Oh man, you should of see the pre-fight press conferance they had. Constant shit talking.
http://www.boxing-pics.com/toney_workout/toney_workout.html
Check that interview out with Toney. Some harsh shit to say.
This is going to end in a stoppage or Ruiz is going to get killed. I see Ruiz trying his normal clinching, and his slugging uppercut, right cross, and jab combos. Hes going nowhere with that fighting Toney.
I see Ruiz telegraphing his punches and getting caught by Toneys right cross.

wtf .... I didn't realize Toney was a middleweight ... he looks like a monster. And how about that .. I thought this would be a pay-per-view rip off in Canada, but it's on TSN (Canadian ESPN) ... looking forward to the thrashing!

Looks like Toney is the favourite ... James Toney pays 1.45:1 and John Ruiz pays 2.4:1 ... I wouldn't bet on Ruiz, that's for sure.

The sad part is that eastside boxing site has Ruiz as the favor. I can see where their coming from but thats not possible. James Toney is too smart for Ruiz's clinching tactics to create another one of his boring 12 round sleepers. I swear to fuckin' god, everytime John Ruiz fights... he hugs for 12 rounds straight. Noone even orders the pay per view fights hes on anymore. And its finally come down to Toney to put this fag to rest.
If you take away Ruiz's formula for winning which is his clinch/jab combos, hes nothing. Hes also on a ego trip thinking he can beat Vitali Klitschko. When Ruiz fights, the audience falls asleep. See, he goes up to the fighter hugs them, backs up jabs, and hugs again. What the fuck is that?? Man I cannot wait to see this wannabe champion be put down saturday. Than we can get on with the real fighters and see a unification bout.

Wanna know how I knew Morales was gonna beat Pacquiao? Because hes the better fighter and style wise, Pacquiao couldnt touch him. I was right. See, the fans were too wrapped up in Barrera beating Morales to look at the whole situation. Thats how alot of boxing fans are today. Soon as your not on top anymore, they run ya to the ground.
Their logic is like this... if Boxer A beats boxer B than boxer B will lose to boxer C. Than they try to masqeurade that logic behind shooting out all these knowledgeable boxing facts.
Fact is... no matter what Boxer B can still beat boxer C while boxer C can still beat boxer A. Doesnt matter. Sure, I was one of the people who was on Barreras side for the fight, but I'm a huge Barrera fan.
The biggest insult that happened to Pacquiao in his fight with Morales as that Morales actually was not only ahead on points, but went into a style in the last few rounds that was his opponents. He switched to southpaw to beat Pacquiao. Thats the type of fighter Morales is. Hes got skill and heart. The win also shut the fans up and it also shut those stupid fuckin HBO announcers up. God I couldnt stand the commentary for that fight. Everything was Pacuiao this, and Pacuiao that.
Anyways, you can cancel that whole logic out the window when that comes to Ruiz. He has zero skill whatsoever. Imagine watching one guy hug the other in a fight for 3 mins a round straight, occassionally throwing in a few jabs. Add that up with the fact that it frustrates your opponent that he screws up and loses, and you've got yourself a fighter named John Ruiz.

Steroids anyone?

WBA champion's drug tests reportedly scrutinized
May 11, 2005
NEW YORK (AP) -- James Toney's reign as a heavyweight champion could be a brief one amid reports he tested positive for steroids after his WBA title fight with John Ruiz.
The New York State Athletic Commission declined comment, but Newsday and the Las Vegas Review-Journal quoted sources Wednesday as saying Toney tested positive for the steroid nandrolone after his April 30 win over Ruiz.
Athletic commission chairman Ron Scott Stevens said Wednesday he was ``not at liberty'' to report results of the drug test. Scott said, however, there was a possibility he could report later in the day to Fight Fax, which handles an official national list of suspensions for boxers.
Toney could not be reached for comment, and his promoter, Dan Goossen, did not return calls.
If Toney tested positive, he could be stripped of his title by the WBA. Under WBA regulations, the title would be given back to Ruiz.
Ruiz announced his retirement after losing a 12-round unanimous decision to Toney at Madison Square Garden, but on Monday said he was not going to retire after all and would fight again.
Toney became just the third former middleweight champion to win a piece of the heavyweight title when he won the decision over Ruiz. The 5-foot-9 Toney weighed 232 pounds for the fight.
Some states recently began testing fighters for steroids, mostly in title fights, but only one other fighter of note has tested positive. That was Fernando Vargas, who was fined $100,000 and suspended for nine months following his loss to Oscar De La Hoya in September 2002.
Unlike Toney, whose body was soft and had visible fat, Vargas was muscular and chiseled in his fight with De La Hoya.
Toney is one of four fighters who own various pieces of the heavyweight title. |
