Uninstalled once i couldn't pass without doing the XGames bullshit, it's a god damn Rally game not messing around.
Overall i can say for sure that i enjoyed Dirt 2 alot more, it was alot more fun to be honest, and the Ken Block like events weren't obligatory and that was nice. Too bad since i wanted to enjoy this, had some great cars, Audi Quattro, Renault R5 Turbo (surprised there wasn't a Gordini), Lancia Delta Integrale, etc.
Graphics aren't that good, you can't even tell that it's a 2.0 engine compared to Dirt 2, imo lightning especially during night time looked ALOT more realistic in Shift 2 (too bad controls fucking sucked, also, bumper cars and sticky opponents).
Rally stages are way too short, 2 minutes for a whole stage ? What the fuck man ..
PS
are these even in the game ?
Lancia Delta S4
Porsche 959

Perhaps those are among the VIP cars, registered (LIVE serial and that I mean.) users get a DLC download (Free) via marketplace (Or the in-game interface for it.) unlocking various extras among which I think there were four cars.
(Console users get a little voucher in the game box.)
i played this for ~30 minutes. i don't like racing games so i'm already on the fence before i even start the game but i see if it entertains non-racing game fans. the short answer is nope.
dx11 and 2560x1600 full screen support (w2, i'm looking at you) with all settings to max makes the game look absolutely gorgeous. i played with weather set to rain and you can see the dirt building up to cover the car. it's amazing looking how the dev pay attention to the little details like rain droplets.
xb360 pad support is another plus. it's smooth and silky just like playing on a console except you get the best of both world with powerful pc hw and ease-of-use/convenience of console.
gameplay wise, it's just your typical driving game. it's quite the snore-fest. dumb hicks driving around in a circle multiple times.
the menu interface is atrocious. whoever designed this should have their face kicked in and poo'ed all over.
i might keep it around just to see other weather affects but nothing more.
No, it's got to do with it being a fucking rally game.
Bloody V-Rally and GT1 handle better than this and while GT1 had that same tag GT5 has, it was by no means a sim just like GT5 isn't. Again, the previous CMR games handled tons better, and that was most certainly not a sim.
This game does not handle well, period. It handles easy, but not well. Don't mistake me not liking it with me not being able to win my races in this. I just play as if I'm playing any random road racing game, and it's fine.
Edit: I'm using an XBOX 360 controller btw, and that hasn't stopped me from liking GRID or Trackmania (to name a couple of arcade games), nor has it stopped me from loving LFS/iRacing/Shift/Shift 2 to death. I simply do not have the room for a wheel right now, hence the gamepad. Don't claim it is completely different with a wheel, because this still is the same goddamn engine as it was in Dirt 1 and GRID, and those were fine.
can't agree with v-rally etc handling better, its just not true
i have both an xbox 360 pad and a g25 wheel, is it significantly better with the wheel? why yes, yes it is
no idea how u manage u play iracing with a pad, i've been a subscriber from day one and tried with a pad myself and it's impossible to be anywhere near competitive with wheel users

so much more advanced than this bullshit why are we going backwords?
you're aware of how much more games cost to make these days yeah? and how much more time is in involved ye?
you honestly expect codemasters to create that much content for a modern rally game now?
the days of pure rally games are gone, get over it and play richard burns if you want. the dirt series sells much more than the old games and now games cost so much more to make you can't honestly expect them to take a chance and make a hardcore game that will most likely flop in the mainstream even if it is lauded by hardcore gamers.
big business and big money has changed the gaming industry forever and for the worse that i will not dispute but that's the way it is now at every studio not just codemasters, no one can afford to take chances in this economic climate, not with big AAA games anyway

So I'm not the only one who absolutely hate this yo yo man american wannbe cool stunts xgames shit. I can't understand why they had to add this. And the worst part is that at some point during the carrer it's unskippable. Also the gxf are worse than dirt 2 and the handling is even more arcade.
Youre not the only one who hates that yo yo wannabe xgames bullshit. I do too. Why the hell has this Gymkhana crap been so hyped up. I want a rally game ffs... Like Colin Mcrae 2 was. With proper stages and with actual repairs and setupd during the stages. Give us that. Also i hate that there are certain liveries on the car only. I want to create my own. Why cant i actually build up my career with cars that i have to buy rather they throw the best cars at me from the start. BS!
i expected replies based on memes and with little content actually explaining how i could be wrong...and that's what i got
enough of this thread, i can't be bothered arguing my points with immature responses like that. i'll just carry on enjoying the game like most others seem to be doing from other boards
downloaded RBR the other day with the updated conversion mod 2011... While it was great to drive- the visuals were way too dated at this point. Fun to drive- horrid to look at. With a wheel mind you. Was great fun in its day... Downloading CMR 2005 now to play that for a bit, I long for a pure rally game, long stages, many Countries, fixing your car along the way, a point system etc.. Off to install and give it a go.. I never had a wheel back then, I do now, G27..

Perhaps you have crappy coordination. I definitely don't have the precision I had with my wheel, but I'm not far off. The biggest issue in most games is getting the linearity right. Let me guess, you use the full 900 degrees on your wheel as well yeah? I hope you do realise that no racing car has that kind of rotation, only production cars do?
As for my statement regarding V-Rally: flick your wheel or pad in that one, and your car will respond to it straight away, kicking out its rear end like it should. In this, you have to slow that down while you wait for the car to respond. Like I said, it handles easy, but not well.

How is this true? Dirt 3 is identical to Dirt 2 in many ways, there's a lot they simply didn't have to spend any time on. The money goes into marketing, not production. Existing engine that's barely been modified, short and simple tracks..what exactly did they spend time on?

Hardly true. Shift was an odd title for the NFS series, and with its sequel the developers listened to many complaints. Even now after its released, they have people lurking on some popular forums, taking community feedback into development. I can name several other developers and publishers that still spend more money on production than marketing, but Codemasters is not in that list.
From what I understand it's a new Engine built of the F1 2010 engine, hence rain and different times of day. OTher than that it looks better to me then Dirt2 as I have that one and still play it. Dirt 2 to me looks cartoony compared to Dirt3. Only talking looks here not driving model as that has also changed IMO from D2, not worse, not better, different. Eh still want a pure rally game. D3 still is not that.

Same, did in the end, after X tries and pure luck involved, I guess.
Dirt 2 WAS better, only if it weren't for those voices. Wonder why they didn't do that for Dirt 3(when you hit or pass someone) but without those "hey dude herpa derpa", have normal people do them.
This feels like an expansion, rather than a fully fledged game.
the more you play it the more annoying "your team" is with then awesome amigo, and the way to go muchacho, I laughed out loud at that one. What bullshit, so they removed the American Derpness for European Derpness, ok, WTF

Well, I don't know. It sounds to me still American derpness, only more south-of-the-border from USA.
Muchacho
