Yeah, why listen to people playing the MMO that has the best PvP-content of any game ever released when I want to PvP?

That game requires a specific taste and they are obviously not used to "normal" MMOGs. Especially since they're surprised that no loop drops in PvP (which is pretty common in most MMOs).

If there's no punishment for losing á la Diablo 2 or EVE-Online, then it's a PvP-game for weak ass rainbow-lickers. v0v

Eve online is so compleetely different that i have to agree with Bearish.

nothing beats PKing some random idiot, killing his horse, looting all his stuff, then butchering his corpse and looting his head for good measure, all the while he's standing right next to you as a powerless ghost and cries "OoOoOoOOoo".

Good times...you don't get stuff like that anymore nowadays. it's all way too casual friendly Sad

+1. Only MMO I ever liked to play, nothing like this crappy modern MMO genre.

true, true.
I respect CCP for not giving in to the casual friendly attitude of everyone else, unfortunately I don't enjoy the gameplay too much or I'd be all over it.

There is a russian browser mmo that has various types of attacks. The loser of the duel basically cannot play the game normally for up to 7 days. There is another one that makes the loser your slave and you get a certain % of his XP for a while. Smile

Mortal Online? I never actually played it as it was god awful on release (bugs/content issues) but its been a while and might be batter now! Oo, also, Darkfall? Same issues as above but its meant to be decent now.. not sure, never played that one.

It's not so far off i think.
Rift sold over 1 million times too, and it didn't got as much hyped as SWTOR gets.

Not really to be honest. I wish the combat was more like ME, but it's pretty much like WoW and not much has changed. The story and gameplay aren't bad, but I honestly had hoped for something new and refreshing, more action oriented like Age of Conan... oh well, it will still sell and do well, but it's certainly not revolutionary as I hoped it would be.

EA to constrain Old Republic supply

Quote:
The number of copies of Star Wars: The Old Republic available at launch will be deliberately limited in order to ensure the MMO gets off to a smooth start, publisher EA has claimed.

As reported by GameInformer, EA announced at Gamescom today that it will hold back both digital and physical copies of the game so that servers don't buckle under the pressure.

The EA rep explained it would rather make sure early adopters have a good experience with the game than open the flood gates and overload the system while it's still getting up to speed.

The exact cut-off point wasn't disclosed but the spokesperson added that as soon as the limit was hit, it will work as hard as possible expand its server capabilities and allow more players in.

EA still hasn't announced a firm release date for the BioWare-developed saga, though it's hoping to have it out before the end of the year.

There wont be such punishment, and you were silly to expect there would be. That's why I said don't listen to advice from eve online players because their perspective of the MMO world is skewed since EVE is so different.

Unless we have EA staff as moderator/admins.. Rolling Eyes

WAR was ruined by lazy devs who thought good ideas without enough testing and polishing are enough and EA hiring said devs then randomly deciding they waited enough and shoved out an unfinished product.

BTW, ignoring the setting, expect as much KotOR in SW:TOR as there was BG2 in DA2
