This game is nothing like GTA other than being an "open world", and thats stretching it quite a bit as theres not much to see more than sight seeing. The game is the investigation; trying to draw GTA comparisons only sets a person up for disappointment.

bad burn/bad media/bad rip |
Had no problems installing the game but it did freeze up on me at the start when you see the gun on the roof in the window reflection.
Tried it a 2nd time and it was fine.
May the NFOrce be with you always.

I was wondering about this myself. Is it more like Mass Effect (a ton of small stories) or The Witcher (one long narrative)? Or basically, do the random cases end up being interconnected?

If your game won't install go into system setting and clear the cache, I recently had this dirty disc error on EVERY game I tried installing even freshly burnt ones. Clearing the cache fixed it

Yes, it's supposed to be the same fix.
Storywise it seems that some cases are connected other open and shut ones.

disk 2 needs some patching?i didn't have time to follow all the news on the internet about this game so i gues i'm going to ask here, why does disk 2 and disk 3 needs patching?
i have already burned disk 2...can i still patch it or i need to burn another disk with a patched iso or something?

There IS one continuous plot; but from what I can see at the moment, it's quite vague. It's 'pretty much' just sperate stories; but it doesn't take away from anything.

1. hear the briefing
2. drive to the scene
3. search the scene of crime for evidence [the more you look the better your question will be]
4. talk to suspects [Truth,Lie (combined with the right evidence) ,Doubt (if he is telling shit but you can't prove it)]
5. drive to suspect houses
6. book them and make them talk [TLD]
7. repeat
in some cases the mix some case scenes and gun play with driving ... but well its dull if you want a sand box game
will get the PS3 version when the price will be 25$

The actual crux of the game is investigation, interrogation, searching for the facts and then putting together the case. It definitely reminds me of the classic point'n'click adventure games (Tex Murphy <3) -- only a LOT tougher. There's no manual saving, so if you make a mistake you either have to live with it or reload an older autosave, and unlike the older adventure games; you can't just click on every item you have until one works .... if you choose the wrong "item" (read: evidence) to support your claim; it's over. You failed and have to continue on, hopefully to salvage the situation, or fail, or reload.
Damned fun though |
It is a great game for sure, just got to case 12 and it constantly keeps getting better.
Actually the only games that can be compared to this directly are the Ace Attorney (Phoenix Wright) Games on GBA/DS.
In these games you have an investigation part where you talk to people, collect evidence and info, after thats done you go to court and try to win the case with the evidence you have, with options like contradiction (lie) and press (doubt).
When you falsely call a contradiction and present wrong evidence, you get a penalty,
a few more of these and its game over.

I wish I could turn off the on screen button reminders and info. I know pressing RS I can look at someone and X is talk, and hitting people with a car is bad. Shits me

I'm about to burn the game for a friend - is the Disc 2 & 3 fix needed for a box that is only used offline?

I really cant be bothered reading through the last 10 pages of the forum and Im not fully clued up on the disc 2 video issue which means it might need patching.
I got disc 1 and it works fine except for the super stutter at the first intro which was odd but I read someone else had that problem so its obviously not related to my console.
My Xbox is flashed with LT+ firmware and the game did not ask me to run any updates before I was able to play it.
My disc 2 is this - L.A.Noire.XBOX360.DVD2.RF-iND
My disc 3 is this - ind-lanoire-x36-dvd3
I read the video issue affects only the 2nd disc?
I plan on burning both discs as they are and troubleshooting if I have issues, or should I patch first anyway?
May the NFOrce be with you always.

Run it through ABGX360 first and check if it coughs up a video partition missing message, which would be highlighted in yellow text. If that's the case, then you'll definitely need to fuse a valid video partition to it. I have patched both disc 2 & 3 with wave 3 video and PFI file. Disc 2 is working perfectly. Haven't burned Disc 3 yet, but I'm sure it will be fine as well. I suggest you extract the PFI and video partition from the first disc and club it into disc 2 and 3.

It's more like Mafia 2 in there's an open world but little to do in it. It's okay for Team Bondi's first outing. Perhaps in the future we'll see a sequel that's more in line with GTA, that brings a little more action whilst retaning current qualities the original game has.

Hopefully not, not every game needs to be sandbox IMO and unless they get a 100 million dollar budget like GTA 4 every attempt to add sandbox content will result in reallocation of resources from storytelling and main missions to pigeon hunting/racing/dating/whatever...

Not that much to do after finishing GTA 4 either, Saints Row 2 was more fun imo, not better... but more fun.
This game really is like nothing we have seen before, and I love it. Just really needed a break now after 16 hours...

Question for those who have completed 'The Golden Butterfly' case:
Spoiler: | I got 3 wrong answers while interrogating Eli, but got 3/4 right while interrogating Hugo. I got a prompt to charge Hugo for the murder or leave the room. I chose to charge him with the murder, as most evidence pointed towards him. I come out of the room and the Captain starts yelling at me for doing a lousy job. What the hell was all that about? I'm confused. Was Hugo Moller the real killer or was it Eli? Didn't Hugo try to burn the bloody shoe, which was an evidence? Could both of them them be working together on this? |
