i started playing with mouse/keyboard.
on hard.
after a while, i switched to normal.
after a while, i got my 360 gamepad out, i dint use it from "the last remnat" game.
now i can play on hard again.
much better and natural control. even if i dint use a gamepad for like 2 years.
dont know if this is a good thing, or a bad thing .

honestly, i dont like tw2 much, sure it looks great, but gameplay is derped down to 1 button almost all of the time and quick time games pressing a button, seriously, way too consolish. Tw1 was way better. People said combat in the last templar was too easy or not complex, here its the same thing, exactly the same thing ...
... Cause if u'd play on hard with one button u wouldnt do square in combat. As for me i'm using block, attack, magic, setting traps and so on and AFAIK u can't do that with one button...
Unless you have this:

I haven't finished the first Witcher. It's imperative that I do, or can I play the 2nd without feeling I'm missing out too much?
And how's the performance on shitty PCs?
I didn't either, and I think it would be a good idea to play it first... I'm only at the prologue and there are already several characters and events that the game seems to assume you know.
As for performance, I'm on a core2quad Q6600, 4gb ram and and old shitty 8800gts 320, the game is playable @1920x1080 if you set texture downsampling to "low" and disable most of the effects (AA and SSAO in particular).

Thanks. On the 1st I stopped playing sensible at the middle, after a game breaking bug, that prevented me from completing a quest. I ended up using a save game editor to bypass the bug, but after it I felt like I cheated, and stopped playing. Yesterday I restarted the game, but after playing 5 minutes, I had no desire to "relive" everything again, so I shelved the game again.
I'm really tempted in downloading the 2nd, at least to see if it runs on my laptop.

Well it's clear the game was made for conso.... errr I mean with consoles in mind.

I started playing with KB&Mouse.
After a while I thought, let's be wild and do something awesome.
So I plugged in my 360 esque Logitech Chillstream.
After I walked around with my Analogstick, my face went like this and I forgot how to breath.
I nearly died. But gladly I realized what I have to. But I had to do it fast. My life was at stake. I threw the Pad aside and gained the ability to breath back. Shit was intense guys!
Now I can play again and feel perfectly healthy.

Back2Topic
I saw the American box of Witcher2 a couple of minutes ago. LMAO! It's times like these, where I'm glad to live in Europe.

Play on hard. Maybe I'm exceptionally retarded but I have to potion/trap/oil/sign/bomb/block/dodge like a motherfucker, lest I be two-hitted by anything that is more powerful than three drowners.
And suddenly TW2 is more complex than its predecessor, a few times over. Because I never had to worry too much about that stuff in TW1 on hard. Well, kind of, but I could just chug five potions in combat, so who cared .
This game is so epic. It's easily the best rpg i've played. It's the new standard.
Pros: Almost eveything, specially the ambient design and the gorgeous graphics.
Cons: QTE's, finishing moves, some UI limitations like the inventory, making potions by repetedly pressing enter instead of choosing quantity, and some bugs.
For the people that got some problems with the combat:
Watch and adapt. Ofc, this video isn't made by me.

yo, just skilled riposte, does it trigger automatically? Haven't been in combat since.
No, you have to keep blocking and hit the left mousebutton when the enemy is attacking.
Now skill Whirl as soon as possible. Then you'll (finally) hit more than one Enemy with your strikes. 1 point = 50% damage / 2 points = 100% damage to all enemies who got hit.
So you're fighting works becomes similar to the Group Fight Style in the first game.
Playing on those settings. My rig being a PhenomII 710@x4 3.2Ghz, 2Gb Ram and an un-oced HD4850 I'm having no problems at all, the fps hovers around 35 and sometimes way more depending on the scene, at first I picked high textures but apparently 512 doesn't cut it and it was catching up a lot.

Anyone found a place to download the english day-1 patch?
Also, it says my registration code is "unlimited" that it can be installed on as many PC's as i want. Isn't that kind of stupid of them to make such registration codes?? Kind of defeats their purpose.
What's hard in it? That you die in a few hits? Well, with proper rolling around, you don't get hit ... at all. Rolling is your bread and butter, you simply have to do it, and often, to be good in this game.
I play on hard, and don't find the combat hard, I find it tedious. There's no complexity at all.

There is no friggin other Patch then the 28mb one (which actually is the Day-1 Patch)when you activated the game. Stop asking...
I was so fucking confused a couple of pages ago because so many people talked about those stupid russkie starforce infested TW2 version and the 2 patches for it. I went crazy because I had no friggin clue why I only had the 28mb patch...
The game will update automaticly if there is a new update/patch.

The only patch that is downloading is the activation patch (which is needed for the game to even run), if you pay attention it says which patch is currently downloading and it's named "activation patch", nothing else was downloaded for me. But yeah maybe it's already included in the english release..

The fucking 28mb patch, which some of you keep calling activation patch, is also the day1 patch...
