Only Mel Gibson and his true performance shine in the movie. The other ones you mentioned are varying from decent to barely passable.

Thor - 5/10

Very disappointing. Badly directed, there was no depth of character (and the bad acting didn't help), the script was weak, cheesy and full of cliches, and not even the cgi managed to be as good as i hoped. :/

Max Payne - 0/10

I don't know what possessed me to try and watch this but this is the first movie in years that I simply turned off mid-way because I couldn't stand the PAYNE any longer.

Troll Hunter 2 / 10 - Terrible, terrible film. Norweigan filmmaking is apparently as bad as swedish. This "documentary" blair witch style is complete rubbish. I'm glad that serious filmmakers avoid it.

this is exactly Malick's problem. his "movies" work better as short movies.

not really
thin red line worked great as a feature film, so did badlands and days of heaven, but here there isn't much story tbh, it just captures life and that's about it, sure the usual Malick-esque whipsering is there but the narrative could have been tighter or something

Great surprise! The movie was incredibly solid and everyone in the cast was good. Add to that a superb direction and a compelling storyline and here we finally have a blockbuster movie done right.

The only movie i can see that actually working for is The Fountain. I loved it. I knew what I was going into. And yes. It was pretentious. To a lot it was a piece of shit.

But this movie is different. Malick is different. Sad Derps can't see difference.
However if i ever see a non-derp saying bullshit like a film is different than a movie and give exampled with malick and bay to define both, I will hunt them down and anally rape them!
