I don't remember when it was announced but as with Guerrilla the DX10 stuff wasn't that much of a difference, seems they're doing mostly the same effects this time.

I'm planning to upgrade for Windows 2008 which likely will mean the next-generation hardware cycle or some time after that, can't wait for things to get kickstarted once PS4 and X-box3 is out but we'll see what those do.
(Wii2 should be something with a ATI 4000 series GPU if I have it correct -r600 chip- though of course remade, even that would leap current limitations a large step forward so DX12 X-box3 or some such should allow for a lot, 6 core CPU or even 4 also helps but likely RAM will still have limits and it might be DVD discs again thus limiting available space but I have no idea of course.)

yap, the future is definitely intresting a specialy when some dev's claim that the todays hardware block their abilities and today games could look much much better. they specialy speak about this console generation, but as you said its like chais of links.
realy intersting to see how will it be in the reality.

Review is up, it sounds not too shabby in the sense that it's a solid action game, but absolutely nothing new at all. Gets a 7.

NCF's and all that.
http://www.multiupload.com/9R1CCRP0Z4

EDIT: Some initial images.

(Plays and looks more or less like Guerrilla, not much I can say this early on, visuals as high as it can go under DX9 mode - AO on low instead of high - minus AA which is kept at 2x.)

EDIT:

Completes the prologue of the story, game is starting to differ from Guerrilla though most mechanics are pretty similar still. Smile
(AO and AA does hit performance a bit but overall the engine is pretty well optimized or at least I don't notice much in terms of framerate fluctuations and stuttering, quad core though.)

Game works best (Only?) by using the launcher, exe files directly caused issues.

DX10/DX11 mode can now be utilized but they're no good for current drivers on older cards at least (DX11 with backwards compatibility.) though as the comparison showed it's mostly shadow and AO differences (higher quality and smoother.), DX9 works just fine and looks nearly identical. Smile

Don't think so. I think they've focused more on corridor gameplay style this time.

It was merely ok IMO.

Ever since Total Recall - I've had this craving for a proper Mars sci-fi game. Red Faction reminded me a lot of the atmosphere in those alien mines/caverns - but IIRC the actual game was shit.

RFG was decent and I enjoyed the destruction.

Going linear and traditional with RFA is a big mistake, imo, and they should have improved upon the freeform structure instead.

Most likely won't play this.

My favorite Mars sci-fi game is still the old Buck Rogers SSI RPG Smile

They use a bit of both, I'm not that far into the game but it's more driven and with cutscenes and story to advance the game instead of the sandbox approach of Guerrilla, however the levels are still pretty open (But there's little in the way of alternate paths.) and they are also very large with most any placed object being destructible. (Likely part of how the game is designed plus the fact you can't deform terrain limits it a bit.)

New additions are great as well with character upgrades and new toys like that magnet driven energy weapon which can create some massive destruction were you set one point and then a second (anchor) point and the first one is then drawn to the second at a high speed often bringing whole buildings and a ton of debris down with it, great against groups, really crushes and dismembers these insect looking aliens. Smile
(The settlements I passed were leveled entirely in the end, limits possible cover though, ammo isn't all that scarce usually so a more direct shoot them down approach will of course work, or a combination of them.)

EDIT: Most stuff can also be repaired again or during combat easily via a refined nano-forge unit. Smile
(Has other uses too.)
