The key will never be changed, so you're safe on that.
@The_Leaf
Probably, I'm not sure... all I know is that it sucked.

I don't believe you'll regret it mate. LT+ will/should keep you going for a while anyhow, there are no XGD3 games yet (Gears of War 3 is supposed to be the first, if rumours are to be believe) and there's a massive back catalogue of existing titles =)

Just saw this thread... Why shouldn't you own a console? It's nothing bad in particular There are some quality games on there too. Most of us once enjoyed some of the classic NES and SNES/MegaDrive games. The problem people on the hump mostly with consoles have, is that they introduced a lot of derpity herp into games. And because of it's profitability, we pc gamers are fed with the shit that remains.
But I'd have a problem chosing the right console actually The PS3 has some amazing exclusives that I'd like to play like heavy rain and gow and the xbox 360 has it's own share of good exclusive games...
But both don't have proper full hd graphics and actually that'd be something that would put me off. I'm playing FIFA2011 on PC and recently friends came over and brought their PS3 with them, because both versions play differently. Well we attached the PS3 on my TV and I was shocked on how BAD the graphics were. Yes, you could see that they invested MUCH more time on the PS3 version ( ) yet it looked like shit, especially the low resolution was VERY visible. The XBOX360 has supposedly better frame rates, graphics and resolution in most multi platform games. But I'd probably prefer the ps3 exclusives.
Hard decision :/

Sabin, slightly off topic. So all current games on PS3 can be played? None of them require a firmware update that makes the hack obsolete?

Well, before I buy it, just a couple of questions:
1. What are the games that you recommend for X360?
2. Is there any chance PS3 gets unlocked? Are you able to run the games on it (Infamous 2? Heavy Rain?)
3. In order to play X360 games, I just need to buy a DL DVD, burn them using Nero and just put them in?

Avoid NERO at all costs use ImgBurn. Burning game is easy, just run the iso through the ABGX tool to verify it's correctly ripped, then burn with imgburn at lowest possible speed. As for DVDs: get verbs (Verbatims) they're the best.
As for games, there are too many to mention. Some of my favourites: Alan Wake, Castlevania Lords of Shadow, Vanquish, GoW2, Tales of Vesperia, Bayonetta, Ninja Gaiden 1 & 2, L.A. Noire,

1. Gears of War series, Alan Wake, Halo series, Fable...can't remember any more. PS3 has much more exclusives that aren't available on the PC
2. PS3 can be hacked as long as it's not using a newer version of the firmware. I think most games can be played straight off a portable hard drive
3. You should run them though a program called abgx360 in order for it to make any fixes that might be needed. Then burn using ImgBurn (burn the .dvd file, and not the .iso file)

I myself have xbox360
1:
http://www.metacritic.com/browse/games/release-date/available/xbox360/metascore?view=condensed
personally I would recommend Gears of War2, Crackdown, First Dead Rising and offcourse The Darkness, Halo Reach, Alan Wake, Enslaved(its also on ps3), Red Dead redemption and L.A noire (which are also on ps3)
basicly it comes to what You want. Some of games that are avaible on pc and consoles are way more playable on consoles so count that in.
ps3 have Uncharted series, God of War, Killzone and heavy rain.
2.PS3 is unlocked! You can play all of its games from hdd. Simple and fast (what Ive heard, I dont have ps3). The future is unknown bvecouse above 3.60 (or so) games are not yet playable.
3. In order to play 360 games You have to scan image disc with abgx360 software and then burn f.e with imgbur to normal dl disc with normal burner.... BUT FIRST You have to flash Your drive firmware. It shouldnt cost much for someone to do it for You.
Overall I think that Xbox360 is more accesable but thats only my opinion. You should look at what exclusives You mainly want to play

Sadly no, there are a bunch of games with requirements for FW3.60 that haven't yet been made playable. Any game with FW3.60 reqs is immediately unplayable on 3.55 or otherwise ... the only way it's playable is if the developer puts out a game update that has been signed with 3.50/3.55. Those are becoming increasingly rare- and Sony are rectifying it too. DNF EU has a 3.50 update, but DNF US doesn't - its update is 3.60. There are still a few games that are unplayable on less than 3.60 as there aren't any 3.55 updates out for them.
Pretty soon we're going to need a 3.60 MFW/CFW solution, otherwise kiss goodbye to playing new games.

@Neon: if he's flashed the key on his pc, what he should give you is a backup of the following registry key with all it's contents:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\JF_KeyDB
Alternatively, you can make due with just the key (32-characters-long string) or a dump of the original firmware (Lite-OFW.bin if I'm not mistaken, but I'm not 100% positive this contains the key). |
DUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUDE, I FUCKING LOVE YOU!!!!
I checked my registry and saw the key backup for both my drive and Deelix's drive too You are a fucking GOD!!!! Why didn't ANYONE else mention checking the registry?? I've bitched about misplacing my key DOZENS of times and NOBODY said "check JF_KeyDB in the registry"
YOU'RE A FUCKING SAINT!

That's not an adapter, the x360 uses usb as well -- that thing on the cord is so you don't drag your x360/pc off the desk/whatever_surface_it's_on when or if you pull the cable to hard or if someone passes by and hocks the cable; it will just disconnect from that spot on the cord instead.
Other than the package, they're basically one and the same. The x360 controller for Windows is a x360 controller with Windows drivers.

Oh, another question- what if the GAME asks for an update? Not the XBOX dashboard or whatever, but the game itself? Is it OK to download it?

no. You will have to decline that update. At least if You are talking about newest update. We still waiting for new firmware to be released. But as for now - There is no game with that new update included so we are safe

No no, what I mean is- let's say Rockstar releases a patch for LA Noire- can I download the patch? Or should I not connect X360 to the internet at all to be safe?

I wouldnt recommend connecting to xbl becouse You might get banned anytime (Ant this resoluts in unability to save and install games among other things)
Offcourse there are other means to apply patches to games OFFLINe.
I am using those methods and it works perfectly

YOu just need any usb stick for this

with a PS3 slim being priced at 250 euros , see it as a quality bluray player since they are around 110-120 if you want a quality player just for the sake of bluray.
has better exclusives, free multiplayer etc

@Neon
Unlike the PS3 and PSN, you won't get prompted for game updates unless you are signed into XBL .. which brings back to the whole "you'll have to reflash the drive if you update the system on XBL"
@KillerCrocker
That's not true, it hasn't been true for a while now. MS no longer disable HDD/game installing options if they ban you.

No access to xbl/xbla and profile/saves show as corrupted on non banned consoles. As far as I know.
Neon wrote: | So I can't update the GAME unless I update the dashboard, right? |
Nope, title updates (game updates are called title updates ) are safe as far as I know. Only dash updates are not safe until confirmed otherwise.
In regards to title updates, you don't even have to update/dld them from xbl, you can dld them from other sites an put them on a x360 configured usb stick, and insert that stick in the x360 while playing the game. Or you can up them to your x360 hdd, but that's a bit of a hassle.
But, like everyone else said, if you don't need xbl, with a flashed console you are better of not using it.
