Alright, I'm a total noob here...
My X360 is flashed, but I don't have the newest dashboard yet, I have the one before that. I also have my DVD Drive key. What do I have to do to have the latest dashboard installed but still be able to play on Live and play burned games?

Well, you have to update to the newest dash, this wont flash it back.
I assume you had flashed it after the "flash it to stock update".
So just update to newest dash and reflash.
I did mine a couple of minutes ago, no probs here.
COD BO is booting again.

Actually *I* didn't flash it, the guy who sold me the Xbox did. How exactly do I flash it, do I have to open it or something?

Well yeah u have to open it up.
Download the tutorial first and read it, you also need some special tools.

No it wont.
It will be flashed to 02510c.
So you will need the Probe 3(or homemade)to retrieve it.
I would recommend flashing it back to stock first before the update.
You never know about flagging.

if the dashboard can check the drive firmware while updating to a new dash.. then its only a mather of time before they implant this check upon every console boot which means the end of drive flashing.

thats ok, i havent saved my key but i also havent put the last couple of major m$ updates on either so should be able to get the key ok before doing the updates

Was too lazy to flash back to stock. 
Phat Lite-On with 1.9 updated the dash with no error, flashed 1.91 with no problems.
Guess we'll see in November...

Its being a very boring 1.5 month I'm hoping we are not screwed up when games starts to flow and we are defeated by AP measures since PS3 is almost dead for now 360 is only hope

I know, right! To be fair those are Jasper models and some of them are modded -- modified case + neons + fans and such, witch on some models looks cool but I don't really care enough to pay 500€, witch imo, even with all that, is way to much.

Hi I am a total noob in the xbox hacking scene and I need your help.
For a while now I wanted to buy an xbox360 and now I can afford one.
My question: is there a preferred model I should buy if I want to hack it? (I know that a JTAG one is the best but for various reasons its out of the question for me), I am of course assuming there are different model's. Also the store I want to buy it from flashes it for me but is there anything else I need to do if I want to play a burned game? (I've heard that you need a special DVD burner in order to play xbox games).
EDIT: Are there any other points I should be mindful of regarding a hacked xbox360?

The R6T3 and yeah, make ABSOLUTELY certain it is removed/bridged BEFORE installing the latest dash.
