They seem to put a way too huge emphasis on the audio... it just looks like WoW and a Star wars crossbreed to me :s

It could easily be a reskin for WoW, as far as gameplay goes. I sincerely hope it flops, but it won't, because it's the perfect game for those, who are burned out of WoW, but want a next experience, that is extremely familiar and just as easy as WoW.

I stopped playing WOW maybe 2 years ago, before all the changes, and I thought I hated it too. I then realised that it was the players I hated rather than the game. WOW was some of the most fun I've had in 'single player' running around doing quests etc. Its tremendous. It's when your enjoyment and experiences within the game become exclusively in the hands of other players is when it all starts to go wrong for me.

I'm looking forward to SWTOR. Maybe I'll get tired of it soon enough but the irony is that these MMO games tend to offer the best SP experience these days....

I do NOT like that, not for a second. I don't want another player deciding how my game turns out just because the computer rolled a random number for us.

I think there is an option to not participate in these dialogs, but winning the role is the only way to raise your "social" skill and there are a lot of good social gear loots. It's actually something I rather enjoy. Also, I noticed that during these flashpoint instances, if I personally make a "dark" or "light" decision, I get points for them, no matter who wins the roll. I.E., there decision does not have a lasting impact on my character, only the events of the current flashpoint and they are repeatable. Very cool system really IMHO.

Also worth noting, there is a new test build being released soon. The test servers are down right now, but the new build (including character wipe and having to re download the 35GB installation) are coming soon. Once we get the new build, at lot of big changes are supposed to occur. I'd say this is going to be a "late beta" build IMO. I expect the retail to hit late November. I don't see any way that it's ready yet unless this new build has a ton of new shit.

EDIT: I should also mention the "light" and "dark" options. Throughout missions, you will get to make choices that raise or lower your light or dark points. There are items out there that require "dark 1", "light 2" etc., so the choices you make have an impact on gear selection and also have a big impact on your companions. For instance, as a sith assassin, as long as I made evil choices, I gained favor with my companion. Apparently your companion gets better at crafting and doing "missions" (you send them out to do harvesting and crafting and such) the higher your favor is. In the upcoming build, there is supposed to be "neutral" gear as well, for those who don't want to play good or evil. Think of this game is kind of D&D like. You are either Lawful (republic) or Chaoitc (Sith empire) and then you can be good (light), evil (dark) or neutral.

Except for EVE-Online, Perpetuum Online, Planetside, and... just because you have played only derp-MMO's doesn't mean there are non-derp-MMO's out there.

And just cause you think one game is a derp MMO doesn't mean it's a derp MMO for them Razz anyway I played Wow for about 4 years on and off and got fed up. It's a wonderfull universe to play in but just not my cup of tea. Star Wars though that's another beast and I can't wait to get lost in there Razz

You cant change shit on any of the games you mentioned besides from re-coloring the map (so that your or the other faction holds certain key-positions) in PS or pushing prices for frozen pee in EvE up by .01 moneys (if your Organisation is strong enough to have influence on the frozen-pee market) .Wopidoo!
Playing a giant Excel-Sheet or a never ending FPS Map is one thing... "lasting impact" is something else Wink

But at least theosegames are not static. Wow for example, Stormwind will always be a Alliance city no matter how many times the hordes try to invade it. Arthas will always respawn no matter how many times you kill him. I know why things are that way, and I like to play wow for what it is. Just I wish someone would come up with a formula that did change the game some how over time. I recall Everquest 1 had seasons, and during the winter some lakes froze so you could cross. Just things like that would be great.

The wow formula works great, but it is starting getting old. Someone needs to evolve the mmorpg genre. I'm not sure how though. but I do not think TOR really pushes it, from what I've seen so far?

Again, there have been different games. Still are.

A tale in the desert is an outstanding game in my mind, but most people give fuck-all about an open world and crafting whatever you want.

The only MMO that really offered a wide open world (besides EVE, which is shitty in my mind because it is indeed like playing a spreadsheet) was pre-CU SWG. Outstanding game. Then SOE raped it with the combat upgrade, and then killed it with the NGE and literally lost approx. 200k subscribers in a time frame of 2-3 months.

The problem is that truly innovative games like ATITD or old SWG didn't really attract the huge numbers these companies want. (Well, SWG did, but SOE is so fucking retarded that they killed it off) They aren't made for average dimwhitted gamers. So a crafting/player sandbox MMO akin to ATITD but with WoW level production values will never exsist.

And people will buy this shitty MMO and continue the long running chain of button mashing MMO's.

I like star wars to, but this MMO won't be any different then the rest. In fact, it was built from the ground up *not* to be different. Star wars lore won't change that fact. They had a chance near the start of development to make something unique and special. A Pre-CU SWG but without all the issues that game had anyways, and more finely crafted content. They chose not to though, and the goal is to draw as many button mashing retards away from WoW as possible.

Meanwhile, the rest of us that enjoy stuff like ATITD are still waiting wide open on the consumer basketball court waiting for something. EA/Ubi/SOE/Blizzard will never give it to us though.

in eve.
hi sec amarr region will be amarr, no matter what players do. and so. (only a dev magic stick will change that)
in low with fw you can change map a bit for empires, but in a limited way, and in the border of devs limit.
0.0 is a sandbox, but is static. you can only change sov, but dont impact on anything bigger. (like you said stormwind -> gallente place.). you can consider 0.0 a huge bg, with slideshot and laggy battles, filled with bots.
even wow crap dont have that kind of botting and rtm. not at that level anyway.
in the current state, eve is the shitiest game from some time. cccp literally pissed on their gem, and their players. i hope we get at least supercap balance soon (and i have a supercap pilot in pl.)

perpetuum is a copy paste version of eve with robots. they started with the thoughts of pishing eve accounts and in the end they manage to really have a game. cheers to them o/. (dont know the state of the game, i played in beta only when was a pita.)
i dint play planetside.

I disagree with you on all points, but the fact is; even with your description of EVE, it still is more dynamic than both WoW and fucking SW:TOR. Who is your supercap pilot in PL, btw?

of course is more dynamic, because we have at least a sandbox in there where we can have an impact. and the fact that we can destroy almost all a player/corp/alliance have, along with griefing people out of the game for good, is worth more than all the other mmo combined. that is the sole reason i still play.

i was refering that the comparation in npc terms, stormwind will be alliance.
the same in eve, no matter what carebears/hisec/null sec pvpers do, amarr prime will be amarr. probably a bit of forced comparation.

and as for my pilot in pl, that will remain unkwown, if you dont mind. is inactive anyway for the time beign.

Yeah, someone needs to make a great other formulae game for those of us who grew tired of WoW-staleness..

A living, breathing, morphable world, but that will never be done for any of the cooler licenses like starwars, wh40k, lotr, dragonlance etc..

Only indie-like mmo's come up with it, and they usually lack the storyworld and writing..

(If I want to dig a mine HERE, I should be able to, or build a house THERE is what I want.. Or
raise a army of undead at THAT ruin... ME WANT! Without the grind plixx though.. Razz)
