I've tried a lot of wireless mice, in the end they all suck for gaming compared to a good wired mouse. I never owned any mouse more expensive than 50 bucks though.

I have this wireless logitech MX-620 here.

The two batteries always hold like 8-10 month. And I'm quite satisfied with it. I'm not a hardcore FPS player though.

"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."

There are pretty good wireless mice, that work great for everyday use and even for gaming. Technically, they won't be able to compete with wired mice, but they are good enough, that for the most part, you won't see a difference.

I currently own the MX1100, which is a very good mouse, as far as I am concerned. It is very comfortable to use (more so, than MX518 or the G500 to me), looks nice and is quite functional for a non-gaming mouse.. even has a DPI switcher (although with only 2 presets). Charging it is also practically a non-issue.

The only obvious downside becomes apparent, with this mouse and with any other wireless mouse apparently, is when you try to make really small movements. Wireless mice tend to not register them, so you can get these slight jumps as you try to slowly move the cursor just a bit more. It can get a little annoying in fps games when you need to adjust your aim just a tiny bit more (especially when sniping), or when selecting smaller sized text and want to get that last comma in there, but instead skip right over it.

It's not as bad as it might sound. Once you get used to it, you will hardly notice it. I played plenty of shooters with this mouse, without ever actually getting frustrated or seriously annoyed by it. But it still feels like more of a struggle than you would have with a good wired mouse in these occasions. So I keep my G500 nearby for certain gaming sessions.

So overall, if you feel like you need a wireless mouse for something, there are certainly some good ones to choose from. Wired are still better in the end though, so if you don't need it to be mobile, there isn't much point in getting one. There are, however, mice that work both in wired and wireless modes, so that is something to consider as well.
