Hollywood shuns intelligent entertainment. The games industry doesn't. Guess who's winning?

Not really the place for this thread, but I imagined this is where the most honest and good answers would be posted.

I am not so sure you can really say Portal 2 ist to video games, what Space Odyssey 2001 was for cinema.

Also there are so many shitty games out there as there are bad movies, just like there are good movies and good games. Also Portal 2 and LA Noire are not the best video games ever. Did he just start playing Computer games or what?

Problem is the game industry is fast going the same derp road that movies have gone for some time now.
And that quote about game industry not shunning intelligent entertainment is kinda ironic with all the easily available games of the industry today.

I believe it's safe to say that for every retarded movie out there there are at least two, three bad games. (I'm talking about commercial titles, not obscure films(indies not included, in the obscure category).

I hate it when people without proper experience are making these types of articles, some of the paragraphs make me feel as though someone's scraping my brain with sand-paper. A similar thing happened with a romanian chick journalist. Didn't matter what game it was, she was comparing it with World of Warcraft, even though the game in clause wasn't even an MMO.

@ Couleur: Comparing 2001 to any form of entertainment is also pointless. It had good visual effects for its time, but other than that it's a gigantic piece of shit; the only reason it's considered a classic is because it's Kubrick.

that article is just stupid.
lots of movies aren't intelligent entertainment, but it's just the same for games.

just like there's a few games that move away from the mainstream and do something special, there's a few movies that do the same. I don't see how games are better than movies in that regard.

Gaming's ongoing push into the mainstream consciousness has entered a bold new phase – by appealing to the players' intelligence and imagination, it's starting to make Hollywood look embarrassing.

Ah, now I know why gaming has become so mainstream, it's because it finally appeals to the players' intelligence and imagination. Thanks The Guardian!! Smile

Sure, and you have a doctorate in film history to support your claim?
