I'm an extremely demanding gamer, and I know that. On top of that, I realised a good while back - that our time on this earth is EXTREMELY limited.
So, since circumstances and environmental factors got me into gaming - that's just what I'm into. I suppose I could have been into the bar-scene or into fucking an endless stream of juicy girls - but my personality and physique got in the way.
Fortunately for me, I sort of compensated for that later in life - but I have to admit that I'm still a passionate gamer at heart, and so that's what I spend a good deal of my limited free time on.
There's no fucking way I'm going to pour my life into pathetic little Smartphone games, with 100% greed-driven motivation behind development.
They're targeting human weakness and impulse-spending is the new throat to rip out.
If I'm going to waste my time in front of a screen, it better be a big screen - and it better have interesting and deep gameplay driving me on. Water-cooler conversations just ain't enough for me to shut off my brain and spend time and money like a trained monkey.
I've bought 15-20 games on the App store - trying to keep an open mind, and wanting them to be good.
To me, they all represent a GIGANTIC leap back in time. It's like playing DOS games on a tiny screen with a fiddly interface.
Games like Aralon, The Quest, Dungeon Hunter 2, and similar are pale imitations of similar games on PC. Aralon seems to want to compete with Morrowind/Oblivion and is a sad joke in that way.
The Quest, which is probably the best CRPG I've played on a small device - is still inferior to Wizardy 7, which was released 20 years ago.
Dungeon Hunter 2 is vastly inferior to Diablo 2 - and it controls like crap.
I don't know how people can convince themselves these games are worth playing, but I guess we must have different expectations.
Smartphones are fine for little cute games like PvZ - and there's nothing in the platform that will physically prevent a strong game design from appearing eventually.
However, from a gamer perspective - it's like using a butterknife to cleave oakwood.
I'm sure if you're overworked and don't really have time to play games - it's "neat" to have a cool little device you can show to your friends, and you can talk about how the latest Unreal engine can look pretty good and so forth. But you will never, ever, escape the fact that a well-equipped PC or a modern console would be about a thousand times better for actual gameplay evolution.
The greed-train has arrived on the Smartphone station, and gaming will suffer for it. This is inevitable. But we don't have to raise our arms in support.
your weak my Iphone can run DOS and WIN95
forget those lame iphone game , lets play some reto DOS/win95 games
Some people get excited about theory - and I get excited by reality.
Sure, it might be possible to run certain games through emulation - but the actual experience is like sitting down on a wet toilet seat, with the fluid being of a faint yellowish color.
Human beings all share in the same ignorance and frailties.
The main difference is that the US is fully capitalistic, and they used to be a big deal - making them proud and blind to the downsides of a greed-driven mindset.
Still, we're idiots in our own ways in Europe and the rest of the world.
This Smartphone sickness is spreading - and we're all going to suffer
Yes, games on phones are a step back from what we have today, but consider this: processing power in a phone or tablet has increased very fast in a very short time. The upcoming tegra3 chip has a quad core CPU with a lot of GFX power to boot at CPUspeeds closing in on desktops and consoles. And ofcourse that isn't close to what we can expect in the near future.
I can see the console not disappearing, but moving. Moving into your pocket. In the future you have a TV and a controller, which you both (wirelessly) plug into your phone to play the games stored on your phone while the phone also provides the computing power. Why have an extra box under your TV when you can use your phone for the same purpose? Ofcourse we are not there yet, but seeing how small a ps2 has gotten, especially when leaving out the DVD drive, I can see this happening in the future. Plug in at the office and you have a desktop, plug it in at home and you have your entertainment...

Yeah, I laugh at people who buy these Android phones that have like a couple hours of battery life at most when you actually *use* it. What in the fuck is the point then. It's like buying those big gaming laptops with 30 minutes of battery life. If you can't actually use the device in a mobile function, then why didn't you just buy a fucking console/desktop.

News flash:
I don't give a fuck about the 3DS. I stopped caring about handheld consoles when the appstore launched for the iPhone.
If I am going to carry around some extra besides my phone it'll be the GBA Micro at most. GBA was and still is the best portable gaming device. No question. Awesome battery life, rugged, and a huge library of amazing games.
yeah i know , but is so funny to see people get their panties wet about something mobile that can output beautiful 3d graphics when the battery life makes that product ... a crap invention
Even worse is that new Thunderbolt. The thing is fucking massive, and has horrid battery life.
I don't know about you guys but I really appreciate the fact that I don't have to plug my phone in until I goto bed. With some of these Android phones I would have to charge it at least 2 times before I went to bed.
Some doucher I work with constantly rags on the iPhone and how his EVO is so much better. I just sit there saying nothing because I know half way through the shift he has to plug the damn thing in while i'm still working away on mine. Not to mention his shit crashes constantly.
I can appreciate these Android devices for what they are, but in real world usage any leg up they have is nullified by the aforementioned.
