Anyone know if it's integrated on-die as a separate processor or did they just integrate the circuitry into an existing GPU?

Neither. They rewrote PhysX to use the card's programmable shader units via CUDA. No hardware transitioned from Ageia's PPUs.

So it's a software implementation and they basically just use the Physx brand-name. Kinda curious as to how they've got the shader units doing physics calculations when they mainly handle texturing and lighting processes, but I'm not really a hardware guy. I only have a rudimentary knowledge of how all that crap works from a few years experience with Maya.
Any idea as to why it seems games like Alice have so much trouble rendering particle physics when I can run numerous particle simulations concurrently with destructible objects in Maya in real-time with my 5850 just fine? Some issue with the game engine preferring to work with PhysX and just having terrible native physics instructions or something?

So the Netshow's release is a backup of the file content dowloaded by Origin in "C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\Alice Madness Returns(TM)" while Skidrow's release is a repack with homemade installer of the same files.

Can you please compare (and post the results) Game\Alice2\AliceGame\CookedPC\Maps\Chapters\Chapter2\Chapter2_W1\Chapter2_W1_Bottle1_01_S.umap file you downloaded from Origin with the one from the SKIDROW release or any of the Chinese releases (I mean compare using "fc /b" command)? Also, which of the pictures below Origin has downloaded as Game\Alice2\Engine\Splash\PC\Splash.bmp file?

Are you daft? It's not a platformer but that type of view/control is everything you need for a third person action or platform game.
And it was even used in Alice 1 since you seem to want really specific examples.

K, have fun using a gamepad for driving games.

actually I cant drive with analog gamepad to save my life...racing games with keyboard I can do well, usually beating my friends..give me a controller, I hit walls, spin out, crash..

I think its from years of growing up with SNES and f-zero. you want to turn hard..hold it down, the tap speed of the key determines how much you steer. tap fast you get a tighter turn..slower you turn a little.

Ive tried for years to "get use to" an analog thumbstick for steering..I cant do it.

So an FPS tweaked to use a third person camera proves third person platform games play better with kb and mouse? "Are you daft?" Razz

Controls were far from ideal in Alice 1, when jumping from platform to platform etc, and yes I'm replaying it right now.

It was no tweak, just moved camera behind your model. The tweaks are what break the mouse control, all the shit restrictions and forced movements of camera because gamepads aren't capable of properly controlling it.

Did anybody find out if it is possible to gain support for 4:3 resolutions by tweaking the .ini configuration files ?? I tried it myself but found no solution so far. Would be nice if you could activate support like in Dungeon Siege 3 by editing a ini-file. The bad thing is you cannot even choose resolutions for different aspect ratios (like in Witcher 2 to make the black bars at least smaller....); the game does not allow any other viewing than super-cinemascope on a 4:3 screen ... bah Sad

These are the only files that have a different CRC comparing Skidrow's release with my Origin download.

I can't compare with Netshow's release, I already deleted it.

Try opening AliceInput.ini and change benablemousesmoothing to false. I haven't tried it myself but I've heard people talk about that setting with other games.

Hmm no, still a bit sluggish, kinda reminds me of Dead Space. Makes the platforming somewhat annoying.

however I got the same result with the 470 calculating the physx, 60 -> 25-30 fps

starting to wonder if it's the physx that are causing trouble or the fact that the cloud puffs are perhaps too detailed (volumetric or something?...)

Alright, here are some screenshots from the first real 'level'. I'm *really* *really* impressed with the game thus far. The graphics are stunning IMO. The screenshots don't do as much justice. In the 5th screenshot you'll see some of the liquid effect.

I'm very much impressed with the combat in this game as well. Much better then Alice 1. Alice 1 was a great game and all, but the combat in it was never some special. The combat in this game honestly reminds me a bit of Batman:AA or Zeno Clash.

Anyways, enjoy. In motion the game looks outstanding. Note that I have an E8400/GTX470 and the game runs fluid with max settings.

Ok, so it seems that one of the game files in SKIDROW release is corrupt (Game\Alice2\AliceGame\CookedPC\Maps\Chapters\Chapter2\Chapter2_W1\Chapter2_W1_Bottle1_01_S.umap) - it has 1 byte difference with the same file in 3 other releases (3DMGAME-Alice.Madness.Returns.Multi6.CloneDVD, Alice.Madness.Returns.NETSHOW-ALI213.NET and Alice.Madness.Returns.v1.0.multi6.cracked-THETA) and Origin download.

Also, THETA's is the only release so far which seems to be a genuine retail DVD image of the game (which is a pleasant surprise taking into account THETA's history of making repacks with self-made installers in their previous releases).

so does this mean this level is corrupt ? and the game will crash at that point even with the Theta crack ? if so it would be swell if by some means this file would magically appear ... somewhere
