Who really cares about these generic turds that publishing corporations push outta their scab encrusted assholes with depressing regularity. In a coupla weeks F.E.A.R. #57 will be cold & flyblown - still stinking, though down off the wall & outta the window of the gameshop, now shoved into a corner of the bargain bin.
The quest for instant gratification is an ugly business, never more so when it is thwarted by the banal.
Someone with more spare time than taste will 'crack' the thing - prolly within days. Then this thread can become one more respository for whines of adolescent disappointment.
Must be fuckin googolbytes of that here by now.
Since there is nothin better on offer this morning I think I'll spend the day following Alice's psychosis.
Yes it is a pity that f.e.a.r. never realised the promise of the first game, but you get that, no need to be a party to the final degradation. After this I fear there will be no more f.e.a.r - surely a good thing.
Quality sci-fi shooters can be a minor wonder & are sorely missed , but done poorly, turned into formulaic trash, sci fi shooters are as loathsome as other greed driven drivel.

Can't say for sure but the cutscenes uses black borders though the main game seems fine but I don't know the FoV and aspect ratio in detail unfortunately.

Isn't that just the beta files again (The Duke Forever Skidrow crack with slight changes.) and wouldn't it cause the same errors? (Extreme difficulty, incorrect level progress and save progress and all that.)

EDIT: Or do you mean the decryption key?
(It was out about 30 seconds or so before your post, seems you're pretty quick. Razz )

EDIT: And after scanning there's no binaries on the disc image as expected.

It's probably a patch trying to prevent 0-day piracy. Like in The Witcher 2's case, for instance.

Perhaps though it's not updating the Steam_*.dll files which are part of the copy protection and it doesn't just update the exe either as this update also has a separate patch archive file and a replacement boot file so there has to be more to it. Smile

The game has got somewhat favorable reviews so far.

CCC, IGN, GamePro, Gamer Limit have all given it the same score: 4/5

I don't think I'll like it that much, but at least it seems it's not broken (after so many delays I was worried about that).

No way that happens with the retail legit game.

Only if you are stupid to use some stupid "crack".

Yup, it's a crack issue. The difficulty stuff is a protection trigger.

EDIT: Well it no longer sees my beta saves so it's something. Now lets see about those triggers...

Well the comments says it works but it might still have those triggers since none of them have made it very far into the game itself.

EDIT: Version number is identical to the patch build f.e.a.r.3.exe so that might be useful to download. Smile

EDIT: Right, better do this also before people ask for links.

The reason it doesn't see the beta files (And resets game options, not global graphics options and such though but you might want to re-enable subtitles and change game type from open to closed.) is that they changed the .dll and (or?) file location.

C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Local\ALI213\21100

From

C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Local\SKIDROW\21100

(Global options being under "C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Day 1 Studios\FEAR3" and can open in notepad if needed but likely needs hex editor to change anything, by the way I looked that up after the discussion and yes it's Day1 and not Monolith as Consolitis said, as per the FEAR3 release announcement which they did.)
