Now imagine of all the cash they spent on that shit went to MP. More maps, weapons, game mods, etc. But derp, some console derp who is afraid to stick his console to the socket or some noobcake in Russia that has not yet head of the internets might not be able to play online so lets waste cash on a "FOLLOW" campaign.
They could have made an epic (innovative) campaign, but unfortunately they decided to follow the trend of linear, scripted, CoD-alike SP experiences. The only "good" side is that a least we won't be playing MP maps with derp bots like in BF2
Anyway, 6-10 hours is twice the lenght of the typical Call of Duty , which is the only alternative available (how sad is that? )
That said, I'm mainly interested in the online part so a potentially bad campaign it isn't much of a problem for me (BC2's campaign was quite terrible -and very short- too, but I enjoyed the MP alot).
Is the Campaign still coop'able? Some of the stuff looked like it could be fun with friends.
I like to think of the SP campaign as a sort of "tutorial" for the MP experience. While often times different, it at least gives you an idea of how your character and the weapons "feel" to you and can adjust accordingly.

The original PC release of 1942 is still, and will always remain, my favorite.
Even when people on your team were trolling hard, it was still awesome and funny as shit. Anyone remember the near vertical battleships that were run aground? People driving the carriers to god knows where? Ah, I miss those times.
Can't believe they took out all the sweet humongous controllable ships from the 1943 remake... They were huge, buggy, and ridiculous, but they were so awesome.
I remember getting my hands on the original leaked Wake Island demo and practicing flying the planes, hahaha.... Alright, need to end this nostalgia trip.

I'm actually quite happy that there will be a single player campaign, and i'm neither a "console derp" or a "Russian noobcake" but a Swede with internet connectivity issues, which leads me to not being able to play anything MP for any sustained amount of time.
So instead of having a 1500€ Mahjong Titans playing machine, I too am able to get my FPS fix, simplified campaign or not.
No doubt Battlefield is a MP sentric game and that the majority of players will be buying it for the MP part alone, but I don't think that money spent developing the SP campaign is money wasted, more like catering to a wider audience. Some might say "derpified" and/or "consolified", but developing a SP campaign can be more then just bending to the norm of the current style of the gaming industry, especially in my shoes.
Sure the COD-like campaign has been done to hell and way beyond "beating a dead horse", but this one is brinnging destructability and toy dinosaurs.
And also as someone els mentioned that the SP also could be seen as an introduction/tutorial to the game mechanics. Seeing as in this day and age where shooting people through banana leaves cant even be fathomed an introduction to the games destructability might be benefitial.
To all who think BF1942 was the best, i present you the best online experience i ever had.
and it was what ended the WW2 area and brought you the middle east as new and (only) setting.
when PC gaming was made by the elite for the elite
you of course remember it being a bf1942 modification , right ?
for me, it was forgottenhope mod for 1942. Vanilla 1942 i found rather dull and fucked up.
of course i also loved CTF in Desert combat
oh i know, but to be honest i NEVER even touched vanilla, i bought the game only cause of the desert combat craze, and yes i played forgotten hope also for my WW2 fix , and EOD for my vietnam fix
Who cares about Campaign. BF3 is all about Multiplayer.
I care about the singleplayer (not much anyway ) and I don't care about the multiplayer. I found BC2's singleplayer campaign fun, a lot more fun than the 4 and 4+ CoDs, so if it's anywhere near that I will enjoy it for at least a playthrough. I wouldn't buy it for that, I know that BF was always about the multiplayer, so you could say that pirates care about the singleplayer campaign .
Nice analysis... I'd say the suits are either placeholder uniforms for now, or the objective is to stop the Russians from releasing some kind of a chemical agent.
Also if you can only be a medic by giving up the GL, then I guess there won't be medics with smoke cover, unless smoke grenades work differently now. Hopefully there won't be a shortage of medics due to people being unwilling to give up their grenade launchers.
