Nope.

Don't think that the alpha is very playable though. It IS an alpha after all. It is quite buggy in most areas.

Alpha is only for those who pre-ordered the special edition, and the special edition purchase cut-off time was last night.

Didn't even get to try it last night cause servers were going ape shit.

The problem was that the majority of the servers were listen servers, and the few dedis up were constantly pounded by hundreds of connection attempts.

I'm really sad that they are starting the beta tommarrow.

I realize the game is in 'Alpha' today, but between today and tommarrow there is no way in hell the game will be 'beta' ready. All of the features aren't even in the game yet, and the game still has server crashing issues, performance issues, clipping issues..

They can call it 'beta' tommarrow all they want - But it is still going to be 'bad enough' to be considered an Alpha in my book. It is definatly going to be bad PR.

I realize they need more money, but they should just come out and *say* they need more money. Not push the game forward to 'beta' to trick more people into buying the game.

Maybe the alpha was several versions older then what they had "in-house"?

absolutely not.
what is now and what was in some days ago, its actualy the same, with more bugfixes and new bugs and the fade. period.
i still dont know why they went for the "beta" instead continuing the alpha... last alpha patch increases a bit the fps but got a nasty stutter problem: actual BETA first patch, with multiple disconnection, lag, and a moderate stutter, but the fps goes moderate up.
the only way they went for the "beta" thing, i bet was for more money in the preorder, like wasnt enough the money retrieved an year ago from me and the other fans to fund the project...

I thought you couldn't get into the beta after the alpha started?

Anyhow, I'm sure the major reason they opened the beta is cause they need more people playing/testing. I doubt too many actually played the alpha.

Just pre-ordered, been thinking about supporting Unknown Worlds ever since they started on NS2, as the first was my favorite mod for half life. Gonna give the beta or so called beta, a go tonight.

Man im pretty stoked for NS2. Had lots of good memories from NS1. Hopefully with a little more publicity they can get some more investment and maybe a bigger dev team to help remove those bugs and add in all the features that it needs.

It will be good when they go to 'real beta' not this current 'beta' which is just the alpha realistically.

Right now there are just to many issues, and the game doesn't even have all the content in it yet. It is nowhere near 'beta' right now.

I loved the first one.

I remember playing on a server with few players, I was a marine and we stuck together it was just like "Aliens".

Yesterdays patch was a HUGE improvement. The game is very playable now. Quite impressive actually. Runs great on High settings, no weird rendering errors, no connections issues anymore.

Now all they need to do is focus on broken gameplay items and balance the game. Played on a server with 6v6 going and it ran really good. Still room for improvement in the netcode and engine - But as of right now, it runs worlds better then the prior build.

Honestly, if they keep up with patches like yesterdays patch this game will be super fun to play by the end of this year with 12v12 games easily.

Big update released recently.. for anybody interested in supporting indie developers, this game could use some love. Here is the recent update e-mail.

Hey everyone,

It's been awhile since we've written, but we've been hard at work. We just released a big new update to Natural Selection 2 in the form of Build 178. We've added a new map, bloom, ARCs, a new Fade blink, phase gates and lots more. Check out the full details in this blog and video here:

http://www.unknownworlds.com/ns2/

We are a small independent game company and we rely on pre-orders to stay that way. So if you haven't pre-ordered yet and you want to support us, you can get early access to the beta here:

http://www.naturalselection2.com/buy

We hope to see you in-game!

They released a decent update this week, and, I can say, it's tremendously fun. It feels exactly like NS in a new jacket and it's only got 40% of the features in there that it will have for the end product.

My advice, well worth it. Buy it while you can still get in the beta...

i have to say i just bought it because there was a christmas deal 2 for 1.
im gonna play it anyway when it comes out, so i dont give a fuck.

anyway... just look at the e3 and all the games coming out.
they are ALL shit.
so 35 dollars (what is it? 25 euros?) for 2 copies, was pretty ok for me.
even its still beta.

Game is very playable after this latest update. Missing some stuff still, but overall very enjoyable. Decent number of players now, with 12v12 servers as well. The game will definatly be a super-playable beta come the end of this summer. Buy the game and support these guys.
