Well, even streaming games wouldn't make much sense - it doesn't really give you any advantage, only complicates things. It would only make sense in terms of gaming if either you could play Xbox games without having an actual Xbox, or you could take advantage of the PC hardware in addition to the console - neither of which seem feasible at this point. Perhaps on a smaller scale: having an ability to use the keyboard or mouse for certain services, or the extra storage from PCs HDD...
Otherwise, expanding on the other currently provided services by adding the PC into the mix along with integrating them into Windows seems more likely. I am not even sure which specific detail sparked the rumour about the possibility of gaming. If it's those error strings found in W8 code, than it could be they just copied some general purpose code for some "Xbox Live"-like feature for Windows and didn't bother with changing it much yet.
The idea of the pc playing xbox games sounds beyond far fetched to me
but
its possible that they might run windows 8 (or a version of it) on the next xbox
which would be far more doable. Maybe something like a smart phone implementation
If they were to do something like this they could easily tie together the xbox, pc and windows phone into one seamless system.
Disregarding the feasibility of actually implementing such a feature the sake of discussion... I don't think having Xbox games playable on PC would outright kill the Xbox market, People who have their consoles will still be playing games on their consoles (because playing on PCs sucks! And it costs like 4000$!.. or simply because that is how they like it). People who already own decent PCs might reconsider buying an Xbox for the console games they want to play, that is true, but I think the reasoning for Microsoft in that case would be that such people are in a minority, compared to the possibility of additional revenue from PC gamers.
The Xbox console is "devalued" that way.
If MS really cared for revenue from the PC platform now they would have the #1 DD service (it's maybe their worst mistake in their entire history that they let Steam be #1 and GFWL is considered to be amongst the worst) and they would be about to release Age of Empires 6 and Flight Simulator 2012..
But they don't care about revenue from the PC, only about strengthening the Xbox brand.

I suppose you are right. But then if done via "Xbox on PC" way, they would be pushing Xbox games on PC gamers, increasing the number of their consumers by "simply" adding another platform to it. These would still be Xbox games they would be getting their money from. Xbox will be nearer to the end of its cycle by the time W8 gets released, making the value of the console itself less of an issue, I imagine.
Of course the entire idea is ridiculous, considering the amount of investment achieving something like that would require (if it was actually possible to do it in any practical sense), making this in no way a simple solution. Unless, I have a very wrong understanding about how Xbox hardware works.
So yeah, there are much easier ways to get "PC gaming" working for them.
CryEngine 3 already sort of supports this on PC, PS3, 360: in a way.
If the saves were to be made cross-platform compatible and they included cloud saving, then you could pick up whatever platform you want to continue your saved game.

I don't know what games use it, but that is what is shown in the XNA stuff in the video you posted. In addition to the XNA code which is compatible on all three platforms, they saved your state in the "cloud" so you can continue playing on the derpsole after playing on the derphone.
Gaming is only a small part of what they could do..
Looking at the way that the xbox has evolved over that last number of years im sure they would be looking at giving it an interface like the windows 8 UI and the possibility of extra peripherals so that users dont need to go to their pc to browse a forum or send of a quick email
With an xbox pc they control the hardware, software and the market and if a regular family have the option of running everything from one box (rather that a gaming console and a pc) at an affordable price it would make sense that microsoft would try and corner that market.
Looking at the windows 8 GUI preview, it looks a lot more like a tv interface than a pc one

I know what's shown in the video
But cloud saving isn't available to developers as far as I know.

Yeahp man, DX10, now I hear there's rumors on the internets that DX11 is coming in a patch.
360 has kept up pretty well with PCs I must say. Not so much in the memory but overall yep.

By evolved i dont mean in gaming - that has been going backward or ant least stagnant to match the xbox hardware since they got involved
but rather the likes of skype - netflix - facebook etc - all software upgrades
Gaming is a big market but by no means the only market that microsoft would like to control
Another indication is the joining together of xbox live and gaming for windows - everything under one roof
suppose they do this and have all 3 hardware items running the same interface and interoperability between all 3 (to a certain extent) then users of one or 2 of those (xbox and pc) may well be inclined to buy into a windows 8 phone rather than an iphone or and ipad. They could speed this up by allowing you by buying a game or app on one platform to run it or stream it to another for free or a minimal amount
Im sure if there is one thing that microsoft hates its apple and its products and the profits its making for them and they have to be looking at a way of countering or at least emulating their success of the apps store
The other big plus for microsoft and devs would be a unified dev toolset making the porting between the 3 platform as easy as possible.
The only people loosing out will be the customer in the long run as we have seen in gaming between xbox porting pc. It would also deal a blow to sony and nintendo, sony can only do 2 platforms and nintendo one.
Again if this was to happen - which way do you thing the ordinary family would buy into - multiple products from different companies or a unified set of products from one company

Of course it can be played, but it's a much inferior experience. Games are meant to be played on a console, gaming on a PC is an absurd and outdated concept... is what he is saying I imagine
Why would anyone wanna play a console game on pc, games are meant to be played on a console hence is why a lot of games arent released on pc anymore.
Newsflash more games than ever are released on PC.
