E3 2011 in Los Angeles is only a few days away and there is a lot of excitement in the air. We are thrilled to be at the expo to show you Battlefield 3! We are currently putting the final touches on our demo - testing, tweaking, and in general, creating a game that’s looking amazing. I’m very happy and proud of what our DICE team has accomplished and what we’ll be unveiling to the world at E3.

Following our Battlefield 3 announcement earlier this spring, a lot of you have asked us for more info on multiplayer. Well, wait no further – we will be showing both single player and multiplayer gameplay at E3! You can expect new trailers and screenshots as well as in-depth press previews hitting next week. You can also watch the EA press conference live on EA.com on Monday.

So what can you expect from the Battlefield 3 multiplayer? Powered by the Frostbite 2 engine, Battlefield 3 features some of the biggest and most spectacular maps that we have built. At the same time, we are also able to create more intense close-quarter combat than ever before. The multiplayer map, “Operation Métro,” available for press to play on the show floor, combines both sides of the scale into one cohesive experience. Gamers will experience a physical battlefield and be able to temporarily disable vehicles, go prone, mount weapons, lay down suppressive fire and more. Under the hood, the brand-new engine ensures cutting-edge visuals and immersion. All things combined, big and small, add up to the best Battlefield game we have ever created!

Of course there are things we will not be showing at E3, including the game’s extensive co-op campaign, the introduction of Team Death Match mode and the Battlefield 3 Battlelog web destination – featuring powerful social tools, feeds and detailed player stats. Battlelog also lets you manage your friends lists, squad up, create platoons, use voice chat and follow your friends’ progress in real-time, and more. Battlelog will be available for the monthly fee of (drum roll)... zero dollars. We look forward to providing more information on these features in the near future!

hmmm TDM mode, I don't like the sound of that. On the other hand, that battlelog stuff really interests me.

TDM can be a great addition if implemented correctly, I don't see where the problem is as long as the good old game modes will be there as well Razz

I don't know, I hate TDM (and DM/freeplay as well ) mode in most shooter games. The only games where I think it's adequate are twitch shooters like Unreal, Quake Arena, HL dm, etc.

So much post-processing and awesome music would make Tetris an interesting game. Someone should make a montage where you run for 2 miles and get shot by a sniper halfway through... 50 times.

While I agree that good editing can make anything look spectacular and something entirely different from what it really is, I'd still say that you'll never see something like that in any CoD game (released so far). Had plenty of small moments in BC2 MP that make even CoD scripted single player sequences look pale in comparison.

I'll admit my recent BC2 sessions were less engaging, but there have been plenty of great games filled with memorable "battlefield moments".

In any case, these are two quite different games and I enjoyed them both for what they are. Although I'd say I enjoyed CoD4 far more than any of the more recent installments and I am definitely much more interested in the next BF game for multiplayer.

I completely agree with you, every single word Smile

Even if BC2 is getting definitely less interesting for me as well, it still provides an immensely better experience if compared to any recent CoD. Yesterday for example I tried Black Ops MP out of curiosity (free Weekend on Steam), and had to quit&uninstall the game after a couple of matches. The gameplay is too limited and scripted for a title released in 2011, there isn't any sign of evolution in terms of game mechanics and even the performance is terrible for what the game offers (=nothing).
And MW3 looks exactly the same old hat with the brilliant addition of a monthly fee and facebook integration Laughing

The maps are so limited and linear that every single match looks identical to the previous one, like if they were "scripted" Razz

(I've always preferred MP shooters with large maps and different classes over arena shooters Smile )

Yeah...also tried the freakin free weekend. I almost forgot about all the clusterfucking that can be done in the game.

COD 4 started something beautiful but like all things beaten to death it all must come to an end. Activision should starts receiving awards for this...

Comparing MW3 to Battlefield 3 is no contest for me. Only the destructive environment alone merit a special prize...

I'd rather that happen then run for 5 seconds and find myself at the other end of the map, like CoD!

Awesome vid - makes me want to play again! Very Happy
