Not sure if this qualifies as an official statement but here's a quote from the guy who started this mess on the eidos forums:

Region-locking plan UPDATE
We’re aware of some discussion regarding the planned region-locking of boxed PC versions of Deus Ex: Human Revolution, and after careful review we have decided not to implement this in the UK. Please note, this plan only related to PC boxed games, and not digital or console editions.

Funny, first he calls others stupid to call DE a RPG, then compares it himself to another RPG.
He must be from down at our console section, dont think anyone this stupid would be wandering around here... right...?

I feel sorry for those who cancelled their pre-order and now cannot order again the Augmented Edition.
Probably it was thanks to their cancellations that SE revised this.

Hopefully this doesn't upset anyone but just ordered the augmented PC edition off amazon uk for £24.97 Smile hot deal me thinks.

Stock is in and out all the time at the moment though so lots of F5s and a bit of luck required!

This was probably mentioned, but the game got a 94 from PC Gamer. They say it's quite amazing. Can't wait to check it out.

Steam: Release Date: 26 Aug 2011 ?
You'll get the game 3 days early, but will have to wait for steam to unlock it?

Steam://install/ usually helps but this is a large profile game so it'll likely get a pre-load this weekend and thus the above will just prompt the pre-load info thus requiring VPN tampering to get it to unlock.
(Yes I know Steam has to collaborate and agree to certain stores and all that but I still find it funny a digital release would have release date restrictions but I suppose there's a variety of reasons and the like behind it.)

You are quite likely to get banned, it's quite easy to see when people are rapidly bouncing from one region to another... just wait for the iso demo if you want to get your hands on it early I'd say

edit:

All is a speculation of course, dont take my word for it.. but I wouldn't personally do it.. I've got way too much money spent on Steam

I do it all the time actually, you just can not purchase anything (As that risks your entire account since Valve would lose money over it or something.) by doing this VPN thing, starting Steam and having it decrypt then just disconnecting the VPN once that starts (Doesn't have to be active while Steam works.) and use the Steam_Appid.txt file and launch the exe directly. Smile

I guess Steam CEG3 might perhaps go a bit further but for now this has worked all the time. Smile
(And it's very common with various articles and guides.)

So we can educate the derps that there are other gameplay modes and approaches towards a certain situation besides the trivial pew-pew action.

He'll just get a key from GMG, so he could actually just sell it on to someone. Doesn't even need to gift it to them, as far as I'm aware. Smile
