Ok, so now I've seen it.
I still think the KOTOR games are a lot better than the movies.
Yes, yes I'm back.
Somewhat.

I didn't think that highly of it.
KOTOR 1 had a far better story and most of the lightsaber fights were pathetic, except the final one. I enjoyed the force battle between the emperor and Yoda though. Nice to see his little green ass being handed to him.

Went to see it this afternoon...
Surprisingly enough, theater wasn't very crowded (I caught a 3:15 matinee, so it was cheaper as well.) The movie itself is awe-inspiring. Watching the numerous fighting scenes I was drooling. I'm sure that this is what Lucas always wanted the presentation style of the trilogies to be, but could not afford or make using the existing technology. The film had a healthy dose of humor, and if there ever was a part of the film that sucked, I did not notice it. The coherent, easy to follow, and interesting storyline that tied it together was a great example for other films to follow.
As with any cult film, Star Wars must be judged on two levels: the film as a piece of entertainment, and the film as a part of a saga. As with the other SW films, ROTS did not disappoint in the entertainment category. The saga part is slightly tainted though: everyone knew what was going to happen. It was, however, the way that would lead Anakin to the dark side, and a healthy dose of curiosity, that made me so hyped about the movie. The film was packed with events of great importance, events that doubtlessly defined the trilogy's fate.
The final chapter in this long saga is the most exciting. The third chapter of Star Wars is by far the darkest, and in my opinion the best conveyed.
As for the release, regardless of quality I do not recommend watching this on anything less than a good cinema screen, in full quality. It's the best $10 I've spent in a good while.

Yeah, i'm gonna go see it in the cinema too. I don't think it's fair to judge it from such a low quality workprint.

I'm not sure why he was picked to play Vader. There are far better actors out there who are actually capable of portraying evil.
Wearing yellow contacts and having your hood low does not make you evil.

Why then is he the single most crappy actor in the entire first trilogy? I mean, even the god damned swampling (what's his name? Jar-Jar) is acted better, and that's the most obnoxious thing in any movie, ever.
Look at Lee, scene-presence, great acting, wonderful despite the bad script... or even Samuel L. Jackson, that man is a more convincing Jedi/Star Wars-character, despite the fact that I can't look at the man without hearing "Ezekiel 25:17" in my head half the time.
And ofcourse the brilliant guy who plays Obi-wan, no complaints really, even managed to get the accent right for the most part.
McDiarmuid isn't that bad either, although when he turns into evil emperor, he looks more like some bad guy in an anti-smoking commercial (you know those that love showing the bad teeth). I'm more afraid of Yoda than of him when he goes prancing (or doing any physical scenes whatsoever, did you see his "fight" with Windu? He looks like he's about to shit his pants when he's fighting - hah!).
Emperor should be sitting down and letting other's do his fighting for him, that's his style.
Oh, by the way Hayden Christensen is an utter failure, almost as bad as Ben Affleck and that bloke (Tom Welling? or what is it) that plays Superman in Smallville (what a Richard Chamberlain that one is).
I thought the robot was more evil looking than Hayden, and what's with the pathetic "NOOO!" at the end? Is this the same Vader in episode IV? No, never.
Well done Lucas, you had three tries to do "something" out of the first trilogy, and you failed.
I shall never connect these three failures of movies with the ending trilogy, despite their few strengths.
Yes, yes I'm back.
Somewhat.

Yeah lol. I thought that's because he was physically overmatched. His force powers are supreme, but Mace was too strong for him. But really I thought that was probably the worst scene in the whole movie. The fight looks crap, the emperor moans like a bitch when mace beats him and those other jedi 'masters' who come in with windu are pathetic!
I loved his fight with yoda though.

Those actors, except Hayden, have had previous serious acting experience.
They worked with various directors.
They know how to act and when to act all they need is their queue.
Lucas, like many novice directors, fails in providing proper direction.
He tells them to be sad.
And they’ll be sad.
For an experienced actor like Sam Jackson it's easy to follow vague directions.
Same thing goes for other actors.
Hayden... is still a novice actor. He requires, what Lucas cannot give, proper direction.
Look at his, non star-wars, movies. His acting is a whole lot better in them. Why would his acting fluctuate per movie?
My theory; it's not Hayden’s fault it’s Lucas’s.

just trying to help the guy out,
ehe I watched it on me xbox with xbmc anyway, you've just got to change the pixel aspect ratio on that, no fix needed then, just increase the setting until the ar is perfect, somewhere around 1.65 gives the correct picture
btw the ar in the xvid release looks about spot on |
how do you do that "pixel aspect ratio" on xbmc ? |
when te movie is playing press the Y button, press down and a little camera icon is highlighted
then press A and you have a nice menu where you can adjust quite a few aspects of the movie playback

Everyone sucked in 1st (even Liam), most sucked in 2nd (exept Ewan and Oz of course ) and almost no one sucked in 3rd, good improvement...
About Hitman: Movie (2007)
Vin Diesel is a hardcore gamer, and absolutely loves the Hitman series. For that reason I have faith that he wont destroy the movie.
Response: Well, Uwe Boll probably loved the Alone in the Dark games.

I downloaded it since I knew I wouldn't like it, and I was right.
OK, I can understand how someone under the age of 16 can enjoy this crap, but what were everyone else thinking?
btw Hayden is awful!

Haven't seen the WP yet... i think i'm getting re-encoded version, anyways, the film redeemed my faith in the force, from my original trip as an 8yr old back in 77 untill yesterday... Nice to see the inside of the rebel cruiser again, hear Darth speak/breath under the mask, all the tie ups... was nice, sad but nice.
anyways, where was Lucas in the movie...anyone see him?

Remember though this is not the same Vadar you see 20 years down the road in star wars ep 4. This is a young vadar who still has emotions and feeling although they might be the wrong one's they are still feelings. I thought James Earl Jones voice was horrible though much worse then his previous Vadar work.

Hayden was actually a lot better than in the previous outings. It's still hammy, it's still completely over the top and lacking in depth. But you can't take away the fact that despite this it's a better, and more convincing, performance.
The film itself was alright. Nothing to get excited about however, and certainly not doing any justice to the franchise despite the hype suggesting otherwise.
It's functionary, it's better than Episode II, which in turn was better than Episode I - but other than a different plot it's pretty much the same old formula.
There is a lot to like, but equally there is a lot to despise.
At the end of the day though the film is utter tripe, whether you enjoy it or not depends on your view and enjoyment of Star Wars as a whole - and how forgiving you are for the direction he takes the films.
