The Stand is awesome even though it becomes a bit religious throughout. Post-apocalyptic masterpiece. Wink

I'd give anything to see a proper Stephen King version of the Running Man. Have you read the book Chiv? It's radically different to the film .. and very, very good. Much like the Stephen King remake of "The Shining" - I'd love him to go back and remake The Running Man as faithful as the book.

Most SK filmatizations are pretty terrible tbh, but I'd still say worth a watch if you liked the novels. Odd that that collection doesn't have The Shawshank Redemption or The Green Mile tho. Scratch Head

Agreed! "Misery" was very well-done too, with excellent performances and great tension Smile

"Misery" is one of my favorite Stephen King motion picture adaptions alongside "It" and "The Shawshank Redemption".

Yes, very much so. Kubrick's version was a great horror, a classic, but it was NOT faithful to the book. I much prefer King's version - which was practically identical to the book in every way. It was a lot more indepth, horrifying and poignant, explaining a lot of what was going on, rather than just throwing a family into a hotel and letting them deal with Jack going insane for barely-explained reason.

Isn't the King version a mini-series? It sure is in-depth all right. But sabin come on.. the ending.. it's sooo cheesy! You know what I mean. When the

Sure, Kubrick's version wasn't very faithful to the book, but infidelity trumps rape! Wink

King spent a decade (and more) moaning about how The Shining fucked up his story, especially the ending (and it did, that's not to say its not a good film though) and when he had the chance to make a version himself he went and changed the ending.

From that moment forward I decided that he not only writes overlong books, that are hit and miss (when the payoff works at the end its worth it, but more often than not you end up rolling your eyes) he also speaks a lot of shit.

There is a rule with King's films and TV mini-series, if he had something to do with it either in screenplay or production it will be shit, if he stayed well clear then there is the off chance it may be ok.

I beg to differ.

I will admit though, I went into it bias because I detested the book.

It's an adaptation of originally danish tv series, not King's own work.

This. Recently reread the book and it's soo much better.
Though I have to admit the whole time I was reading it I pictured the protagonist looking like Schwarzenegger grinhurt

This! Naturally I first read the book *after* I'd seen the movie, so I pictured the protagonist exactly as he was in the movie. I was shocked when Killian turned out to be black too Very Happy Though IMO the story and setting was infinitely better than the movie ... not that the movie was bad by any means.

Agreed

about the movies can be a bit terrible, Some look quite low budget to me but I really like the novels. Plus I think it makes a difference for me that they are so dated. Kinda nostalgic with the soundtrack and Molly Ringwald. When Molly puts her head on that character geeky Harolds lab and the music played on the record player...I forgot what those song were but I was young when that song came out.

There is a few missing. Shawshank and Green mile were 2 of my favorites books. Saw the movies a while ago, prob grab them at some point.

Dark Towers is I think coming out this year. I am really curious on how they are going to do it, and what the budget is going to look like. Going to google that.

Right now I am watching Rose Red, haven't read that one. Going to finish it tonight but so far I am enjoying it and it is newer. They have cell phones.

I forgot the guy was black in the book, haven't read it in 10 yrs. They should of screened a black guy. I HATE it when they deviate too much from the characters personalities too much because Stephen really developes his characters so well, and in such a seemingly simple way. He pulls me in because I am interested, I wanna read more.

i thought i read the DT movie was backburnered for the foreseeable future because they were nervous about the budget/economic conditions or the story or whatever... is that not still the case?

I do want to re-read it, but I cant find my copy.

I read it about 7 years ago and just found it dull and over-long, with shed loads of unnecessary padding (although that is a criticism I would level at a lot of King's books)

I do find King's stuff to be vastly over-rated, when he gets it right I can look past the padding, but more often than not the endings fall flat for me, and that was the case with The Stand. I have no issues with a book being 700+ pages and having a slow build up, if the ending is worth it, and I just didnt find The Stand worth it.

By the time I was nearing the end I was just reading it so I could at least say, yeah I have read that, a few times I have got bored half way though with it and then gone back to it, starting again etc..

I will read it again at some point and maybe my opinion will have changed with the years that have passed, but as I can pick the same fault with 70% of his books I doubt it.
