragged out but it was a piece of cake. Devs didn't want to make the combat more challenging - so they just removed some of the annoyance in AC2 (plus made it look somewhat plausable - you were rarely attacked by more than 5 guys outside of the story missions) - but then went completely overboard with the chain counter in AC:B.

It's like in some RPGs - difficulty level only means more health for the enemies and more enemies - their tactics remain the same which doesn't really make the game harder - just annoying and boring.

Quote:

- The bulk of the game is set in Constantinople which will be split into 4 huge districts (Constantin, Beyazid, Imperial and Galata)
- You'll also visit Cappadocia
- Ezio is over 50 years old in this game
- Ezio has a new item called the hookblade which allows him to use ziplines throughout the city. UBI says that it speeds up navigation by about 30%
- You can also use the hookblade to reach out and pull enemies in for a combo
- Ezio can now make bombs through a crafting system. UBI says that there are over 300 bomb types
- They've modified the control scheme so that circle/B will control the hookblade and triangle/Y will control project weapons and bombs
- Eagles vision has become eagle sense. "Eagle sense let's you focus on a character and see where he's been," Amancio says. "You'll get an approximation of where he will go. If you're able to detect the path a guard will take, you can run ahead, set a bomb, and create a trap or an ambush."
- They've expanded on the Borgia Towers concept in order to create a new system. Throughout the city there are Assassin's Den's, you'll need to complete various assault scenarios in order take down the Templar presence (UBI says that there's more variety than in the Borgia Towers). Once you obtain a den you'll be able to upgrade the buildings in that region along with adding ziplines across the rooftops. You'll also be able to change the guards from being hostile to neutral.
- You can lose control of you dens as you gain notoriety. You'll be able to send your own troops after the templars if you're unable to make it back to the specific den that's being attacked. You can do that by making it to any of the other dens that you currently control. You'll also be able to install a master assassin to control a specific den and you'll never have to worry about it being taken over.
- The assassin leveling mechanic has been increased from 10 to 15
- In order to make the world more immersive they've done away with traditional side missions in favor of random events. For example you may be traveling through a city and notice a shop owner being robbed or a little girl asking for help
- They're using a new type of capture facial technology called Mocam that GI describes as an "intriguing amalgamation of traditional animation, performance capture and the fascinating new style of performance on display in games like LA Noire."
- Desmond is placed back inside Animus where he finds a safe mode called the 'Black Room'. You'll be able to access Desmond's lost memories through that back door
- The gameplay during Desmond's game is described as narrative-fueled puzzle sequences. "Through the manipulation and creation of geometry with the game world, Desmond seeks to reintegrate the splintered layers of his subconscious."
- Multiplayer is returning but this time they're trying to give more focus to the narrative since that's a big part of AC
- You'll be able to custom your character appearance and weapons as well as create guilds.

Ezio's story has been told, what more is there? He was already uber in brotherhood, he'll be even more powerful here I assume. Brotherhood was an improvement, but the challenge was absent. That info also tells me this one will go Brotherhood's way, meaning a flimsy story and gameplay mechanics thrown into the mixer. I really liked brotherhood, but I cut it some slack too since I considered it a prelude to AC3.

I have to say that those informations don't sound bad; the game will be a more refined Brotherhood with tweaks here and there and some cool additions (crafting system/hookblade/random missions/facial animations a-la LA Noire etc.); it will be fun. Smile

Has anywhere been mentioned the game could be using the facial-animation technology behind L.A. Noire? I seriously doubt that.

It's not the same technology, but it has been inspired by L.A. Noire:
