Portions of the service will be free, including features inspired by Facebook Inc. that will let "Call of Duty" players meet for online gun battles with others who share various affiliations and interests.
Another feature of the service will give "Call of Duty" players tools, modeled on those from stock-trading websites, to analyze their performance within the game, gauging factors such as which weapons have been most successful for them in killing enemies. |

Online play remains free (thankfully!) so it won't be like people will say "oh fuck that, I'm not buying the game".
I mean they won't lose any of their customers, what will happen is that some of them will subscribe. If 500.000 subscribe x let's say $5 x 12 months = $30M/year profit

and the mindset across the pond ( and sadly more and more everywhere else ) is that as long as they got the money they spend it, value versus price isnt rarely an issue to them. as long as its a small amount ( up to 15 bucks, basicly what they spend on a meal ) its cheap to them, best example is pets on wow, it doesnt matter its a stupid non combat pet, $3? whatever, thats nothing !
companies know that and prey on it.
