thats my biggest annoyance with browsers, the memory footprint...
so far IE is no diff from FF really, IE loads up its use per page, and can reach same as FF or as good as, but FF just goes oh u used this much it seems before im gonna load up 134 fucking mb on ur first start up incase u open a page. lol's
chrome was not much different by end of the days browsing..
where are all the nice bare bones browsers, all the fancy shit these days is getting too fancy and adding websites load up with every flash type interface you can think of.
ill await the "get more then 4gb ram" to come now..

So there are millions of dollar in this market and you think that the biggest companies in technology could do better but are lazy? The devs are still trying to squeeze the last drop of speed of everything included within browser. Sure, there might be ways to reduce some of the memory usage, by making the browser slow as fuck, but I would not want to have a slow browser just to have 60mb more ram....

Why do people moan about memory usage anyway? What you have these 4, 6, 8, 12 gigs in there for? To sit unused? Oh no, my browser is taking 300MB! Out of my free 4GB!!
If you had the option to have the browser use a larger memory footprint, but perform faster, or waste time on aggressive memory management, which would you prefer?
This extends to all software. "Oh no, my OS is holding a gig! I know it just sits here, but how date the OS actually use it to accelerate itself and program loading? I want it to sit there and do nothing! I did not buy these 12GB RAM sticks for them to get used!" Or my all time favorite, "Oh no, Vista DWM is using 4MB of my RAM!!!!111"

no sometimes i have a ton of tabs open when mmo gaming for info/quest related stuff/maps database stuff etc etc.. I just notice that it can add up for any mmo that has issue when you are zoning, rifting, teleporting anything of the sort, it can eat into the system ALOT..
ill let you get me some more ram btw seeing as its not an issue for you it seems..
getting back on track here, not everyone wants to stare at pointless flash tools or even use them, maybe using the view source and stripping it out would be more beneficial lol's
seriously im reading text, i dont want to buy anything, i dont want to know how to twitter my fucking shit via fancy links of the like etc.. where is the button that says, remove all crap but teh highlighted text you wish to read longterm here eh?
will have to start copying and pasting into notepad and closing the browser i guess..

So use AdBlock.
Oh wait, that one also required memory because it needs to load all the patterns, regular expressions and heuristics.

so having more memory is a valid excuse to do shitty code?
come on..
also, with groups people have tons significantly more tabs open
and constant usage and opening and closing fragment the memory footprint even further

I didn't say that, and they should optimize it as much as possible. But working with small memory footprint as primary concern and aggressive memory management is not without faults, and can in fact limit a design and cause slowdowns. Is that what you want in a 2011 browser?

Maybe Aurora is too risky, what if I start using Firefox Beta ? Can I install that on top of my normal Firefox installation and replace it ?
And does it have self-updating like normal Firefox ?

Aurora (Firefox 7.0a2) is installed separately, then copies the settings, bookmarks etc. from your existing firefox installation.
And yes, it does have self-updating.

Since it's basically pre-beta you MAY come upon bugs (which is the nature of pre-beta/beta-testing) but mostly it will be smooth sailing.
