Black Ops...

I wouldn't be disappointed if I had been able to buy just the singleplayer for 15-20$. But this will be the only COD games that I pay for.

The Halo game from 1999 that was PC exclusive.. The one with the flying baby with a halo. Bought it, never opened it or played it. Read a very bad review after getting it home. That was my lesson in game industry hype and propaganda. I've bought many duds over the years. Overall it's worth the risk, but I've gotten better and more selective about what I buy now. The key is to not be impulsive about buying games unless they are on sale for very cheap!

I think that game was called Messiah.

Witcher. Got the Enhanced Edition in a Steam Sale. Awful awful combat system - reminds me of the worst aspects of Secret of Mana on the SNES, with it's input lag, and timing nonsense. The story is poor: Amnesiac anti-hero wanders around to look for hist past and future? Really? So dull. Bugged (I finished the "escort the cute girl home and shag her" quest quickly, so when she said meet me tomorrow night, she actually meant tonight. Didn't realise this at the time.) And an assumption that you'll just "know" certain things (like the Lost Lamb quest - hours I spent talking and re-talking to people in the Swamp. Finally caved and wlooked at a walkthrough. It turns out you can't complete it til Chapter 3.)

Dragon Age 2. Now. It's a bad game. But do i regret buying it? I completed it (more than can be said for Witcher), but I paid over the odds for it, so I think, yes, I regret buying it for the cash I spent. But I pre-ordered it, so what can you do?

Seriously though - anyone here actually like that combat system? Everyone talks about games being derpified, but good god, Witcher's combat is, actually, just like SoM, and that's how many years old? And a console game!

Nice. Let's immediately go into abusing members. What next, "Your mom" jokes?

Seriously, I'll understand if people say it's good despite the combat. It's not perfect, but it's good, I'll grant you. But... Just. Look. At. The. Combat.

Anyways. *shrugs*

Some of games you guys picked I really enjoyed and definitely i dont regret buying (Borderlands, Hellgate, Witcher, Crysis 1+2 and even Sacred 2 ) but everyone has different taste. Very Happy
Games I regret buying the most are:
Mafia 2 - derped down compared to the first one
GTA IV - its like a little improved GTA III which is better IMO
AC 1 - long and boring start and when it gets intresting very good its end
AC 2 aand Settlers 7- not because of game itself but becaose of stupid DRM
and some shitty games which I cant remeber Wink

I know it can be easy at times, but derpified?

Break it into the most basic, and the combat system is just "choose a weapon. Bash a button". Sure, there's an element of strategy inasmuch as you have to choose the right weapon, and you can cast spells, but there's no... depth to it, I suppose. To me anyways.

But, hey, we're all different. Smile

And a point about my completeing DA2. It might just be that, because I spent so much money on it, I felt I had to complete it. Witcher cost me as much as a sandwich from Starbucks, and tbh, it's not wrth the anger it generates, with the stupid timing attacks. Very Happy

Lot of 2's there ^_^

Basically everyone of them was dumbed down, that's it. Most of them started as PC classics.

I fucking hope you were dumb enough to preorder those and didn't actually buy them *after* the ISO demo came out Razz
And Batman: AA a button masher? Sure, if you don't bother playing it on hard and actually using the combat system properly. One of the better combat systems out there, both timing and brains needed, I approve.

Exactly why I don't buy games before being able to try them, only very few games I have enough faith in beforehand (AAA titles that is). Mafia 2 I saw coming from a mile away, DA2 was painfully obvious, ME2 I had the ISO demo (because I didn't see them improving the many faults the first one had).

I do regret buying shit like Aion though. Couple of mates said it was fantastic and convinced me into going along with them, but it sucked balls. Same goes for Global Agenda for example. Nice idea, terrible execution. Easier for me to say which games I'm glad I bought to be honest, because there's quite a few that have turned out to be absolutely worth it.

Wow, I had to think real hard and long about this one.

But I got one, had to dig real deep into my memory.

This game was way too hard, could only buy one game every half year so yes I was pissed.

I only buy Multiplayer games, and they were always worth my money. Razz

He's somewhat right about it folks. But the same would go with 90% of every game. Even the games he perhaps likes more than TW. So this was actually a somewhat stupid point Rolling Eyes
Funny thing is, the bugs/flaws of TW he's talking about are real and it's a damn shame that CDPR still didn't learn... since "minor" things like these are still present in TW2.

Maybe. Final Fantasy 3/6 is actually perfect. Same goes for BG 1. Dungeon Master. Dragon Age Origins was buggy, but it was good enough that I could ignore it. Super Meat Boy. All of these games are (imo) better than TW, and not bugged vastly, or have tired Action RPG mechanics.

In truth I haven't bought many I didn't think were actually worth the money - any regret would be that I added loads to my collection without the time to play them and even if I never bought another game again I doubt I'd have the time to get through all I own.

I have to get an hour minimum entertainment for every pound I spend on a game for it to be worth the money. It doesn't have to be a totally addictive romp. Games are often like movies. You might well play/watch and not be blown away but have some passé level of enjoyment that doesn't necessarily mean the thing is totally shit.

I think too many think that pound for pound, money spent on games is actually worth more than money spent on pizza. I'm not saying that I don't consider many of my games as precious cos like eveybody else I do. I'm saying the ones that aren't so valuable to me are still, in general, a better experience than fast food. Just my slant... Smile
