^ If you mean Namco, no you don't.
Also: repost.

Because Namco won't develop The Witcher 3; CDPR will.

I don't call my PC derpbox, but if that's how you call yours, ok.

Removing the DRM was an evil move that must be punished! It hurt both the gamers and the sales, increasing piracy!

Well a process isn't exactly what they need now, patches for W2, X360 version of it (which I don't fucking care about) will probably get delayed.

Then someone would have interpreted it as preventitive damage control - they are not really sure they can win so they are keeping it hush-hush. It's better to control the message from day one. And of course they are condfident they can win - but that doesn't mean they will.

CDP didn't break the contract. They stated that on a Polish website- they said that the contract said that Namco Bandai has the exclusive right to release the PC version (and only the PC version, the "only" word was written in the contract). Namco also offered to release the X360 version, but CDP got another offer from THQ, which they chose.

What about the removal of DRM? Did they talk about it?

A direct quote from CDP:
Quote: | (...)We tried to settle this dispute peacefully. Our efforts were met with no effect, however, because our partner brought the case to court. The contract that we signed last year was applied only to the distribution of PC version of The Witcher 2- the contract was very specific on that matter, to make sure it was not ambiguous. Namco Bandai had the priority when we decided to choose the distributor for X360. They could do it, but Namco Bandai rejected our offer. In that situation we chose the offer which THQ proposed.
|
Next bit, about if the case will bring any loss in profit from PC version:
Quote: | Our financial situation is very good, that's why a loss of a few million zlotys will have no effect on our present activity. The freezing of our income only means that our partner will have to pay us the money with interest. We hope that the whole situation will resolve with a pre-trial agreement. If it doesn't come to that, I'm sure that we will win the case, and our partner will, in the end, pay for our lawyers. |

My limited experience of lawsuits has taught me little other than what parties may say to the media only infrequently intersects with that useful commodity, the facts.
Bandai may be using the DRM issue as an excuse to delay handing money over to CDP. Or, CDP may be forcing bandai to sue them so that they can play the 'helpless indie shop caught between two behemoths Bandai & THC' - in the hope they won't lose as much credibility with gamers.
The reason people sue each other is often completely different from the one given on the plaintiff's filing.
I dunno why anyone cares to tell the truth, witcher fans are caught in a catch 22 from where there is no escape. The better witcher games are the better they will sell and the more that they sell the greater pressure will be put on CDP by the capitalists who underwrite their shop's projects.
That pressure will be to make the games sell 'even more' by mainstreaming them and consoling em.
The only way to diminish that pressure would be to make a crappy game that won't sell well.
That would take the pressure off the developers but it would also mean Witcher #57 was crappy and worse prolly bankrupt the CDP shop making it impossible to make another game. Then the vultures circle and the 'creditors' many of whom will be the same parasites whose greed forced the developers to compromise standards which inevitably alienated their fans, swoop in for the kill.
The demand and get the rights to the Witcher name and the right to make any further versions. Witcher #57+1 includes an exercise feature for wii owners so they can step on and off monster bodies in time to derpmuzak and a special pink armour and sword outfit, so those young girls who don't suffer from morbid obesity will also become customers.
That will be after the script has been run past a selection of famous TV leaders of the xtian, abrahamic and confucian superstitions asked to 'vet' the script in exchange for a small (less than $100,000) donation to their favourite slush fund. This entitles Witcher #57+1 to a seal of approval enabling god bothering parents to buy the P.O.S. for their kids without risking their place in the line come armageddon.
Oh Happy Days are a'coming!

That's a whole lot of assumptions for someone who says these companies lie to cover up facts.

as i already said in the witcher 2 thread (did we really need an entire new thread for this?), i think this is good. i hate NB, and anything that fucks them over i totally support. its their fault the game was censored over here, so fuck em
hopefully for w3, which will no doubt be a huge tentpole game, im sure, cdp will go with a publisher that actually gives a fuck about gamers.

I also refuse to be negativist about this one. I cling to believe that TW3 (if we'll see such thing) will be at least in the likes of TW2; meaning, a great game on PC (despite some console "features" that mostly can be ignored).
