kurwa, o co tu chodzi?

I wonder how many people are going to be upset cause this is not going to be a GTA/RDR type game. No mindless killing or shooting sprees apparently. Fine by me...

I've never been a fan of Rockstar (simply because I don't like sandbox games, or as I like to call them, the "mindlessly fucking around" kind of games). In fact, I hate the "gta formula" of gameplay (ie: waste 5 minutes to get to point A, get a mission to do, waste 10 minutes to get to point b, fail mission, repeat). In other words, I like a bit of structure in a game and a strong story to keep me interested, otherwise I get bored quite easily.

So considering I didn't jump on the hype bandwagon on this particular title and therefore I'm totally ignorant about it, do you think I should check it out, given the above premise?

Wow, someone is actually trying to have a serious discussion on the hump? Who'd have guessed it?
Anyway, yes I think you should. Yes, it is a Rockstar game (well, sort of, since Team Bondi is making it), and yes, it is a sandbox game, but the main part of the game isn't to get from point A to point B, like in GTA IV for example, but rather on solving crimes, interrogating witnesses, gathering evidence and the like. Story's probably gonna be awesome as well. Plus, it's a new IP meaning it's a fine way to give these types of game a try even if you haven't played anything similar.

I don't think RDR was like that. It's simply a quality title with some really fun concepts and is incredibly well made.

So, if we get a game that's as quality a title as RDR, the formula, gameplay, etc. etc. is not a factor simply because of the fact that in RDR you knew (imagined) what you were going to experience, you just didn't know what kind of gameplay mechanics will be used to make it happen and their overall quality. Same case here.

Wow... you mention "strong story" and "structure"? I can't think of many games that has as good or better stories than say GTA: Vice City, GTA IV (plus the two DLC stories) or Red Dead Redemption.

I don't know if you've ever REALLY played these games or not, but to me it sounds like you've either never given the games a real good chance, or you have a pretty short attention span, and can't go around a big, living city without being able to follow the storyline.

Well, it's a matter of personal taste I guess. Speaking for myself, I just don't like how the GTA games are structured ( I've tried to play all of them, from GTA3 onwards, but never finished one btw), to me it just seems like those games are composed of droplets of brilliance (the missions) interleaved by an ocean of tedious driving from point A to point B. I know most people love the "driving around" parts, but to me that is just busy work, no matter how many old ladies I can rob or cops I can piss off on the way.

I don't know exactly what you mean by "short attention span", my attention span (as for avrybody's else I would assume) depends on whether or not I'm enjoying the game... I can be quite obsessive in exploring every single nook and cranny in a game if I enjoy it, if it bores me I give up much sooner.

As for not following the story, maybe I didn't express myself very well. What I mean by "good story" is a plot that actually gets you interested enough to keep coming back to see how it will end. GTA games have usually good dialogue and well developed characters, but it's not like you can't wait to start playing again to see how the plot developes. All the GTA games have the same, very basic story arc: you are the new kid on the block --> friend gets you in contact with the criminal underground of the city --> start doing jobs --> become rich --> fuck hoes --> become richer --> etc... It's not the worst premise, but it's a very tired one, and it's not enough to for me to outbalance a game structure I find tedious (while if the story is good, I can forgive a mediocre gameplay, at least long enough to finish the game usually).

I love GTA and the mindless driving here and there shit, although it does get tedious sometimes, but i have to agree with you on the story. I've been replaying GTA IV and I thought maybe I didn't get the story the first time around cause I was so busy doing all the other shit you could do. This time I played it all together with no interruptions on the story based missions and they are pretty lame, when you get down to it. Nico is so hard up to find and kill that guy but you never really get any back story or reasoning as to why it's so important other than "oh he fucked us over and did some bad shit".

Pretty much all of these elements you mention are the reason for the making of RDR, and perhaps L.A Noire.

GTA IV is mindless fun, and it's good at reasonable doses...it's definitely worth a playthru and it has too much in it to be taken down to "all mindless fun" or any other absolute.

I kinda get distracted by GTA type games. I neglect the missions and end up just going on a rampage but enjoy every minute of it.

The thing I love about GTA is it never lost its roots. I've played GTA from the start (no, not GTA 3 which is in actual fact GTA4 if we go on series progression) and had it back in the day on the PC. It follows the same formula now except technology moved along so it went 3D and we've now got actual CGI rather than still cut-scenes. The same formula is applied to RDR to a lesser degree.

Looking forward to LA Noire but really not sure if I'm going to enjoy it as much as I'd like to. I genuinely don't know what to expect

The one criticism that could be levelled at the game is that the shooting system has been over-simplified so that it feels clunky compared to thelikes of Grand Theft Auto. Sad
