I'm just wondering about this... Have the world gone out of ideas for a website that will be as successful as Facebook? Do you believe that there'e could more websites like this?

Share thoughts and ideas. Smile

There will be a lot more. And it will all come in booms and busts. We're in a boom cycle right now.... but all I have to say is remember 2000.

I think facebook will continue to be the norm for social networking sites just because it is easy to use so it appeals to a vast number of users, and has the most users, people can connect more.

If something comes up new it would have all the same features that facebook does cuz people don't like change that much.

#1
I think the *** profile page would be more customizable, like allow HTML/CSS,*** People love to express themselves. There would have to be a basic profile option, more advanced, with skins and themes choices. Then a advanced option which allows HTML/CSS

#2
The wall/blog spot would have different fonts/colors/sizes.

#3
I think the new website would be more pro-member rights. Respecting privacy, browsing habits, and the picture/creative work rights of ownership. Mega spam filters.

#4
And you could post pictures on r forums, and as attachments in which the intended party didn't require a account. Double as a handy basic image hosting service. If the members wanted extra bandwidth or storage then they could buy that.

#5
I would have a secured feature called breifcase (how origional LOL)
-allowing for secured resume and document storage feature in which would be accessible online only to you and postable only by you. There would also be a private journal or blog that would not be shared unless you chose it.

#6
Also better chat with downloadable customizable emoticons , and chat rooms.

#7
It would have games, but you don't have to depend on other members to play so much.

The same was said about earlier social networks.

In the end the sites make tons of money on dimwits that ignore the fact that they are simply generators. That and the issue of it being pseudo-social brain-numbing hypocritical. Cool Face

Just a side note, the funny thing about Facebook is that, it's nothing new. Social networks were there before Facebook, but what Facebook did to differ itself was thinking world wide. That's what others didn't do while it was right under their nose. :\

MP3 players existed before the iPod, and yet the iPod dominated the market. Why? Superior design, execution, and marketing. Similar concepts apply to Facebook.

IMO it's mainly marketing that causes products to dominate, all good marketing is a lie.

Tainted is right, there's always room for more, especially as the internet evolves and new innovations become possible. Groupon for example just rejected Google's buyout offer of ~$5.3 billion, so the owners must be convinced they can do even better than that on their own - not bad at all for a site with essentially a very basic idea.

Which I guess is same reason Mark Z. didn't sell Facebook yet.
