I dunno, man, my passion with Star Wars and WoW game mechanics is pretty strong.

Getting the game after the official launch when everything is sorted and ironed out is the best way to go imo.

I have to say I find those prices pretty amusing.
At least, I will until enough people start paying them.

6-12 months is a safer bet - but you'll miss out on all the delusional hype-joy of being among the first to play.

Maybe they are looking for local partners to distribute the game.

I tought so, till one of the Bioware employees tried to douse the fires with this statement:
"To all of our fans outside of North America and Europe:
Today we've announced the pre-order details for the initial launch of Star Wars: The Old Republic, and as you may now know, we’ve taken the difficult but necessary decision to limit our initial launch supply for the game. BioWare and LucasArts are completely focused on building an exceptional game and an exceptional game service to go with it. We decided to constrain our launch capacity to ensure we deliver a great experience to every player.
Part of the reason this decision was made was because of the overwhelming demand for The Old Republic, and we're humbled by that level of excitement and anticipation. We fully intend to deliver to you an amazing game when we expand our service post-launch, but right now we cannot commit to any timeframe for when that may happen. As soon as we have more information about additional launches in more territories, we’ll let you know.
We are committed to delivering Star Wars: The Old Republic to BioWare and Star Wars fans around the world, and to growing a truly global community."
So yeah, seems EA/Bio is THAT dumb.

"Due to high demand and limited quantities of Star Wars™: The Old Republic™,
the pre-order process will be as follows:
1
Complete the order form below.
2
You will be sent an email confirming your pre-order request has been received.
3
Pre-order requests will be processed in the order they are received, while quantities last.
4
An email will be sent within 48 hours to let you know if your pre-order request was successful.
If your request is successful, your credit card will be charged for the pre-order. Your card will be charged for the price of the edition you ordered when the game is released. If you have questions, please see our pre-order FAQ."
I don't get this. "While quantities last"? It's a bloody digital distro game. Even if they run out of keys, they can generate more! Dumb-ass marketing move.

Seems only select countries can buy the game (even digital copies).
Aussies are ragin' the swtor forums like madmen.
Well, EA said origin is competition to steam, and swtor is the way to get it media attention. Well, they are about to get a truckload of bad press with they're latest move
To summarize, only US, Canada and SOME EU countries are able to pre-order the game. Well, im brazilian, but i understand if SA gets the shaft. But to miss the entire Asian market in a MMO launch is just stupid between any reason. |
I am also Brazilian and I have pre-ordered from GameStop. They sent the code and I registered my copy for early access. So, even if the physical product doesn't get here, I will be able to download the early access client and play it.

Well considering the game is supposed to have a strong campaign and narrative, I guess it's quite possible to play "solo"
Spoiler: |
As in, not multiplayer. Not Han

I amended. It has a story-based campaign, which I presume - like most MMOs - is quite possible to solo.

Nah there is no stricte single player campaign. Every class has its own storyline with story quests (something like Books in LOTRO). I believe you will be able to solo them tho ...
