On insane it's game over when you die. That's the most important difference. |
That sounds great, it'll actually feel like your playing more of a real person. What about the enemy health/decreased damage thing? Is it taken to really bad proportions?

Finally finished it.
I'll say this - it's really refreshing to play a game that finally takes advantage of modern day hardware. Also, much respect to these guys for pledging to make all future DLC free - that's the way it should be done. I can't say I'm not perplexed as to why they went with such a console oriented inventory system (scrolling list instead of boxes), but I suppose that's a minor complaint in the grand scheme of things.
As for the game-play itself, the weakest part by far was the combat system, which is unfortunate given how much of it you do. Don't get me wrong, the original system was utter shit, and this I'd qualify as an improvement, though only barely. It places far too much reliance on spamming roll, most of the signs are worthless (Igni, Axii), while one is undoubtedly mandatory (Quen). I get what they tried to do there, but it didn't work.
The crafting system is weak, and the way alchemy was implemented made it fairly useless. The persuasion/intimidation system didn't have any real depth to it either, and could have been omitted entirely in my opinion. The mini-games were fun, but FAR too easy. I find myself wishing they used them more (more complex quests rather than just beat 4 opponents).
Story wise, I enjoyed it, though having never finished the first game I'd be lying if I said I wasn't lost quite a few times during all the political shit they were spouting. It does kind of make me want to grin and bear it and finish the original, if nothing else just so that I could get a better grasp on what was going on.
Overall, despite how much I bitched about it, I still enjoyed it, and I've got a new found respect for the developer. Anxiously awaiting a real expansion or sequel.
And before I forget, +10 points on the rating for all the whores!
I can never be free, because the shackles I wear can't be touched or be seen.

agreed about the signs, varying uses. axii was good on groups when you could get 3 seconds to charge it up, using that basically gets 2 guys off your case. igni was good when it was aoe and lit guys on fire, constant damage was a help at least a few times. but axii with the charge time and single target igni kinda blew.

I'm playing insane on my second playthrough. I don't suggest it, unless you really master the combat - and turn difficult quicktime events off, because one press of a wrong button will be the end of you then.
Insane is good - you have saves for one reason only: to be able to continue, where you left off, after taking a break. You die on insane, you stay dead. I managed to finish around 40-45% thus far on insane, but let me tell you, I had some very fucking tense moments, because sometimes I dodged in an obstacle or some such. Just stay vigilant, all the time - use quen, buff it to max too.

Has anyone found this mysterious merchant? I didn't see him in C1 and I've not seen him yet in C2.

I think he only came if you pre-ordered at Gamestop / EB Games.

Also I think it's Ultimate Swordsman pack, not suit so all it does as easily noticed is give you a pack of oils and weapon enhancements, this does make it the most unbalanced of the DLC so far but not by much, you'll go trough them fairly quick after all.

P.S.
I think original name for Finisher Pack is "finishers.dlc". At least that's the only thing I got referenced through google search.

Hmmmm I have a problem. I am on level 7, Act 1 and I saved this melena girl and followed her into the woods. Then 5 scoiatel appeared and wanted to kill me. While I was able to kill all enemies up to that point on normal (which wasn't always easy but you could pull it of with the right timing), those 5 scoiatel were impossible to kill. And even on easy it was so hard that I ran with them through the whole woods into the city (where nobody cared! THAT SUCKED!) and back out again so that some mob would take their attention. Finally I was able to seperate two of them and kill them... then I got the others which where spread troughout the woods...
TLDR;:
suddenly my weapon is weak as shit and enemies have 5x more health?! even a mob with some idiots was very very strong.

Thanks! And yes, original name of Finisher Pack is "finishers.dlc" (I have it bundled with my edition), but this file is 0 bytes so i have no idea how it works.

Alright, I'm on the fence b/w pulling the trigger on either a GTX 570 or a Radeon 6970 for W2. I'm guessing performance should be about the same, but is there something inherently wrong with AMD's Catalyst drivers? Seems there are a few AMD complaints @ GOG.com, which is making me learn towards nVidia...

I would not base my buying decision on one game... nvidia had a leg up with this game and amd is playing "catch up" driver wise.. go to sites like HardOCP and others check out the compariisons there then decide.

Nvidia has a leg up in most games. If you want good driver compatibility and PhysX, then go Nvidia. Trust VGA on this.
