Yes, but Netshow's release doesn't have a proper setup, that's the reason why Skidrow repacked it.
Instead if you buy it from Origin you have the usual EA setup. |
Ah, now I get what you're saying. Yes, I agree it's very likely they decided to repack Netshow's already available release, instead of buying it themselves and distributing the original setup files (if this is possible to do, as you say).

So i don't have to delete some files of the crack of skidrow?

==================================
To disable the 30fps frame limitation edit the file AliceEngine.ini, you can find it in:
C:\Users\NAME\Documents\My Games\Alice Madness Returns\AliceGame\Config\
change the value MaxSmoothedFrameRate to the framerate you want, from now on the fps will be limited from the video refresh rate of your monitor. To see the changes InGame, just rotate the camera.
If it is not enough for you, change UseVsync from True to False. |
Is that solution better then this one?
Disable capped 30fps:
In file AliceEngine.ini change bSmoothFrameRate=TRUE to FALSE

I don't know if it's the same problem, but the game still crashes for me, only now it's the usual "stopped working" message when it crashes.

First game I will have pirated in a while due to EA's homo Origin. Can't purchase the game as i'm stationed overseas. Steam has a workaround, origin don't. Shame, because this game diserves the money.

http://tinyurl.com/64p7utp mentions turning off background streaming wouldhelp occasional stutter. Though with me it also causes the loading screen to 'freeze' for a bit, probably because it's loading the full map content or something.
All in all the game gets better after you tweak the ini. Pretty bad, having PC games released as console ports...

It worked for me after i changed the corresponding button and reset the controls a few times, then finally restarted the game. But it works only while focusing so you have to hold CapsLock before pressing E in some cases. |
did this but every time i reset to deafults even if i wrote a letter in the default file, the game leaves the umbrella block as blank, and if i assign the letter i wrote in the file or give a new one it doesn't work

Steam added an id for it today, so it seems that it'll come..... eventually.
Could this be EA's new tactic? Release games on Steam only after a few weeks/months have passed?

I haven't changed the ini file to have the DLC and when I go to "equip" I do have everything except the hobby horse and teapot cannon. I grabbed the Skidrow release and have installed the Theta crack.
Any confirmation on this and if true, does the DLC add those two missing weapons?

The DLC weapons are variations on the normal weapons so you cannot equip them till you find the originals.

Am I the only one who finds the game better looking without all the post processing effects? I turned off some of the annoying ones from the ini, but it still looks better without all of them. It looks a lot like the first game this way, only more detailed of course.

I dont know why developers lump a bunch of graphical effects into something called post processing. Sometimes it includes motion blur, HDR, and depth of field, other times, just depth of field... it depends on the game. I dunno. Most of the time it draws your attention away from the low-res console textures, which can be a plus. Other times it just hurts your eyes!

Technically, it is called "post-processing" because it is done in "post", meaning in the pixel shader, where doing that stuff is relatively cheap. These effects became very popular with this generation of consoles because developers used them, at first, to try and compensate for sub-par models and textures. As usual with the console tardos, this has now become a necessity in order for a game to be "next-gen", "cinematic experience" and so on.

Many UE3-powered titles suffer of mouse problems, especially the bad ports. I haven't played the game yet but I bet that it's much better with a gamepad..

It is. And since it's a platformer it's not a bad input device.

UE3 has always been shit for the 'feel' IMO.
That said, don't expect a platformer to work correctly without a gamepad. I'm really sick of hearing a vocal minority of PC gamers who claim to be 'hardcore' and bitching about 3rd person games not working 'right' with mouse+keyboard. If you were 'hardcore' you'd buy a fucking $10 gamepad to play the game with the input method it was designed for. It's equivelant to playing a FPS with a gamepad and saying the control method blows. No shit. FPS's work better with mouse+keyboard.

Then they should have implemented support for all gamepads, at least, if not proper support for keyboard + mouse. I would refuse a 360derppad even if someone would give me one for free, so you can imagine I don't have one... and no, I don't want to install any program to recognize mine as one.

Then blame yourself. Why in the hell would you /not/ want to use the 360 gamepad? It's by far the best gamepad available, and realistically ever made.
It's like saying you don't want to use a joystick in a fucking flight simulator. The only person to blame is yourself.

So I should blame myself because developers these days are too dumb and assume that everyone should play their games with a 360derppad because some think it's the best? Right...

I have a 360 controller myself too since it's practically mandatory for sports, driving and platform games; it's quite cheap and well-supported, so I don't regret my purchase (even though I rarely use it).

What's the so great about the 360 controller? It's still based on the old Playstation 1 controller design that all gamepads use ever since.
Anyway, installing game now. Loved first Alice, hope this lives up to it.

The best input method for 3rd person platformers is a gamepad. I don't just 'think' that, it isn't just 'my opinion'; It's a fucking fact.
