Thrustmaster has announced a new addition to its range of premium gaming wheels, the Ferrari F1 T500 Integral.

The wheel is aimed at hard core F1-sim racers, and is closely modelled on the actual steering wheel used in the Ferrari F1 cars; a feature which Thrustmaster hopes will make it the de-facto choice for use with the eagerly awaited F1 2011 game that launches later this year.

I'm sorry but.. LOL

Awesome wheel, but to use F1 2011 as its target for hardcore sim racers?

Unsurprisingly, the new racing wheel isn't cheap, though. There's no word on UK pricing yet, but anyone interested in purchasing the Ferrari F1 T500 Integral can expect to stump up around €599 (£517) for the privilege of owning one. However, for those who already own the T500 RS, Thrustmaster will be selling the Ferrari F1 steering wheel attachment separately for an RRP of €149 (£129).

So what’s new in F1 2011? The first thing you will notice is the handling. In F1 2010, after playing through a couple of races I got pretty much acquainted with how my car handles. But with F1 2011 this is not the case. You have to handle your car the way you would do in real life, accelerate too much while cornering and the back end of your car will spin. Admittedly, I had a pretty tough time when I started playing the game.

The car would work well in the straights, but when I am travelling through the slow and fast chicanes, the back end of the car will just lose grip, resulting in to unexpected crashes. Fortunately after a few tweaks here and there in the settings page, I got it right and was able to drive a fast, yet nervous car through the chicanes.

The other point to be noted in the game is the difficulty level. Even at medium difficulty the AI drivers will push you to the absolute limit.

Finally something similar to a proper physics engine in a Codemasters game? Too good to be true!

Nice! I wonder if you really need to obey all the 32,000 rules after SC is deployed.

Nah the whole SC procedure isn't that complicated, especially after the 2011 rules (maybe the fact that Pit stops are permitted could be tricky to implement with the AI, however it's nothing extremely difficult).
