Unfortunately, we can't comment on what's going on behind that police line, and we certainly can't encourage you to come back here and check the site over the weekend to see if clues have been revealed as to what it is. We most definitely can't suggest that you share any ideas you have about what this might be in the comments below. |

Yeah, it sounds like something fun to take notice of... rather than a nonsense site shutdown and loss of access to your games. This is fun marketing.

so I'm guessing "GoG' is going to become one of those names where the original words lose all meaning..

Err no. They are not going to sell modern games, because quite simply publishers will refuse to release brand new titles without DRM.
The Witcher 2 is an exception, because it's their own product, and The Witcher 1 well.. is not that old, but it's not new either, plus what I said about being their own product.

Several of their games have been not that "old". At least not compared to their initial offerings.
I would be extremely hesitant to call anything from 2004 onward an "old game" they certainly haven't reached the status of "Good old game"
Demon Stone, Dragonshard, Afterlight, Fantasy Wars, Two Worlds, (the last 3 all 2007)
Good old games really hasn't been for awhile now.

Hm.. Two examples.. In 2008, the year the opened their store, they were selling 2004's Second Sight, and in 2009, they were selling 2005's Psychonauts. So they have been doing this from pretty early..
But fair enough, you have a point about them not being "good old". But the truth is it never really was about "Good Old" = classic, it was about licensing the cheap "legacy/back catalog" games ( that naturally are somewhat old ) from publishers and selling them, with a twist; including extras, bundling them with a nice installer/dosbox config etc.
I actually have many of GoG's games, bought in.. 2004-2005.. that is years before GoG opened.. And I got them from computer games magazines
You see the magazines did the exact same thing, GoG did years later.. they licensed the backcatalogs of Activision, etc.
During that period I got games like:
Amerzone, Vampire The Masquerade: Redemption, Unreal Tournament GOTY, Unreal Gold, Syberia, Runaway: A Road Adventure, Myst: Masterpiece Edition, Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Fathers, Giants: Citizen Kabuto, Fallout Tactics, Jack Orlando: A Cinematic Adventure (DC), The Longest Journey, Space Quest 6, ...
The magazines were also selling them as "good old games from the back catalogs of <insert publisher name here> that we managed to license so that you can enjoy these true classics once again, blah blah blah". A few years later GOG launches and sells the exact same games through their store.

I think it was Epsilon I was talking to and thought it might be a stipulation thing on selling the new games. If you want to sell said game you have to sell this game too. Or sell this game and see how it does then we'll give you access to other games.
