in response to linear
Spoiler: | on an early mission i was chasing some guy and if you wait and wait while chasing him he grabs a member of public and threatens to shoot him --- however if you shoot him before he gets to the member of the public then thats the end of him so slightly different... not finished so cant tell you if ending is same |

the thing here was i started to dislike this game when
you had the right items to get the right guy but your forced to fail
oh gee thats the BIG ARK thats joining those all cases
the other thing that was also mentioned here was how those cases or rather those clues where given to you,
how you ask , by LUCK ! i can understand your a lucky guy that has the luck of finding the right guy ONCE but when you find all your suspect in every single case by luck, oh officer he looks like this guy , oh detective he sits there behind you , oh hi you killed him [chase scene]
you just go mental ,
game looks nice , has great animation but thats not what a game makes
this game would be a GOTY :
if those conversations would have real dialog options then just LIE button , DOUBT button , TRUTH button
if those cases would not have those retarded out of the blue sudden luck findings , they should be more detective like combining clues to find stuff
and
if you could be a bad cop that was good , you can't intimidate/hit/bribe suspects only use goody two shoes i have the evidence to lock you in jail |
have to agree with that one 100% u cant go wrong with clues and shit but as again.. the facial animations is sooo good =) and the story was like a movie .. made me interested.. and Mat Parker from the serie Heroes.. look up heroes and mat parker in imdb.. was one of the subjects.. damn.. he looked like him on the spot.. he even said on his site "damn that was scary" =) but mediocer game but kills some hours.. sorry for the long post guys.. just come hom from the clubs =) but ill give it a hmm 7/10 for the facial animations otherwise maybe 6

Ive had to open my old fat 360 up and blow a fan straight onto it to even play this game without heating issues. Although to be fair I recently xclamp fixed this box, so it could be just on it's way out.

Got no problems at all with this game when it comes to freezing, dont know what the patch fixed but even after playing 3 hours straight I had no problems at all.
Excellent game and was worth my euro`s, my wife is playing the pirated version also with no problems.

this game gets so fucking boring once you realise its the same shit format to each case. the side missions are an irritation and the open-world city is boring as hell to drive through.
i am SO glad i didnt buy this game, im not even sure whether i'll make it as far as disc 3 - its just a grind through clue search, interview, cut-scenes and foot/car chases. yawn. what a waste of the reputed 6 year development time.
i cant believe i was (finally) drawn into the hype for this very average game.

If you don't rush it and take it slow, play one or two cases per day/night - like watching a show, it holds up. I imagine that if you rush through the cases, it will get old really fast.
As for the side missions/open world critique... you know, people and even the press have said times and times again that this is not GTA.

I was playing it for a week. two-three cases a eveing. Best way to play this fantastic game imo.
The Show structure really gives for this.

Im on PS3 firmware 3.41 jailbroken and this game only works with 3.55 cfw at the moment. Because I dont want the hassle of updating to the cfw, can I buy the original game and play it without updating to to official 3.61?
Also, should I perhaps update to CFW3.55 anyway? Would I lose any compatibilty with games Ive already got running on 3.41 (hacked 3.41 eboots etc)?
Thanks |
it also works on 3.41, here's the topic on psx-scene : http://psx-scene.com/forums/f187/patch-la-noir-3-41-version-us-87321/

All I find myself doing it walking around mashing X till I pick up an arbitrary object that is no more evident of being a clue than anything else in the room. The obvious clues are sometimes there, yeah, but seriously, you don't get to pick and choose. Everything is too predetermined.
I think this type of game can never really work so long as there are limitations to what you can do and the choices you can make. It's for these reasons there should have been less cases to avoid repetition, and do you really need the city? It's pretty pointless, it's basically on rails but presented in an open world, kind of like Mafia 2 in that regard.
I don't have much of a will to finish it at the moment :/ |
So, you'd rather they have a system where you mark what you think is a clue - how would that work exactly? There would have to be SOME system in place to show you that what you have picked up is actually valid to your case. Otherwise you've got a cluebook full of Pepsi Bottles and Broken Fans.

you're right - but thats exactly why the game is poorly designed, they should have realised how boring and repetitive the system is and done something different.
im the same, just hit X over and over until the tinkle sound tells you the clues are found (the linearity of the game usually stops you doing much until youve found what they want anyway) and as said above, its ridiculous that no matter what you do in questioning you end up with the same result. who cares if you get less ranking points, makes no difference whatsover.
i think i'll finish it simply because i burned all 3 discs initially and might as well - had i only burned 1 i dont think i would even bother. give it 6 months and everyone will realise how overated and boring this game is. we should all be grateful we didnt have to buy it, that really would be depressing. as it is, i dont think its worth 3 verbs.

I had 1 freeze up myself, with my jtag. Only time i've ever had it hard lock on me. I stretched this one out about 2 weeks so I played it every night for an hour or 2. Also, I was surprised to learn this - everytime I finished one disc I would overwrite the contents of that folder with the next disc since all 3 have the same ID. I can go back and play each disc as I want without copying over the files again. All 3 are under that 1 folder and it works. Kinda surprised me so maybe that will help someone in the future
I gotta agree with the other guys about the clues. As for how picking up what you think would work as a clue, that would be pretty easy. If you had nothing but pepsi bottles and broken fans you'd obviously never solve the case. But if you collected everything you thought was relevant then you could return to your office and put it all together, or stare at your clue book and put it all together or whatever. They're right, it's on rails. You look at something, examine it, and then it tells you where to go, most times. I think all anyone is trying to say is they could've made it a little less linear and given you more freedom to think for yourself, which is what I was expecting all along.

Ok I am at the end of disc 2 and I have to say I am getting a little tired of it. I think it really lacks in mission variation and that it is too linear. Will still play it through though.
