Just finished Old World Blues DLC, the storyline is quite uninteresting with mostly references to Dead Man's Hand and (I think) the original courier who will show up in the next and final DLC. And most of the quests are also uninteresting.
Difficulty is challenging though, much harder then the original game or the other DLC's.
I don't like comparing FO3 to Stalker, because one of them has intact buildings showing natural decay, while the other has buildings simply destroyed by bombs. I much prefere the Stalker approach.
As for the FNV setting: well, with the NCR, things supposed to progress. I also would have liked a more savage feel. A bit further out east, where the NCR has a much lower presence and struggle greatly to even keep that up. But IMO it's still a lot better than forcing FO themes into an area where it doesn't really belong that much (and even mucking up some of those elements, like making supermutants having straight backs, instead of being hulking hunchbacks).
Well the game takes place 204 years after the nuclear war, theres bound to be some rebuilding going on, add to that not only 5 warheads hit the mojave. instead of 55. In comparison Salt Lake City itself is hit with 13 warheads.
Be that as it may, I would never call Fallout 3 atmospheric, as it felt like an unbelieveable theme park to me.
But I suppose theres games for Fallout fans and then theres games for the next generation.
Also concerning Fallout 3, the FEV virus and super mutants doesn't make any sense as the virus never got that far from the Sierra Army base. Only one batch was made. And the enclave so far to the east?
But I suppose theres games for Fallout fans and then theres games for the next generation.
That's not fair. Just because some of us enjoy/prefer the atmosphere and style of FO3 over NV that doesn't give you the right to label us as derps ... which is exactly what is inferred with the "next generation" comment.

I'm sorry then, how would you have me describe it when the setting of the game doesn't make sense in the context of the established lore and what happened before it in the two previous games. Yet theres still people finding it enjoyable? carefree people? casual gamers?
Seeing as how you're just ignoring the parts that suit you, I'm not going to waste my time debating it.
No please debate it, honestly I can't understand it and it amazes me if people who have played the original two games and enjoyed those can find Fallout 3 to be a good game.
I really want to understand this.
I'm not trying to step on anyones toes or otherwise infuriate you.
I, and others, have already explained it. The atmosphere - in my opinion, which isn't fact it's preference - is better in FO3. I don't care about the lore, I'm not counting that whatsoever as I have already said NV is the better "game", but the atmosphere, the emotion, the exploration, the desolate post apocalyptic feeling, is much better in FO3 than NV. NV doesn't feel PA at all, it just feels like a western.
The canon, the story, the lore, the locations, all those may be pure Fallout in NV ... but it simply doesn't have the atmosphere of FO3. Music, visuals, feeling, hell even the humour and the area design. That's what I prefer. I spent 70hrs++ just exploring the wasteland (wasteland, not desert) and always felt that twinge of excitement when I came across some new derelict building, or a hidden cave. I felt none of that in NV :\
... but that's just my opinion and I'm not sitting here calling people derps for disagreeing. My enjoyment of the atmosphere in FO3 does, in no way, negatively reflect on my enjoyment of the first two FO titles. I'd understand your ire if I'd sat here and said "Fallout 2 is shite, Fallout 3 is so much better!"

I hate the game cause i keep getting raped by fire ants and i don't know where to go and i haven't leveled up and it takes me forever to kill them so i gave up.
sometimes holding onto nostalgia is not a good thing. predator was good movie in the 80s. still can be considered awesome because of nostalgia. but if you were to watch it now for the first time, you'll call it lame and derp (denying it will just be lol). the new predators movie was a o k, but because of nostalgia, the movie blew.
See, now calling Predator "lame" -- that's derp. Waldo, you should be ashamed of yourself
I experienced none of what you experienced sabin, I spent my time playing Fallout 3 being angry at it's, in my opinion, lack of coherence. For instance, blowing up megaton had no discernable consequence to me, my "father" simply said "son I am disappoint" so what I don't even care about what you think?! You were forced upon me from the start and then I was forced to run around looking for you to progress the story. And moira just relocated to underworld.
But I suppose it just comes down to taste then.
i never get idea behind whole atmosphere and exploration in fallout 3, half of f3 map is that big city in middle, which is practically blocked of and a maze, you follow a path and get screwed..
then there is map size, and new vegas size is like 3 times of f3 map
i dunno how long you have to play f3 to find that " atmosphere " that makes f3 so great, i never found it in my 3 attempts to play it, and last one ended in playing new vegas again
there is really no story to hang in f3, unless ur total fallout lore nerd, and i'm not,
so while i never completed more than probably 20% of fallout 3 , i never found anything compelling to hold me in game, even after spending 2 days to get various mods and make sure they are compatible, learning all those mini programs to create custom patches and stuff..

That's the difference then I didn't go into the game expecting Fallout that we know and love, I went into it expecting a post apocalyptic RPG set in the ruins - and surrounding areas - of Washington DC. It delivered. Story be damned, I wanted atmosphere! ^_^

Huh, what's Derp about Predator? It's a cool action flick and the Predator looks friggin awesome even today. Especially way better than those genetic failures from the AvP movies.

They shouldn't have named it Fallout 3 then, they should've named it anything else but.

Well, waldo also said that "The Thing" was a shit movie, so...
BTW Epsipoo, if I didn't play the original and FO2 (yet...) and enjoyed FO3 am I a derp or not?
I agree in not naming it FO3, same will apply to the newest XCOM.

Agreed. There's a LOT of games I feel that way about too, please don't misunderstand me on that. Derp Age 2 might not have been as bad if it was something else other than the direct sequel to a fantastic cRPG. Dungeon Siege 3 might not have been received so badly if it wasn't a direct sequel to two fantastic aRPGs. There's a LOT of games that are being sold on the name alone and they're not total shit as games .. but when sold as part of a series, they have certain expectations they have to live up.
Syndicate, XCOM and Shadowrun, I'm looking at you.

No, but bethesda shits in their desks.
If the begining of fallout 3 wasn't so drawn out, i'd restart the game and fix my shit. but as i recall now my save file has me in between some big fuckers with sniper guns and fire ants with big spiders.

The storyline and setting were intentionally a bit goofy but I liked how it tied up various questions from Dead Money and that it hinted at what will come.
(If you found those logs and computer terminals that is, not that the area is all too big and it's also pretty open and easily navigated so with some small exploration all 35 locations are uncovered pretty easily and a majority will be traversed between during the main story anyway.)
Some small bugs and oversights but pretty good overall, now to bring the conclusion to this story (Ulysses, initially cut content but restored via these DLC.) in Lonesome Road, should be quite interesting depending on how Obsidian chooses to proceed.
(The world map of The Divide as the area is called looked promising though, you can see it in certain map panels like the one in the weather test station.)
Signature/Avatar nuking: none (can be changed in your profile)
