It's more of a "most popular games" list. When considered that way, the list makes sense.

It's not a bad list, if it was unordered.

Well you still did not call a game that should replace mass effect 2 in that list, so basically you say mass effect 2 deserved it because otherwise you would name one Rolling Eyes

Well considering your absolutely ridiculous blanket statement of "Mass Effect 1 and Mass Effect 2 do have the better stories than all other games" then I'm afraid any breath from me would be utterly wasted, so I'll not even bother. You believe ME1 and ME2 have the bestest stories evah and I disagree. Let's just leave it at that.

Well I haven't played it and I normally love Super Mario games but I've read everywhere that Super Mario Galaxy is a "genius game". It has to be extremely good to beat Arkham Asylum though.

If the list would have been called:

"100 TOP modern games"

instead of

"The Top 100 Modern Games Countdown"

... all would have been ok. But it's all about marketing and publicity. That "Countdown" term stirs the masses and IGN gets even more fame. It's obviously intentional.
_______

Also, bear in mind, it's quite obvious also that it's IMPOSSIBLE to create a top list of games that can please everyone. Heck, it's HARD to create a top list games for oneself too.

But yea, I doubt IGN wants to put games in their rightfully place (The Witcher 2 palce 75, no Penumbra games, no Amnesia... ?!). It's just traffic ranking, in the end. That's all that matters now.

Off the top of my head, Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines. Hell - the Alpha Protocol - the godawful, bug-ridden mess has a better story than Mass Effect 2. It's a fun ride, sure I'll give it that - but that in no way makes it a game with a good story.

Halo: Reach or Bioshock? better than HL2 or Starcraft 2?

NEGRO PUH-LEAZE.

And #1 is complete and utter derp, the only thing that game had going was story and Garrus.

Fuck yeah, Bloodlines had a great story - and the game itself literally dripped atmosphere. I'm not saying ME series had bad stories, quite the opposite in fact as the story in ME2 was the only thing that kept me going through that streamlined clusterfuck, I just strenuously oppose the notion that they have the best stories "evah" and are better than any game over the last decade.

StarCraft 2 is the only game i would say that can replace mass effect 2. But i disagree with those 3 titles.

You don't have to stop, you're certainly not Boundle-levels of silliness Very Happy As you can no doubt tell from both mine and Leo's posts, despite our rage and annoyance at the streamlining, we both really enjoyed ME2. The story and atmosphere were great .. we, or rather I at least, just disagree that it's worthy of being called "best story ever"

Wink

Truth be known, I actually consider the FF series (specifically 6 onwards; VI, VIII, X, IX, VII) to have some of my favourite stories. That's not a very popular or even shared opinion on these boards, so I generally keep it to myself

I had a shit computer and stopped playing mass effect one.

Thus I never touched Mass Effect 2, even know that I have a machine that could handle it.

Is it worth it? Is it really that good? (ok I get that is not #1 worth, but is it a game that should not be skipped?)

No, go straight to ME2 ... that way your dulled memory of ME1 won't make your play of ME2 feel worse for the streamlining Laughing I do recommend you get your old save-game though, or download a new one if you don't have yours, since ME2 bases *some* things on events from the first game -- plus you get a fuckton of free supplies as well.

Wouldn't feel that like... cheating? ^_^ And I didn't play that much of Mass Effect... I remember getting of the planet, that was like right in the beginning... and there was a shootout in a space bar and I went in there with 2-3 people... puh. Should be right at the beginning too Very Happy
