Did they improve the framerate on SOTC? It looked good on PS2, but the instable framerate killed it for me...

I remember reading that they locked the frame rate at 30fps with 1080p resolution.

it's not a patch, the game itself is 3.55 on the bluray ! Amazingly there are still games releasing encrypted with 3.55 keys. Sony just made a mistake about this one (or are sitting on it for month but doubt it since the JAP rlz is 3.66) and now we can enjoy it

Shame ! ICO is in real 1080P, but SOTC is in upscaled 1080P, and looks all blurry and everything :/ Compare the logos of ICO & SOTC and you will understand what I mean

Comparison between PCSX2 and PS3 with those games will be nice when it will be out.

Get the latest Multiman if you havent, and try permission fixing with mm for the game.

PCSX2 is going to win hands down, mate. While the PS3 versions look good... it's painfully obvious that they're just upscales. ICO seems to have been done better than SotC, but both are just upscaled. With PCSX2 you don't upscale, you actually render in a higher internal resolution and that pisses all over any upscaling ability you can name.

in that case, there is no to much use for that release... because,as long you have decent PC you already got most of what it has to offer. it's mainly good for "backward Compatibility" for PS3 owners.

Actually, the other way around; it's good for NON-BC owners. These are PS2 games that are wrapped in an emulator for use on all machines, even those without BC, which only furthers my point about Sony deliberately removing the emulator from later model PS3s in order to sell "upscale" re-releases.
Sly Cooper Collection (three games)
Tomb Raider Collection (three games)
Resident Evil Collection (two games)
Metal Gear Solid Collection (two games + downloadable PS1 classic + PSP game)
God of War Collection (two games)
ICO and SotC Collection (two games)
Zone of the Enders Collection (two games)
That's SIXTEEN PS2 titles running on the PS3, when Sony originally "claimed" that the PS3 couldn't emulate the PS2 in software-mode only, which is why they "stopped work" on the PS2Emu after ripping out PS2 hardware in later models.

yes,its already been mention and I knew already about most PS3 models not having PS2 BC
I think I didn't said it well, what I did meant to say is that those "HD Packs" can be somewhat considered as a slightly backward Compatibility for the majority of PS3 models. at least for the PS2 greatest hits....

Mate, these games aren't emulated, they had been recompiled for PPC (PS3) and reprogrammed. Just like you would port a game from Windows to MacOS.
Specially if you compare with the Tomb Raider Trilogy, Tomb Raider Legend is a port from the PC/360 version, not PS2.

I find that impossible to believe, I'm afraid, so unless I see some evidence of that.. I'm going to stick to my original hypothesis. The packed data is exactly the same as the PS2, it's only the .self that's different - and that's to PS2, what WINE or Cedega is to Win32 apps. IMO.
Next you'll be telling me the PSP titles (such as MGS PW and God of War) have also been reprogrammed for the PS3
Hell, if I'm wrong.. then I'm wrong.. but I doubt it. I really doubt Sony would go to all the trouble to basically rewrite entire games when they could simply wrap them in the already-existing emulator much more easily. The emulator already exists, we know this for a fact, and it works too - the difference is that the old emulator present in <2.7 FWs is, well, old and not exactly perfect. Sony could have just as easily continued working on it for use with repackaged PS2 titles. Less work, more profit.

I found this,related article:
http://www.thesixthaxis.com/2011/06/30/sony-announces-psp-engine-for-ps3/
Quote: | You’ll remember news that Sony are planning to upscale and upgrade PSP games for the PS3 – well, that technology now has a name: PSP Engine.
The engine was announced by Sony’s Kentaro Suzuki at the GTMF (Game Tools and Middleware Forum) in Tokyo, and as such PSP Engine acts as middleware between the PS3 and a PSP game, offering the following features:
High resolution rendering
Dual Analog control
3DTV output
Ad-hoc Party functionality
Expansions to the PSP’s main memory and graphics memory
Unified save data
It sounds like an emulator of sorts to be honest, but could be great, and hopefully we’ll see a few high profile PSP games on the way now.
There’s no mention of Trophy support. |

I'll most likely get a PSVita once the launch price drops a bit and hopefully some hacks come out for it.

I don't have evidence sabin1981, it's just what I noticed. Have you played Tomb Raider Trilogy ? The asserts and datas are different than even PC/360 version, they compiled the game natively for PS3, that's for sure. Tomb Raider Anniversary on PS3 looks a lot better and has better lighting. But Tomb Raider Legend is the best version of all platforms and look like the 360 version but less plastic.
Also, GoW Origins doesn't use the same asserts as the PSP versions, that's for sure : the games are ~ 22GB (ok with like 10GB of videos though ) but still bigger. As well, ICO data files is 1.5GB, there is no way the PS2 version was so big, since it came on a 650MB CD.
Finally, even if some game had used the EXACT same data files, it doesn't mean anything : many (if not all) games on OSX share the exact same files as their windows counterpart, except the executable. Even though these PS2 ports look like they are just wrapped or whatever, they are still running NATIVE code. Emulation is when you use the original platform executable on another platform, which isn't the case for any of these games, and all are natively compiled for PS3.
Anyway, I don't want to upset you with silly debates, 'cuz I like you I was just exposing my feelings and why I'm thinking not like you about this. Now, about straight facts from Sony, I'm afraid nobody will have any. But honestly I'm not Sony fanboy (hell I hate them), but I don't think they are ripping off customers... Well they are recycling games, that's for sure, but these games needed resources to be ported to PS3, and programmers so, I'm fine that they sell it. And honestly, I'm glad they did port GoW 1 & 2, because these games are amazing on the PS3.

Some Mac games use Wine/CEDEGA (known as Cider) as a wrapper, but they are still using the Windows executables and DLL to run the game. In the cases of the PS2 ports, none of them are using PS2 self, so they aren't wrapped.
I think you are putting too much faith on this emulator, but personally from what I heard, what's left that works with the Cobra sucks ass : shitty compatibility, bugs, and frame rates issues. I don't know about what Sony is capable of, but I doubt they are capable of making a game like GoW 1 & GoW 2 run in 720p at 60fps on the PS3 with a simple piece of code that translates instructions.
BTW you forgot Beyond Good & Evil HD on your list
PS : you should definitely try the Tomb Raider Trilogy, specially Tomb Raider Anniversary because none of the versions I've played before were as nice, and it's one of my favorite TR game (the downside is it runs mostly at 30fps :/).
