If you are providing 90% of the damage to the creeps in a lane you're a fucking noob, tbh.

Only played LoL for like 5 minutes but HoN and Dota are just as much about lane control as killing heroes especially early game. This is how it started and DotA has carried that with it as a natural aspect of the game. LoL has removed that aspect and made it more hero centric and thats fine I guess. But of course Dota 2 is going to have the aspects of Dota '1'.

Well my 2c if anyone cares after playing all 3 games (Dota for some years , lol for a year or a bit less now and HoN for a month)

From the 3 i like LoL more than it's competitors for the following reasons

1) I too find the denying mechanic daft even if it does provide an advantage.
2) The gfx in HoN are doing my head in. The amount of bloom is disgusting and it is often too difficult to understand your opponents from you since you all have the same color health bars. (if there is an option i missed then forgive my ignorance) . + i like the cartoonish gfx of dota and lol more than those badly designed (imo) champs of HoN
3) the shops : LoL has by far the cleaner and more intuitive shop although HoN's and Dota's feature of having stuff delivered to you by npcs or other players is a cool addition to keep your lane.
4) Map layout. Lol and Dota have a much cleaner map layout whereas HoN is kind of a mess.
5) Hero abilities. Well this is probably the only point i can give to hon since they have some very interesting stuff in there making champs way more fun to play than the other 2 games.
6)Noob friendliness : LoL is the best on this and if you think that it is not important you dont have a clue of how gaming world works. It's what makes or breaks games.
Finally allow me a loose comparison for the mmorpg fans out there like me Dota = Everquest , LoL= wow , HoN= Anarchy online or dunno at least thats how i have it in my mind
I really hope that Dota2 is a greeat mix of DotA and LoL so that i have new game to play Smile

You can remove the troll face. In most parts the communities of LoL and HoN are toxic. There's so much hate, bigotry and feeling of superiority that it's not fun anymore.
All that goes away as as soon as you have a decent amount of people to play with regularly.

I find it to be a good way to deny noobs some early farm, I mean, everyone can lasthit, the art is actually to get an early advantage which makes early game a lot more fun. Bad denying means the enemy can get shitload of potions early game with the courier.

2) The gfx in HoN are doing my head in. The amount of bloom is disgusting and it is often too difficult to understand your opponents from you since you all have the same color health bars. Healtbar colour for enemy team can be changed. Effects can be tuned down in the option also.

3) the shops : LoL has by far the cleaner and more intuitive shop although HoN's and Dota's feature of having stuff delivered to you by npcs or other players is a cool addition to keep your lane.

HoN has the same map as DotA, I dunno what you mean...

Anyway, most of these problems will go away after the first month. It was all too flashy for me too the first month, couldn't see what was happening in teamfights and the ramps/cliffs are a bit harder to see at first.

I love the matchmaking in HoN and the dedicated servers, a huge plus for me.

I didn't say i was doing that, but the importance of last hitting instead of actually damaging and pushing lanes is what makes the genre extremely stale, boring and counterintuitive.

After all the goal of the game(s) is destroying the enemy team nexus/whateverucallit with the help of your allied creeps and teammates, so it should be better to just push as hard as possible and damage as much as possible, to get closer and closer to their base.

Denying and last hitting just turns that into "lets watch the minions fight each other and try to deal as many killing blows as possible" for the very long and boring first 5-10 minutes of each game, interspersed with the little harass u can do with your low lvl champions.

This was beatifully removed in Demigod, where it's actually better to push since the very beginning of the game, you get gold for damagin a set % of damage received by enemy miinions. Too bad the game was marred with terrible conectivity issues and bugs, but gameplay-wise it's YEARS ahead of all these other dota clones. Heck even the community was ten times less flamey and childish. Sigh....

I don't see how taking away denying and last-hitting makes it more exciting as there is less to do, but whatever, everyone's entitled to an opinion I guess.

demigod is also not years ahead it's just different just like lol is different from hon.
just because you like it better doesn't mean it's just simply better.

I never played DOTA and haven't tried HoN, but I have played LoL for about a year now and I gotta say, I'd hate to see the others if LoL is noob friendly. The MOBA games are super hard core. I have a bunch of friends who played, but most just gave up because of the lack of instant gratification. I takes a long, long time to get good at the MOBA games, LoL included. I will admit, DOTA 2 has my interest though, but I'm curious to see what you get for the money. If it's F2P, that will be one thing, but I've heard it's not going to be (can't site source, so this is just what I heard). MOBA games are fun, but they do take a very long time to get the hang of.

And then, since you pushed up to their tower, you get raped six ways to sunday by the enemy jungler. gg.
There's a reason why, in LoL, you wanna keep the creeps in the middle between your and the enemy's tower. (At least for the intial laning phase).

I don't want to sound rude, but you clearly lack some knowledge concerning lane control.
Again, I don't want to be cocky or anything, but you are seriously missing something here. And I don't see how denying makes the game any boring, in fact it makes it more challenging Confused Those 5-10 minutes you despise are actually one of the most intense moments in a game..

I just hope they add a very clever tutorial in Dota2, and that the matchmaking system will allow begginers to enjoy their games and not get insulted by brainless ruiners. I don't know how they will do this, but something similar to the divisions in SC2 would work well imo, even if I think it'll just be some kind of points system.

Whatever.. so you will all just derail this thread into another LoL/HoN/DotA war flamefest. Niiiiiice !

Oh yes, the character list's picture that consolitis posted, with names added on it:

Trailer's looking good. I'm looking forward how this game will turn out. I'd like to get into this kind of game, and for being a newbie I just hope they'll add some nice tutorials and training opportunities, as well as in-game recommended skills and item build order that are actually useful and working, so I can avoid reading wikis just to play casually with a friend every now and then.

So yeah, hopefully they won't only cater to competitive scene, but also try to make learning this kind of game easier for newcomers. When we tried HoN once people yelled at us "OMFG read wiki before you play your hero!!!".

^ about that, there will be at least 3 mechanisms the product will have to help newcomers:

* skill-based matchmaking
* interactive guides
* coaching system
+ "entertaining way" to learn mechanisms

Quote:
Valve believes that the solution to the huge barrier to entry is threefold. The first, obvious solution is to have excellent skill-based matchmaking for both individuals and teams. Valve believes that the work going into Steamworks for Dota 2's release meets that requirement. Second, interactive guides will allow players to do more than just read a guide for their favorite hero that has been deemed helpful by the community at large. Valve plans to allow guide-makers to tie their work back into the game by doing things like highlighting suggested item purchases or displaying useful information during a match.

Finally, a coaching system is being deeply integrated into the game. By logging in as a coach, veteran players can do their part to help out newer folks. Valve hasn't entirely decided on the specifics of how newbies and coaches will be matched up, but once they're together a few things happen. The coach sees the pupil's screen, and gets private voice and chat channels to communicate with them. The coach probably won't be able to take control of anything directly (once again, the details are currently under discussion), but information is power in Dota 2 and having a mentor whispering in your ear can make all the difference in the world.

Quote:
"A full blown single-player campaign, that's not going to happen, at least with this product. Building an entertaining way for you to learn how some of the core concepts of the game work that's something that definitely will."

This will attract new gamers, plus the unchanged gameplay will attract all Dota1 players, so I can't see this game failing..
