Now we need to update the graphics engine and port it to Linux, which will likely happen within a week, or less, as history has proven a few times.
Shaders and such will be added and the engine will be upgraded for newer OS's, that should go without saying.
This holds quite a bit of promise as you will likely end up being able to run assets from other games utilizing this or earlier version of the engine.

The entire game is included, with all the assets and related data. Ready to use visual studio solutions.
So you're good to go to work on the game or start making your own.

Old news is old apparently, strange how nobody seemed to pay any attention to it.
Was the game really that bad

I dont remember the 2nd one being nearly as good as the first, but still a good game. Some of those Lithtech FPS games were really great!

The NOLF games were both absolutely amazing; they had great humour&dialogues, many original ideas and very entertaining gameplay...ah, the old times

I was simply addicted to NOLF 2 when I was a kid, just loved it. From what I remember I liked the second game a lot more than the first one, but both were good. I don't remember if I finished any of them though and I was thinking not long ago about playing them again. I haven't seen anything about the games being enhanced and it seems these are old news after all so I wonder, will we ever see something done about that?

Okay I decided to download it before I write what I was thinking it's happening here.. and my thoughts have been confirmed. No way this is an official release.
Consider the facts:
- Monolith (& their engine department Touchdown Entertainment) no longer have the rights to the game. http://www.nfohump.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=1502103#1502103 Warner has bought back the rights for the Fear franchise from Vivendi / Activision but they haven't done the same for Nolf.
- The release was first posted on the internet by someone who calls himself "nolf2liberator" but claims you can't get it from Touchdown's site because it's down. nolf2 "liberator"?? Really?
- Touchdown has stopped responding to their very own clients in 2009: http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:prw9bLFpvLoJ:www.projectorigincommunity.com/forum/showthread.php%3Ft%3D9404+touchdown+entertainment&cd=3
Quote: | Hello!
I am only posting my query here because I do not know of any other location to do so.
I work for a production house that is developing a project using a licensed version of Jupiter EX. The engine is a FANTASTIC solution for our needs and continually exceeds our clients expectations.
However.
We are no longer able to contact Touchdown Entertainment. Tech support and Sales emails have gone unanswered for months. Phone calls and voice mails either go unanswered or reach disconnected numbers.
What is the current status of Touchdown Entertainment or Monolith Productions, Inc?
More importantly, does anyone have current contact information for either company?
Thanks,
kbanks |
- Nowadays their site doesn't work at all (from wikipedia: As of February 2011, the Touchdown Entertainment website reverted to an 'Under Construction' state. As of March 1, 2011, the website appears to be a domain placeholder.)
- Conclusion: likely Touchdown has stopped its operation in 2009 or earlier, therefore they couldn't be in a position to release this.
- I think the release contains all the tools, source and assets.. It's very unlikely that nobody wouldn't notice it! And do you think the company's PR people wouldn't promote their "good deed"? And most importantly how could they release it if they don't have the rights to it anymore?!
- No site has covered this release. Period. The source of all this is one person in the entire world that calls himself "nolf2liberator".
- Nowhere in the files is there a message by Monolith / Touchdown about the GPL license, and this new release of the game, and what you can and cannot do with this.
- In fact the setup files are dated 2006 & 2007.. this release has been prepared years before this nolf2liberator guy uploaded it..
- In fact the setup installs "JUPITER TECHNOLOGY - PC Enterprise Edition - Build 69" with some samples and the NOLF2 source. That sounds awfully like what they would give to their CLIENTS that have licensed their engine (eg I think Valve says that people that license Source get the HL2 source code to play with)
Conclusion: the release either appeared briefly on their website due to a mistake and somebody was fast enough to copy it and label it as "GPL" or somebody who has access to an internal build (eg a client) decided to upload it for whatever reason (again after tagging it GPL).
The link to it should be deleted from this thread. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

The original NOLF was open sourced back in 2001.
This was posted on multiple open source sites, so it's not like it hasn't been covered.
