So, 4 people with a background in art and no game design experience? They intend to release this in the next few months after 6 weeks of work, and also as a Smartphone game?
I smell quick indie cash-in with pretty visuals.
I'll be looking at their next game - and I'll see if they actually care about gameplay and other such trivial matters.
It doesn't take that long to create dungeon levels once you have all the art in place. If they've played the classics they know the basics of how it works, rest depends on their creativity.
I too am a bit worried that the character system and gameplay will be simplified for iDevices, but they've said they are still working on it and are open for suggestions. So if you want to see something more complex, go comment on their blog and give them the right ideas.

I can't give them the "right ideas". Either they're good game designers or they're not.
I'm not saying they're not, I'm just saying this game smells of a quick indie cash-in and it remains to be seen if I'm right.
Even if I'm right, there's the chance they intend to use the money they might gain from this to make a meaty game. Even so, that also remains to be seen.
All I'm saying is I - personally - need more than pretty screenshots to get excited about a game.
It's based on Dungeon Master by FTL, you don't need much more design than that.

And to think you didn't have an auto map function, and you'd have to draw it by hand in a paper.

I went out of my way to install a modded EoTB with automap today so I wouldn't have to get my graph paper out!
But as far as I remember EoTB was not so drawing friendly.
A couple months ago I bought graph paper, for no reason. Maybe it's a sign.

Legend of Grimrock is a fantasy game loaded with underground adventuring, tricky puzzles, combat and role-playing elements. In other words, it’s a dungeon crawl game.
Yes yes yes! One of the key elements to a proper DM remake is great artwork and this seems to have that area covered in spades! Looking forward to this. Glad to hear about it. Dungeon crawling is a lost art form of gaming. Oh, and manually mapping the dungeon on graph paper was very rewarding.
While Olli and Juho are churning out new monsters as fast as they can and Antti is working on puzzles and levels, I have been super busy with adding RPG elements for the last couple of days. Skill and talent systems are now in place and we have currently around 10 skills and 10 talents implemented (more to come!). You can customize each prisoner with a point buy system and talents are special (secret) abilities that can be learned by doing various things in the game. So, skills have levels and talents are cool on/off powers. Skills are usually class specific but there are some overlapping skills as well. Oh, and we have spells now and they look sweet . I should really do a gameplay video about them.
I'm eagerly awaiting this game, can't wait to see some gameplay. It's great seeing an old school crpg with these kinda grfx. I hope they do decided to release an editor, would love to see a EotB conversion.
