Yeah, I run it when I'm online and are playing it.
If we get some people that are interested in playing in it, perhaps we could say an approximate time when people will want to play.
Yes, yes I'm back.
Somewhat.

| AFAICT yes. Just that the more fancier mods, like ACE are not playable for free copies. although...I was able to play on one of the Chernaus Life servers without problem. So who knows. It's supposed to be beta still.

so arma now has a level grind? can not ever remember that rubish..... | Coop servers somtimes feature a ranking system (was the same in ARMA1). As you kill enemies, more and more options open up, like new vehicles, recruitable AI soldiers, new weapons, off-map fire support, etc. So a newb won't come in, grab a plane and crash it into your chopper because he's a retard. He has to work to be able to shof off his retardedness.

So, we're playing Evo~Blue v.3.8 [OOPS EDIT], it is Evolution mod, so basically you start out in an airstrip with every vehicle in the game and access to every weapon in the game (hundreds), however these unlock based upon your performance. Everything plays out on the Chernarus map, and you have to conquer the island starting with the nearest town.
The town is littered with hostiles with AA, tanks, infantry, et cetera and they're getting resupplied through air drops. They sometimes fly over the allied base, but the home base is usually safe. Capturing the entire island will take days of gameplay. We spent about 5 hours not capturing the nearest town, so expect it to be very difficult. Some guys who joined in thought it would be your standard BF2 thing where you can run around, take a couple of hits, re-heal et cetera. Most oftenly if you get hit once, you die. In other cases when you're wounded you can only crawl (you have a limited supply of bandages tho).
There is a rank system in place, after 10 points/kills you get promoted to the rank of Corporal which gives you access to a few friendly AI in your squad, but also you get access to more vehicles and weaponry. The highest rank in the game is colonel, for that you need about 400 points/kills. Then you have access to 12 AI troops, all vehicles (like 60?) and all weapons (100?).
To make things simpler you have repair vehicles, and a Mobile HQ (MHQ) that you can ~teleport~ to. The distance to the first town is 2000m, and that takes awhile to get to, which can be a bit boring. You ~teleport~ to the MHQ by clicking on the american flag at the base. Oh yeah, someone needs to move the MHQ to some place before... otherwise you just end up back at the base :S
The action is immense in this one and it is a lot of fun after you understand that you can't just open fire/draw aggro senselessly. Basically you have to engage/disengage move between covers, use cover. If you don't do this, you will end up like a couple of guys that joined that just kept dying all the time and getting no kills. Basically running around in open areas and shooting with full auto. Those dudes logged pretty quickly.
I run the server when I'm on (so it's not static), and it's called 'fisk of Sweden', I will play this a lot over the weekend, so expect it up :]
(Did I mention that it is literally impossible to do this alone, so more duders helping out/playing is needed
Yes, yes I'm back.
Somewhat.

Yeah, I think I'm going to buy the full game with the two expansions as I'm having so much fun with this game. I remember getting it upon release and it being such a bug infested piece of crap that I dropped it. Now it's awesome.
Unfortunately if I do that, I will prevent my fellow humpers from playing :S

Patches did fix a lot indeed. So wait, Free players can't join a server hosted with legit game? But legit owners can join free hosted servers? o.o

But what does it matter. The problem is the game. Arma2 ran fine (at least decently playable FPS wise) when it was released but this Arma4free version is unplayable on my pc.

Quote: | Q: Is Arma 2 Free compatible in multiplayer with Arma 2?
A: Arma 2 Free can host and join multiplayer games fully compatible with the original Arma 2, as long as no user addons and modifications are present. Note that Arma 2: Combined Operations / Operation Arrowhead / Reinforcements are using different newer version of the engine and are not compatible. |

This game is a lot more complex that OFP was... especially on co-op servers, how the hell do you know what you're supposed to do?

if only there werent so many shitty missions, the game has so much potential.
Most frustrating is organizing an airlift for 20 people, we finally arrive finding out someone bombed the shit out of the town we needed to clear.
or the enemy doesnt shoot back, or you can drive a vehicle for more than 5 seconds cause AI air bombs you from miles away.
basicly stay away from the common domination missions that every server seems to run.... there are tons of custom missions , co op and pvp, in so many flavors and styles you are bound to find really fun ones. and most dont require any other mods and were made and some still are for arma 2 vanilla.
I personally can only urge to buy the game + operation arrowhead, arrowhead was not only an expansion pack with an afghanistan like setting but it also gave alot of engine improvements and new features.
thats why so few people at first hand seem to play arma 2 vanilla , most ppl play operation arrowhead, and if you also have arma 2 the 2 games combine and you can use chernassus and all those russian weapons etc in operation arrowhead.
whatever happens, its not easy to get into, its only cause of the potential that i endured all the frustration of fucked up missions and overpowered / underpowered AI.
Anyway, for those who got operation arrowhead + arma 2 , you can find the on the WASP warfare server bitching about noobs wanting to fly choppers on a daily basis
