Dont like the "Loose 1 teammate to death and its game over"

Kinda getting a feeling this will be abused alot.

yeah when i read about that in the game, i instantly knew that that multiplayer game mode wouldnt be much fun for very long. its the l4d scenario.. when someone can just fuck you over and ruin everyones game just for fun.. and theres always people who will do that (and no, not me.. bastards Very Happy)

i mean the concept sounds pretty cool in practice, but thats the problem.. i dont think the devs have thought it through from the point of griefing... heres hoping it does have a solid ban system in place...

anyway... im still looking forward to this game, even if the visuals arent the hottest, or the gameplay is a little too derp consolised or whatever. i mean the first game was fun, and the second was a nice little diversion, so yeah.. me actually do want this.

Some random comment said a preview build leaked, I have no idea though but I'll probably find out shortly.
(Right when I bought it if so, funny but gives time to cancel if it turns out to be horrible, that said at 60% off from normal price I'll probably let it be - Gamersgate really had a gap between SE and UK site at over 50% difference plus the game has a 10% off pre-order promo so I got it for just under 200 SEK compared to normal game prices around 549 to 649 SEK for digital distribution purchases.)

EDIT: That was easy.

EDIT: Hah it's that hack stuff from Deus Ex 3 via a Skidrow generic loader.

I have no idea but I guess there's some security issues that certain companies will have to look over now with this happening.
(Steam again though that's vague so maybe the same guy?, then again it doesn't have to be but it's likely the same cracker as it's exactly the same concept as for Deus Ex 3 preview.)

Will be interesting to see what this game does and how much of it there is.

Or maybe they've started a new extreme demo release method to both get user feedback and blame piracy. Razz

Anyway time to see how the game is, healthy baby or messy abortion. Very Happy
(Ok so that was a twisted FEAR2 reference but I wonder how they'll explain that part.)

Right the build is dated June 1st (So it's theoretically just days away from Gold if not Gold already as it ships on the 21st this month - next week - according to Steam and Gamersgate.)

Decent list of options though I disabled some extras like aim assist and usb controller support.

FRAPS shows up with a blue hue in the game whatever that means but it's harmless or so it seems.
(DX11 bug?, does this game do DX11?)

AA supports 2x, 4x and FXAA as the default choice (I guess it's "lowest" in quality outside of disabling it.)

EDIT: Screens.
 Spoiler:

EDIT: Some comment added.

EDIT: Another comment.

EDIT: Yay forced scares.
(Though how to be afraid of a tiny little kid? , especially when used as a pop-up gimmick.)

EDIT: Yay I died in one second when a burst fire SMG round hit me in the head or something, I really need to study cover mechanics and use the reflex stuff (It doesn't recharge automatically and I wasted it by fooling around.) but on the other hand the game provides a challenge even on Recruit, FEARless should be fun. Cool! please if possible let us know if it's the whole game. I've been holding on the witcher 2 so I can play this game first as it should be a lot shorter.

I am pretty sure it is, nothing hints at it being a specific preview or beta but it might not be the final version, though maybe if it's a review copy.

Likely even so there will be the usual Steam 0-day patch fixing whatever they found.

Anyway it's midnight now and so the US peeps should be able to tell more (I can't be the only one here playing? of course there's other boards like cs.rin for more info though I haven't browsed them myself so I don't know if I'm just repeating stuff already mentioned.)

I don't hate it though I'm surprised it offers a challenge actually plus it runs great (But looks dated.) offers a decent set of customization options and you can disable stuff like aim assist, MP likely won't work but maybe someone will hack it in even with this build. Very Happy

Can't comment on story or anything, weird seeing the characters like this (I'm trying not to spoil anything though.) it's more of a action movie experience or what to call it definitively and the semi cheap enforced scares are a bit gimmicky but FEAR1 also had those to a degree.

Overall the first fifteen minutes have been OK, some hand-holding of course (Your gun even changes targeting color along with your crosshair, helped me recognized a guy I melee hit wasn't fully dead though.)

No complaints this far aside from a few quirks mentioned here and in the above post, definitively worth a try at least. Smile
(Though it could suck arse later on for all I know, haha!.)

Weird direction for the franchise but not unexpected seeing Fear 2, overall we'll see what happens later on in the game but it might work out well as a budget priced (Really budget at the discount stuff I mentioned earlier.) FPS but if it restores or brings back the FEAR1 tension I can't say, so far it feels different and more like Fear2 but again I'm just fifteen or so minutes in at most.
(And why does one have to hold down the use button and guess other bindings, still I'm learning stuff like vaulting, cover mechanics and so on so It's getting better.)

EDIT: I tend to be fairly positive and easy going though, could be completely different from another persons perspective (Likely it will be for the more serious people on this forum, or what I'm supposed to say, I tend to get along with how stuff changes and happens without much of a opinion or comment most of the time.) hell it might even have those QTE's later on and other on the rails segments for all I know (I think I mentioned that stuff already though.)

I'll know tomorrow as I resume the game, will be interesting to read other comments also. Smile
(Still it'll likely be the usually - though often valid if a bit overly clarified - comments and opinions and complaints, which isn't bad minus the smiley stuff going on lately, that pear and troll emote mean so much depending on usage, hah what does it matter anyway I'm too tired to think coherently it seems.)

EDIT: Damn I forgot about one thing, I can always check the required disc space specifications, this here is about 4 GB (English only though but compressed in that archive.) so if the game needs 15~ or so GB it's obviously just a preview version, not a bad way to test it though and get a first opinion still Smile
(And if it's a port-over at best then it might be the full game still, visuals don't look all that hot and there's only one language after all.)

EDIT: Must be a preview actually, required is 10 GB (Say ~8 or so for the game itself then.) anyway it's a demo then. Smile
(It's technically a "shareware" with the first episode free isn't it? perhaps we'll see a return to that 90's promo method after all, heh of course not.)

EDIT: But just how long, if it shares art asset and such it might be just a few levels or it might be longer, I'd guess it's nowhere over halfway however, perhaps one third here also?
(First boss fight maybe.)

I like the game so far. Did encounter a bug where the slow mo meter and health stop regenerating. Restarting the game fixed that. Hopefully will be fixed in the retail. With the release so close I'm gonna try to stay away from this prelease as much as possible. First impressions are that it's allright for a fear game.

The game is not locked at 30fps. I'm getting around 45-65 fps.

I'm liking the game so far (the few bits I've played anyway), I can't comment about the plot quality yet but I'm really digging the gameplay. There's a first-person cover system which works quite well, not perfect, but it's useful in the game, mainly if you play in the hardest difficulty (Fearless). As it was said, there are a couple of bugs that so far dissapeared after I restarted, there could be more of them though, I guess I'll know soon.

Can't comment on that yet. Alma already appeared to me in a quick vision, and it wasn't particularly scary, maybe because it was much alike her sudden appearances in the previous games. We'll have to wait and see.

About the graphics, if I didn't comment on them in my previous post it's cause I think they're ok, I mean they don't distract me away from gameplay. But I'll leave the judgement about them to my fellow humpers Cool Face

Graphics in F.E.A.R. 2 didn't impress me at all, they were correct but also generic imho. Graphics in this game are just a different style, quality is generally not better than F.E.A.R 1/2.

By the way, I took the time to check the textures and indeed they lack a lot of sharpness, not good by today standards, but they seem to blend very well with the art-style in the game. Maybe that's the reason they don't annoy me unless I stop to admire.

For the first door hold the middle-mouse button, for the second door and all other usable objects hold E, for cover and all other places like that it appears hold space to cover/lean. Smile

EDIT: To answer the question the icon is spacebar and signifies usable cover.
(But also shows up for usable objects now and again.)

Also AA is killing my PC in this game...preview build I know Razz

I'm also getting the "memory full" message which seem to be the trigger to the no health/slow-mo regen bug. You have to quit the game completely and launch it again to get rid of it.

I like what i've seen so far untill i received this memory full message.
The graphics are rather good and it runs smooth with the highest settings.
Yea I started off on the highest difficulty looking what to expect, and I was actually surprised.
The difficulty seems good with engaging enemys and taking advantage of the cover system theirselfs, Ala F.E.A.R.
I got whacked like three times in this short playthrough, Good to me Smile

Gonna test it some more later.

Seems that damage taken (Death by two to three hits.) and the time it takes to kill enemies (A clip or so including multiple headshots at times.) might also be a result of that bug (And other stuff mentioned earlier in this thread like that memory issue and the screen prompts.)

Unfortunate if true as I had liked the game to be seriously challenging and then near impossible at higher difficulty levels. Very Happy

I´m really enjoying the game, it´s so much better than I expected. gunplay is solid, gfx are more than fine considering how awful the trailers looked and the AI is quite challenging.
