Make sure guys, who have nvidia cards, that you uninstall 3d vision driver or just stop 3d vision service, it can help too.

Thanks mate, that works to a certain degree, left/right are ok but it will not work for up/down. I am probably overlooking something obvious. For some reason when i actually run the game it assigns up/down to something else not shown in the config prog.

Definitely.
When I first tried to boot up the game, it literally took me several minutes to get to the first menu. The intro videos were playing at 1 framerate a second. To make it worse, there are 5 of them. The menu stuttered like hell too.
After uninstalling the 3d drivers, everything booted up fast and I can play on medium settings (no AA or ubersampling) at 1680x1050 pretty smoothly.

question for gamepad users, whats the "awesome" button for highlighting stuff ? activate medallion "z" key on keyboard.
... and anyone have a save around from tw1 ? i know there are some in the topic, but canot find them. and i dont want to reread 100+ pages to get one.
the only thing i dislike until now is the inventory and other menu. you canon get back to previously menu tree, so you need to close, and open again. kinda crap.

That tool makes absolutely no sense. Detected my recommended settings as LOW, even though I play on Ultra with Uber-fpskilling-sampling off and shadows + lights at medium.
And this is on a X3 @ 3.5 Ghz...
I am still annoyed by mouse lag in menus and some weird responsiveness in-game. Managed to improve things a bit, by tweaking the user.ini found in C:\Users\"yourname"\Documents\Witcher 2\Config. Thx to JonasB for pointing to it as I struggled pointlessly with the user.ini found in the game install dir.
_______
Tough decision ahead though: buy the game or buy a new mainboard to unlock 4th core to play "demo" version properly?

honestly, i dont like tw2 much, sure it looks great, but gameplay is derped down to 1 button almost all of the time and quick time games pressing a button, seriously, way too consolish. Tw1 was way better. People said combat in the last templar was too easy or not complex, here its the same thing, exactly the same thing ...

Funny you should say that, combat in TW1 was pretty much just one button

Seriously, I prefer TW2's combat...
In TW1, combat was the only flaw imho.

You can. You have to drink them before you fight and need to meditate to do so.

I also prefer TW2 combat as it's a lot harder.

Another gamepad question: Is there a way to 'pick up all' or sheathe my sword without going into the radial menu thing?

Disagree strongly. You can't have played through a lot of this game. You simply cannot complete most difficult fights without really being prepared/using tactics. If you go straight in and button-mash, you die. There aren't any quick-health potions/mana potions in this like other games, so if you fight without tactics, you're dead (try it on anything higher than normal). As for dialogue options, there are usually between 3-6 options with two or three having consequences. Which isn't much less than, say Planescape Torment had. But in this game they actually have consequences that ripple through the game.
I'm approaching act 3 now, and I am becoming a fanboi of this game. It is not without flaws, facial animations feel a bit 1990'ies, but then again few gaming companies put as much attention to it as Rockstar.
This is without a doubt a game that makes its competitors of today look like amateurs. CD Project are now what Black Isle/Interplay and Through The Looking Glass were in the late 90'ies early 2000's. That is to say, they are the only ones able to make a solid RPG. The only competition, really, is Mass Effect. But it is still simply too linear to beat TW2.
Yes, yes I'm back.
Somewhat.

i wonder, are u playing the game on easy or below easy? Or maybe u are watching sex scenes and using ur one hand? Cause if u'd play on hard with one button u wouldnt do square in combat. As for me i'm using block, attack, magic, setting traps and so on and AFAIK u can't do that with one button...

I haven't finished the first Witcher. It's imperative that I do, or can I play the 2nd without feeling I'm missing out too much?
And how's the performance on shitty PCs?

Just starting... two questions:
Is it useful to import Witcher 1 saves when starting a new game? ( Any benefits for the witcher or different story? )
Is it possible to change difficulty AFTER starting a new game (like in DA 2)? . I remember the boss fights in Witcher 1 were not exactly easy... maybe later you notice its too difficult for your playstyle and then its too late...
thanks
